lil weasel
Remove all Cracks, and Mods. Neither can be fixed here. Play the game with the Original DVD in the Drive. An Older post might hel How-to get GTA SAN ANDREAS to work on vista Brought to you by <<< NinethInsighT >>> :METHOD ONE: ------------ Assuming your using your (User Admin account) this method will not work with standard account you must Be a member of Admins and this does not refer to the main (Administer admin) Account. Right click on the game or program execute and click Properties Then choose Compatibility tab, At the bottom of the window you will see (Run this program as an administrator) tick this and press (OK) Then see if game will run. --------------------------------------------------------------------- If you still have a problem running your game or a problem with method one try the following method two Because UAC is so touchy and has loads of bugs still, allowing parental control may work better As this gives permissions directly and seems to be the only usable way to get UAC to accept the game. To get game running under a standard user account this should work for user Admin account as well: :METHOD TWO: 1: password all admin accounts just for security (not needed but advisable) 2: go to Control Panel\User Accounts\Manage Another Account\ At the bottom of the page where it says (Additional things you can do) click on (Set up Parental Controls) when UAC box appears click continue Then choose and click the account you wish to allow permissions for. 3: This windows heading says (Set up how (user) will use the computer), user being you, 4: Under windows Settings click on ( Games: control games by rating, content or title ) 5: New window heading appears ( Control which types of games (user) can play ) 6: Click on (Block or Allow specific games) 7: Here you will find your games listed, click ( always allow ) buttons for all the games you want to allow and then click OK. 8: also add the games execute to DEP see info below for Data Execution Prevention how to That’s it you should find your game will work with no problems, Once again if it will not run under these methods Your Operating system is messed up and permissions are locked down These methods work fine on a fresh install of vista or a fully maintained system DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE SAYING THAT GTA SAN ANDREAS DOES NOT WORK ON VISTA (THAT’S RUBBISH) They have no idea what they are talking about and are clueless concerning vista Believe me it will run no problem I’ve tested on two different machines vista ultimate VISTA is a good OS Words of wisdom: Don't disable UAC unless absolutely necessary and if you have to, reactivate when finished Installing and only do this if you know program is safe. Don't disable DEP ever; you can allow programs and games through DEP via Control Panel\System\Advanced System Settings\Performance settings tab\Data Execution Prevention tab Then choose (Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select) And simply add the programs or games you wish to allow To finish there is also another way if all else fails, activate the main Admin account (Administrator Admin )and install game on that account that will give you full permissions but you Will have to log on to that account to play, IMPORTANT do not use this account for anything else but Playing your game and I would not recommend playing online games on this account because protection Extremely limited to none a sure way to mess up your system ( You have been warned ) Once finished playing log into your own account. Hope this helps someone This has been brought to you by <<< NinethInsighT >>> alias pocketpc FREEDOM IS YOUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT This post has been edited by pocketpc on Aug

Zacthe_nerd
i'm having the same issues as this guy, except as a modder upgrading to the current version simply isn't and option for me. i've noticed that people running win 7 ultimate (like i was before the RC expired) have no problem running sa v1.0, however those of us running home premium have stability issues or cant run it at all. obviously ultimate has some legacy DLLs or something that just aren't present in other editions. if anyone could verify this or offer a fix i would just burst into tears of gratitude and probably cry. note: i'm reasonably sure it's not the crack that causes the crash because i've tried at least 3 different .exes. lil weasel
Zacthe_nerd : Remove your post. This is not your topic Post your specs in your own Topic. It is Rare that two people have the same computer with the same programs and add-ons installed. Only Clean Game installations can be helped here. NO Mods to Game... NO Cracks fixed here. When posting a problem, be sure to include the following information about your computer: Operating system (Windows users: be sure to mention if you have XP or Vista, and which Service Pack you have) Video/Graphics card type + graphics memory Processor RAM (random access memory) If you have installed mods, search or post a topic in the MODDING forum This may help to identify the problem. Ricco1962
Herr_P If you have the 64 bit version of W7HP (you don't state if it's 32 or 64) maybe this will help. I had XP x64 and now have Win 7 x64 and had problems runing GTA SA on both. I was able to get SA running on both because of this advice from NTAuthority. And here I'll paraphrase: GTA SA and with a lot of other older programs that have issues with the newer 64bit OS's. Try this to fix it/them: -open a Command Prompt (as Administrator if on Vista/Win7) then, type the following command: %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\ldr64.exe setwow and hit enter. That should be it. Now you may get a error that 'the system cannot find the path specified' (this happened to me with my Win 7) you will need to search for the 'ldr64.exe' file and if you have it use that path with \ldr64.exe setwow at the end of it in the command prompt. @ lil weasel: Quote: "It is Rare that two people have the same computer with the same programs and add-ons installed. I agree that talk about piracy and cracks is not acceptable here... but how can we not talk modding? That's what this site is all about isn't it?. Just look to the left and under each game name there is a 'Modding' link and even a whole category about modding called 'GTA Modding'. So, I'm sorry, but I just don't understand your position on modding. PS Sorry, forgot to mention that I am also an administrator account so that may help as well. lil weasel
... Note that this forum is only for unmodded copies of the game. For anything related to add-ons, tools or mods, please visit the modding forums.
Girish
We have separate forums for modding, so any talk about modding should strictly go in there. Also, I have Windows 7 HP 64-bit and San Andreas runs perfectly on it. So, this cannot be an OS specific issue.
Ricco1962
I am a 'forum' newb but I get it now. I was getting confused as seeing the 'modding' links on the left, gave me the impression that the whole site was essentially a modding forum and I find the distinction between the two areas to be 'graphically' vague. And no after reading these forums for about a year I did not really notice the top part that says: 'Modding questions belong in the modding forums!' NothingSpecial
GTA SA on Win 7 won't work if you install a mod, just like my daddy's laptop. I'd tried to install oblivion. It just crashes my GTA. So Win XP should be choice for gaming.
radioman
GTA SA on Win 7 won't work if you install a mod, just like my daddy's laptop. I'd tried to install oblivion. It just crashes my GTA. So Win XP should be choice for gaming. That statement about Windows 7 is false, as I have a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop and SA runs great on it-even with script mods and an .ipl mod in place.-And this is V2, the version that was supposedly more restrictive than V1. Like I always say, As long as you have and USE a legitiment copy of the game w/out any cracks, plus have decent specs, and little to no mods, you should have no problems running/playing the game. Just a heads up. SA, III, and VC also play great on Vista as well.
lil weasel
the only problem I had with Oblivion crashing was when I tried to install special drivers to run the GamePad with full capabilities. I removed the drivers and played using the basic Limited abilities of the GamePad and full keyboard with no problems.
