pbowler
Howdy, Here are the Specs Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64bit. 4 Gigs Ram AMD Turion 2 Ghz ATI HD 3200 Game Patched Drivers updated. Windows Event Log off, Superfetch Disabled. Here is the problem. no matter what settings I use I get SIGNIFICANT Mouse and keyboard lag. When I am in the Options Screen, there is a full scond delay between making a circle with my mouse and the cursorm moving in a circle. In game the keyboard lag is so bad that (when in a car) I push "S" for reverse and it's a full 2 secs before the reverse lights come on. The Keyboard lag is all the time If I change the processes Priority in Task Manager (GTA, GTA Launch, RGSC) I can get the mouse lag corrected in teh OPtions screen, and the keyboard Lag is significantly reduced... for about 5 mins. After that the GTA 4 Memory Black hole catches up with me and I'm back to 2 second lag, and mouse lag in the Options Screen. I have tried a handful of switches and I am still poking around dilligently but I wanted to see if anyone had a direct experience that worked. Obviously the main issue is my CPU/GPU combo which isn't going to change. The reason I am even persuing it is that I can get it playable for a few minutes before the memory leaks out. only command switch I'm currently using the the -avalaiblemem 2 (or how ever it's phrased, I'm at work so I don't have it handy, but it does what it is supposed to do). thoughts? Ryan
Obviously the main issue is my CPU/GPU combo which isn't going to change. And nor is the problem. It's obviously a laptop, and it's never going to run GTA IV properly. Best get used to the problem as there's no way to fix it. The game is far too powerful for your laptop to handle. If you want to play the game, I suggest you get a desktop that meets the minimum system requirements. Edited March 11, 2010 by Unlimited
pbowler
It's obviously a laptop, and it's never going to run GTA IV properly yes obviously but it does run "properly" enough for me for a few minutes. I can correct the problem temporarily and am asking if anyone has had similar issues they were able to fix on a more permanant basis. I understand very well that this is a specifically hungry application and that my specs are not up to snuff, however if I couldn't get it to run decent for a few minutes I woudln't have bothered I dropped a whole $20 on the game so I'm really just screwing around. I mentioned that I have poked around and I have seen plenty of people "saving up for a quad core", but that's not gonna happen with me. thanks P.S. Uh-Oh, Should I have posted this in the Troubleshooting section? Sorry! Edited March 11, 2010 by pbowler
pbowler
Sooo, membooster didn't do Much and neither did -memrestrict 314572800 gonna hunt around for the other -memrestrict settings. i still think it's at a playable frame rate (no idea what it's at, just seems ok) if the dang mouse/keyboard didn't lag
viometrix
please dont double post, use the edit button. as stated before your issue wont get any better short of an act of god. yes it runs fine shortly, till your laptop heats up. plus you are actually well below the needed system requirements, as a turion is not even a true athlon class processor. unless you spend 2- 5 thousand on a laptop, it just wont cut it, get a desktop. but i can see by your response to the last person that said this you will make every insane futile attempt to make it run better, which sadly just wont happen. face it, it just wont. drop your settings to low and turn off shadows is your best bet. pbowler
wow, you're an asshole. God forbid i should add new information in a thread, I've read plenty of threads here with plain old *bump* so your indignance about double posting is self serving crap. I assumed that this forum was a place people look for information now, and in the future and that my experience might be helpful to others even if i fail. your "2-5k" on a laptop sounds like when I used to have to buy weed from the morons that would sell "nickel bags" because it was too difficult for them to understand units of measure. You'll excuse me for not taking the previous posters "GTA IV > Ur laptop" as gospel, I thought I saw a bunch of posts with very techincal discussions about hardware performance and OS Processes etc. the "Get a desktop" replies are inane, and you didn't have to read my reply to figure out my intent, I put it tright there in my original thread. anyway I'm gonna poke around a bit more in hopes that the grown ups on this forum will be home from work soon. I have no illusions about this laptop (again, feel free to read my original post) but neither of you geniuses has said anything informational so I'll continue. Mouse/Keyboard lag on!!!! mkey82
If I change the processes Priority in Task Manager (GTA, GTA Launch, RGSC) I can get the mouse lag corrected in teh OPtions screen, and the keyboard Lag is significantly reduced... for about 5 mins. After that the GTA 4 Memory Black hole catches up Lag is not a "memory hole" problem, it's a CPU problem. After 5 minutes maxed out your CPU probably starts overheating so the system throttles it's speed down to reduce heat production. Laptops are not made for gaming, especially such CPU intensive games as GTAIV.
heat84
2 to 5000 dollars for a LapTop? 2000 dollars was the average price 10-15 years ago, but when did they ever cost 5000 dollars?

Blockhead? yes, I'll own that. but as for "not willing to listen to or face facts" where are the facts? Telling me it will "take an act of god" are not facts. and as for my reaction when I go to the Dr. Office, if I ever heard a doctor tell me "i can see...your going to make evert insane futile attempt" to get better but your wasting your time. i would tell him he's an asshole. Did you just post that I'm more arrogant than you? is that what that says? are you sure? did you read your post? viometrix
gee so youll listen to mkey82 about heat and its the explanation you were looking for, but in my first post i said the exact same thing. the fact is your processor and video card do not meet the minimums in anyways, the fact they are moblie versions makes them even worse. if you set everything to low you might get a semi playable framerate. but go to any sights like this: http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10296/ and let it test your system. then the cold hard facts from dedicated professionals will tell you. i am not here to argue with you, we are all trying to tell you we cant help you and its futile to try, you cant win a drag race in a yugo no matter what you do, you just cant. The price or the specs. if you go direct to alienware you can get a newer laptop with an I7 processor and better specs for the same or less. samsclub, bj's and costco seem to add a premium to computers. but at least you see a laptop specific to gaming still fetches a high price. I came here to avoid that kind of generalized calssification, to get specific information fro dedicated IT professionals such as yourself. I don't doubt your not here to argue, you seem more like you're hear to cast dispersions upon posters asking questions. yes I've read some of your other posts, you clearly know what you're talking about but come off as so annoyed that anyone would ask a question that it's hard to tell, HEY! you ARE and IT professional!!' and as for the yugo, it dpends what you are drag racing. Your generalized black and white Yes vs. No statements are not what I was after, sorry. I bet you have an RNC card in your wallet.
viometrix
lol i dont know what an rnc card is. and yes mkey got specific. but in this case we could give you all the detailed help and specifics in the world and the end result would be exactly the same, your computer would heat up and lag. sorry if you dont like my answers, but i treat end users like children, you give them the info they need to know only, dont add confusing details. you asked a question and i answered in the simplest form possible. would giving you the other info help you? NO. for it to help you would have to open the laptop and replace parts which in most cases is not possible and more expensive in labor then buying a new one. and part of the reason some of us get annoyed is we see and answer thousands of topics like this. when in reality we should ignore and close such topics since you obviously didnt read you dont meet minimum specs. as for the webpage i referred you too, it is better then us, it can quickly look inside your computer, we cant. and being youve read some of my previous posts and know i know my stuff, you must also have figured i am an A-hole too, which i am really just trying to answer your question and be pleaseant about it. but in the end man your system just wont cut it, im sorry. pbowler
I did a ton of research before posting an specifically chose this site to get actual info, not just a yes or no answer. so yes you are correct, I didn't like your answer. I understand the necessity to limit information to end users in your line of work. That's just not what I was after, I'm not your average end user either. I have a laptop. It has a slightly better than average vid card as far as laptops go. I replaced the CPU (l310) with the fastest one I figured the sytem could keep at operating temperature (TL-60). I saw GTA for $20 so I bought it, I saw there were LOTS of considerations with respect to getting this (arguably) poorly coded port to run on PC's so I figured I'd give it a whirl. that's my reasoning for wanting specific info. But I assume that you guys spend a lot more time answering "Will THIS laptop run GTA 4, what about THIS one"? Clearly kids who have convinced their parents they need a laptop for "school" and are now trying to convince them that they need an Alienware MX17 to run Excel... anyway, thanks for the input, looks like im stuck with mouse/keyboard lag and low textures. I am due for a new Desktop too, but I just don't have the time to game like I used to
viometrix
well if you need help with your new build i am happy to help you find the best parts at the best price within your budget. just PM me anytime. also if you ever feel like arguing/ debating im happy to anytime. you give a very engaging argument, and even though i may be "smarter" than you in some areas, your intellectual prowess and cool mannerisms make it very fun to have a difference of opinion, and we all learn from that. i wish you luck, and hope you do get a system that can handle this game smoothly, it really is a fun game online (just dont cheat except in freemode). pbowler
Thanks, I'll take you up on that. last time I built a Gaming System was a while ago: here is my sig from Overclockers Forum: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Abit KV8 MAX3 2x512 Meg Mushkin Lvl I DDR 3500 Maxtor 100 Gig SATA Radeon 9800 Pro 8 Thermaltake 480W PSU Windows XP Home SP2 FYI that motherboard crapped out on me, and the CPU may have gone too. The motherboard died a little ata time, and I don't have another 939 mobo laying around to test the CPU... You are a fantastic forum arguer, I love a good tussle and you stayed above board the whole time!!, well played.
