The Ultimate Graphic Fix

It's been quite a while since I bought the PC version of GTA 4, but I was never really been able to really enjoy the game fully because of permanent texture stuttering and a million other graphic problems (no road texture, plain buildings, fps issues, etc.) and I left the game in middle. However, I really wished I could fix those issues so I kept on searching the community periodically and wasted so many of my hours playing with commandlines and in-game graphic settings(and after trying a million pathes and fixes)...The game felt horrible without any change even after so much effort....

Then recently I found my ultimate fix!!! and thought It would be a good idea to share it with you people too...

To begin I would like to say that it did not come out of my mind...I read it somewhere quite a while ago and it just popped up in my head one day..I tried and achieved success....All you have to do is put a commandline.txt as following:

-height "xxxx"

-width "xxxX"

-refreshrate 0

The last line is the most crucial part and "the real fix". It sets your monitor's refreshrate to 0!...Now before trying I would like to say that this fix is quite dangerous cause the guy who first told me the fix(i read somewhere) said that not all monitors support that command! Since I already tried so many stuffs and was die hard willing to play gta4 the way it's meant to be played(and also that my monitor was 6 months old so I thought it would support) I took the risk and to my surprise it fixed literally EVERYTHING!!! No more popping trees and all other bullsh*t!!! I suggest you try it at your own risk and I do not know anything about this. Put your respective height and width in place of "xxxx".

It would be great if someone could tell how that command fixes everything and the risks therein...

And yeah I would like to say that though the command fixes stuttering completely...It does nothing to fps....

My specs:

Zotac 9600 gt (unoverclocked)

2gb ram(800 mhz)

Intel core 2 duo 2.86 ghz

Samsung 20" monitor

Ehm, how does this fix anything? I don't quite follow you... people should quit with the BS topics. It got old the first weeks GTAIV on PC got released.

All I am saying is just remove everything from the commandline and put:

-refreshrate 0

Even I do not know how it fixes everything... wow.gif ...I just tried it and got extremely unbelievable results(don't take it as a joke) so I thought others may also use it.... sigh.gif

Messing around with refresh rates that your screen may not support could damage it.

Yeah that's what I was talking about....But I was lucky it worked perfectly fine for me and now it's been 2 weeks since I did the tweak (and I play at stretch of 2 hours or so at once...)..and now I am able to play a legendary game the way it was meant to played... colgate.gif

It would be nice if some other people could also try and report the changes(if any)...

hmmm so it worked for you, now that means we should all risk our monitors? stop with the f*cking pseudo fixes, either meet the requirements or play something else. but most of all dont be an idiot and post info that could potentially damage a system that some noob may actually follow. sheesh whats wrong with all you wannabes? read my system specs.... see that, i dont need to do sh*t but crank up all the settings and play. thats how it should be, set to what your system can do, lower specs, lower settings.... below specs, dont play. Period.

oh and you cant read, because there is a whole thread dedicated to command lines and fixes made by experts... your faggy fix isnt in there BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUS. you dont know exactly what monitor everyone has, go away.

Sounds like a bunch of bull to me. You have a 9600GT, buy a new video card. That thing is ancient.

Does not work. And my game becomes unbelievably slow and I get 1fps

@Djmiikiili, his video card is quite up to the mark hence R* recommended a 8600gt.

you are wrong, an 8600gt is actually more powerful than a 9600

... No YOU are wrong. Youve got to be kidding me... a 8600 GT better than a 9600 GT??!! how!!!???

Specs- 8600GT:

core - 540

shader - 1180

memory - 1400

4320 MP/s

8640 MT/s

22.45 GB/s

Specs - 9600GT:

core - 650

shader - 1625

memory - 1800

10400 MP/s

20800 Mt/s

57.6 GB/s

Clearly the 9600GT has pretty much double the power of the 8600... double the pixel fill rate, double the texture fill rate, double the bandwidth. Not to mention the fab of both cores, ones a 80nm whilst the 9600 is a 55nm... this should mean for better overclocks as it runs cooler.

I have a 9600GT and all that I can say is that my game runs very well at high settings. smile.gif

It's all about knowing what settings do what and how much performance you want to sacrifice for good graphics. For example I don't care about the occasional pop-up of some objects or one or another flashing texture in a building if I can have HIGH textures, nice shadows, good water quality and a kinda crappy detail distance. tounge.gif

I also don't understand how an 8600GT can be better than a 9600GT, because when I bought my card, one of my friends had an 8600 and he couldn't run those games at higher settings than me, usually he ran most actual games (at the time) with lower settings. He had more RAM than me (4GB DDR2 vs 2GB DDR2) but his processor was weaker than mine, though.
