Call for Ideas: GTAV.NET

I have never liked Fixed Bars very much like PacketOVerload_x64Bit however when done well, like I'm sure you could do, they can be helpful. Unfortunately, however, they are often done badly and are irritating to say the least.

I like the forum being one colour, and while I have joined these forus late in my GTA playing career, (or pretty early considering I hope to have atleast 55 years left in me yet and I will probably be playing IV on my deathbed), it is good to see these forums evolving and being associated with a charity was an especially good idea.

One thing I would like to see would be a different poll on the main page more often - perhaps with a link to older polls, like the current location one, so you can still vote but have a new topic every so often.

The blue is probably significant, this IS one of the 3rd party sources R* lets into their insightful information loops before anything is published.

Also don't bother linking to a IRC channel on this one. No matter who you are, or how trivial the commentary, everything in there turns into bashing R* or other users. It actually sucks. Who wants to go sit in on a live session of lifeless internet trolls feeding off each others cynicism? If it was actually informative or productive, or even entertaining it'd be nice.

Sometime I frequent a fansite dedicated to the Metal Gear Solid series. It's a popular place, like this one. And a feature you could consider is allowing members to write articles about Grand Theft Auto. It works over there and they have some entertaining fan-created material.

What do you think?

I love the idea of adding user-submitted content to the site. smile.gif We tried it with San Andreas, but it didn't work out all too well -- probably poor execution on our part. (We did, however, get a number of colourful letters from Jack Thompson via the article submission system, which was interesting.) I was actually talking to Adam about re-introducing it for GTAV.NET, though.

To address some of the other stuff:

@crackdawg (re: IRC): I'll take that under advisement, and while we'll likely continue to link to the IRC channel from our main site, I don't think we'll be promoting it as heavily as we used to. I've sat in that channel for hours on end before, and I agree with what you're saying - it's a mixture of inactivity and trolling.

@LordDastardly (re: network bar): Adding a site-wide network bar is something I was considering, but I also agree that it can be bothersome and distracting for users who don't want it there. It's sitting in the "maybe" pile for now. smile.gif

@SirPsychoSexy (re: "good" ideas filtered out): How about giving users the ability to vote on ideas that are submitted? That'd put some control back in the hands of the masses, while retaining some editorial oversight for ourselves.

Keeping it optional is always another solution to the dudes who find it distracting, like me.

True. But I'm an "all or nothing" type. wink.gif If some are opposed and it's not a core feature, I'd rather focus on creating something that a majority of users can get behind.

On the looks of the site, I think something like this would be cool, with a gradient background, black where the content is, and the same blue on edges

Besides that, you could try to add a wiki, not as the whole site, but just like gtav.net/wiki, as a test thing to make sure it all goes well

I think you should have a section dedicated to the most popular GTA Next ideas each week and possibly a seperate section where people can develop their ideas by posting installments or chapters of their stories. This could be further expanded by people voting via a simple poll on which idea they like best.

I was just posting this!

Like you guys could feature one or two GTA NeXt topics per week in the site, and someone could keep an eye in the GTA V? section in the forums and pick up some quotes and post a bunch of 'em on the website each week.

PS: I guess the blue must mean somthing.......or does it?

I like the blue. Although the colour of each forum section could represent the game:

IV - Grey

VC - Pinks, Bright colours.etc.

III - Blue

SA - What colour really represents San. An.?

I'm not really sure about that^ because I think it is more professional when it sticks to one colour scheme - I think blue is great and this is just about the right shade of blue to! Too dark is difficult to see, too light isn't suited to GTA.

Not really helpful but I like GTA.net just the way it is really! biggrin.gif

Most of the colours we've gone with previously were tied to the "action" colours from Grand Theft Auto, or passive tones that we picked up on from early screenshots. (At least, I think that's what we did; I didn't jump on board with GTANet until just before San Andreas.) Red/orange was the colour of choice for SA.

GTA IV's design was heavily based around the cellphone. The design took forever to flesh out (thank god R* postponed the launch of the game, gave us some extra time to get the design done) and in hindsight I think we're all satisfied -- yet frustrated, to a certain degree -- with how it went. It was also the first time we opted for a fixed-width design, which I really do prefer over full width.

As for GTAV.NET being blue? We have our reasons, but we won't say why just yet. sleepy.gif

Guess who has some insider info? sigh.gif

Seriously, WHAT DO YOU KNOW?! biggrin.gif

BTW, I agree hiring PB would be a good idea... hmm, just noticed how Patrick Brown and Pedobear is PB in short happy.gif

huh? PB = punkbuster more than anything else

Playboy, Peanut Butter... there are a lot of common terms that have the PB initials. smile.gif

Anyway, back on topic: I'm still taking note of all these suggestions! Keep them coming.

A weekly photograph competition, perhaps? Or has that already been suggested?

Also, and it may seem silly, but when the first details/trailer are released I would love some selected reactions from fans. Just to really get the hype train rolling. When a new GTA emerges everything goes crazy, certain sites start lagging like hell because everyone wants the newest information.

I hope the site can capitalise on that.

Also an archive or hoaxes and fake news that turned out to be bullsh*t. Like when a certain pupilcation stated that you would be able to dig holes in San Andreas.

So people times come for some ideas for rockstar to think about and take a look at. I no there are a few posts on this sort of thing but i wanted mine to get heard and for people to reply with their views on my ideas. so hear we go

For gta V i would like

There are a few things i think from SA that should be brought back imo

for example

Gym (if you get muscle to top, you have to keep working out to keep it up)

tattos

Propety buying

hair cuts

car customisation

robbing houses

Different variety of mission not like gta iv seemed to be to similar every misson.

Creating a character from scratch like in saints row?

Download a picture of you in your gta charcther online or offline.

Make stuff like resturants more important like if you don't eat in a long time you get weak, can't run as fast, punch as hard.

Drug dealing missions?

A mix between fragile alliance mode from kane and lynch and spec ops mode from cod mw2.

Different missons could include

robbing houses, banks

Racing

survial mode, how many wave you can get through of enermys.

co-op is a must

I want free mode online to be more fun. be able to get drunk, play bowling, darts and pool with your friends.

-Car boots that can be used to store stuff (eg. dead bodys , guns, spare clothes, shovel )

Make a business up ( maybe that could be a misson or part of the story)

Manage that business if you don't get payed what your owed for example you can go and make people pay.

executions- grab people has human shields?

They are my ideas for now if you agree and like some of my ideas please make topics or comments saying so. The more people that say it the most likely it will happen. Feel free to add your ideas on this page, but your views on what i have said would be apperciated.

^This thread is for suggestions for GTANet's GTAV.net site rather than the game itself.

Moving this to the Network Suggestions forum, to reduce the chance of any further confusion.

Moved back. Miscommunication on the part of staff. We're still gathering ideas for GTAV.NET.

Thanks. smile.gif

That time came some weeks ago already, if you knew there were threads for these kind of posts, that's where you should've posted this and what makes you so special you need to be heard more than others?

May sound a bit boring, but I find it interesting: When we find out the location. What about a short section on the real life crime in the area? Like, to give people an idea of what to expect? Recently, someone started a topic about Elizabeta Torres being based on real-life drug baron Griselda Blanco and I thought it was incredibly cool to see the truth behind the fiction.

And this could put some factual evidence behind our speculation.

What do you think?

Has this place got its own YouTube channel? If not it could be a good idea to create one and have a page in which all trailers and teasers are collected. Problem is, would there be a way for users to submit videos to this YouTube channel, how does that work exactly? confused.gif

You could make a website that looks legit, with simple functionality. One that doesn't look like a pre-teen created.  happy.gif

This topic is for discussing idea's regarding gtav.net. Not for sh*tting on GTANet's websites. If you don't like them, don't use them.

I haven't even seen the websites, maybe you should assume less and ponder more.

Okay, I’ve got an idea for a competition that could spruce the site up. So read it and tell me what you think.

It’s not specific to GTA V but I feel captures the excitement about the series and allows people to really get involved.

Okay, how about we create a competition for the new site that involves people explaining why their town/city would be a great setting for Grand Theft Auto?

I’m not seriously suggesting that these ideas be included in the game, but I think it would be cool. So, we tell people to make their cases. And to do so perhaps post photographs of several of the landmarks we often see in a regular GTA.

So...

- Hospital.

- Police Station.

- Poor district.

- Wealthy district.

- Shops.

- Shopping malls.

- Graveyard.

- River/Lake/Ocean/Glacier(?).

- Any other little quirky things that would be cool to a gamer.

We could create a topic in the forum to help people discuss their ideas and progress and put the finished products on the actual site. What do you think? smile.gif
