Call for Ideas: GTAV.NET

Recommended Posts

For GTASanAndreas.net and GTA4.net, we've stuck to a pretty regular routine for creating our sites:

• Some of our more artistic staff members mock up a design.

• Our talented PHP developers (+1 frustrated ASP fellow) step in and do their codemonkey thing.

• And then we, the content guys (mostly Adam and co., I just fake it) come in and fill up the site with juicy information/guides/screenshots/bad puns.

In the months leading up to the official site launches, though, we typically spend our time compiling different theories around what we can expect to see in the next Grand Theft Auto installment.

Truth be told, these theories are really no different from what you guys come up with. wink.gif

So, with that said, we're going to try something new this year. smile.gif We want your suggestions! What type of stuff you want to see on GTAV.NET, both in the short term and for when GTA V comes out?

You can post your ideas/suggestions in this thread, hit us up on Twitter via @gtanet or you can drop an idea bombshell on our Facebook page. Whatever works for you!

Thanks,

Andy

I know it may seem a little abstract. But what if this site were to reach out to a famed GTA artist called Patrick Brown? He has already done artwork for another GTA site and if you guys were to get a hold of him it could make the site seem a little more vibrant and offbeat.

Again, just an idea. Not even sure if it's a good one.

I like the idea, it should be something different than the older sites. I'd like to see there rumors and stuff like that. Anyways, I'm looking forward to it. smile.gif

And Patrick Brown isn't a website designer. He may do some artwork if asked, but not the whole website design.

A fully animated background on the site would be sweet. For example; a bustling lively street scene with cars driving past, or an aimless view out into the ocean with the sun beating down on the waves. And the background should be different on every page to create some variety.

But to be honest, we really can't start to think of ideas now cos we don't even know anything about the game.

More hyperlinks to more pages (still on gtav.net, though), like Wikipedia. Like, a seperate page for every car, gun, character, like the GTA Wikia.

Some sort of small discussion section on every page, like on Wikia pages.

I wasn't suggesting he design the website. I'm sure he's a very busy man. Just help with some original artwork, with regards to character biographies and the like.

I think it would pep things up a lot.

Yeah, that would be great! A piece of artwork next to every character biography, good idea!

And yeah, Patrick Brown is great.

Yes im with Typhus let Patrick Brown design it he is very dedicated to the GTA community and would gladly do it in my opinion.

Quick question: Why is it blue?

I wonder. Indeed, why is it blue? moto_whistle.gif

Ssshh... don't give them any hints.

moto_whistle.gif Anyway, keep those ideas coming, folks!

Have a chart of the five best ideas. Decided after a forum vote.

Ideas revolving around gameplay, extra content or easter eggs rather than trite discussions about the location.

The great thing about location is that it's one of the more popular arguments when it comes to predicting upcoming GTA titles. Always has been, always will be. tounge.gif

Good idea with the chart, btw. I'll get one going after we start seeing more replies.

PS: I guess the blue must mean somthing.......or does it?

I like the blue. Although the colour of each forum section could represent the game:

IV - Grey

VC - Pinks, Bright colours.etc.

III - Blue

SA - What colour really represents San. An.?

I'm not really sure about that^ because I think it is more professional when it sticks to one colour scheme - I think blue is great and this is just about the right shade of blue to! Too dark is difficult to see, too light isn't suited to GTA.

Not really helpful but I like GTA.net just the way it is really! biggrin.gif

Most of the colours we've gone with previously were tied to the "action" colours from Grand Theft Auto, or passive tones that we picked up on from early screenshots. (At least, I think that's what we did; I didn't jump on board with GTANet until just before San Andreas.) Red/orange was the colour of choice for SA.

GTA IV's design was heavily based around the cellphone. The design took forever to flesh out (thank god R* postponed the launch of the game, gave us some extra time to get the design done) and in hindsight I think we're all satisfied -- yet frustrated, to a certain degree -- with how it went. It was also the first time we opted for a fixed-width design, which I really do prefer over full width.

As for GTAV.NET being blue? We have our reasons, but we won't say why just yet. sleepy.gif

I am seeing the "Fixed Information Area Bar" more and more on websites today. This is part of a content management system but you elite coders might be able to do it. I think a fixed bar for branding, information, quick links, content display would be a really neat feature.

You can find an example at this link RocketTheme "Akiraka" Tepmlate for Joomla
