What type of Antagonist for V?

Lizard_King

I found this to be tough decision, but I went for the Kingpin. I was tempted to go for the Shady Corperation but I then realised that it sounded a bit to similar to Ultor from Red Faction/Saints Row 2 for my liking.

I didn't have a corny dictatorship corporation in mind, just a realistic company that is corrupt and abusing their power, but are untouchable by the law or persecution. A bank like in the International, buying missiles and manipulating war across the globe, or a diamond company buying blood diamonds. Generally a realistic corporation that is corrupt but untouchable; in the public eye they are innocent and the victim. The justice system is bias toward them and they can't be persecuted or put to justice by conventional means. That's where you come in, all odds against you and you must take them down with fists and firearms with the police and media pursuing and crucifying you.

I want to see a criminal kingpin as the main antagonist. But someone who, like the player, started out small.

Someone who hides their intelligence and cunning behind a facade of foolishness. Like the Emperor Claudius. So when he becomes a threat you initially underestimate him.

I'd like to see a more realistic and organic crime story. Less criminal institutions. I really liked the plot to the John Holmes, Boogy Nights, Wonderland story. Your friends rob an arab drug dealer and you have to save your life by killing them. Something in that vein, more real, gritty.

I understand what you mean, I'm just saying that when Ultor popped into my head, it put me off. Not because of who Ultor are, just the fact that it doesn't fit with the tone of the game. IMO a shady corps belong in spy games, not GTA.

The protagonist's father/brother.

I went for other becausei'd like to see multiple antagonists.

The first is a cop. A straight cop, but he gets SH!T DONE. By any means necessary, even if it means playing off crooks against each other, planting evidence, extra judicial murdering, excessive force, jack bauer style interrogations, whatever. But towards tghe end of his life, internal affairs gets involved and he comes under investigation. IA approaches you to turn dog and give info to them, with bloody and chaotic consequences.

The second is a bent corporation. You do several jobs for them, in a chase for a briefcase, but you eventyually want to know whats in the box. You and your contacts start asking questions and people get killed. Lots of people.

The third is the city itself. towards the end of the game, you hasve so few allies and so many enemies that you're constantly looking over your shoulder. Even at the start fot eh game, street thugs are out for your wallet, druggies will want to kill you for looking at them sideways-its a jungle out there.

Im workin ona gta idea in my head featuring these, i'll post it soon.

An government agent would be cool as an antagonist this time. We are already familiar with gangster antagonists, crooked cop antagonists and even crooked military antagonists.

Let's say this agent have his own moral on which he tried to engage the player. At some point the player discovers that his own moral differs from the agents, and they become enemies.

I watched the International and it got me all pumped up. We could easily go against an evil bank trading arms or involved in some heinous crime. It would be fun to get entangled in a conspiracy, find leads, follow/interrogate important people, assassinate key people, etc. In a way a powerful corporation is scarier than just some cliche criminal who betrayed you because they have near unlimited funds, they are untouchable by the law, and will do anything or hire anyone to have you silenced.
