Sunrise Driver
what would you do if it turned out this game was really crappy? like bad plot, bad gameplay etc? what would you do? Unlikely. Very very unlikely After Mafia II gameplay failure I stopped to think like this. I also would go on besides Portal 2 wasn't my most wanted game even in april (not to mention in year). Mince
what would you do if it turned out this game was really crappy? like bad plot, bad gameplay etc? what would you do? I'd be a bit disappointed and move on. Not much I can do about it is there? On that subject, I did think it was a bit risky of Valve to do a full game sequel for Portal. The first seemed so well paced and just worked because it was so short, had it been longer it would have become tedious. That, and the fact that the story rapped itself up pretty well at the end of P1: Glados was dead and Chell was free. Everything seemed done and dusted. That's not to say I think 2 is going to be sh*t, quite the opposite. All the little things like trailers, gameplay and those little investment videos make me think Valve's still got the writing down and can make a full game experience out of the best short game I've ever played. Yeah I can see what you mean. And to me it seems Valve just likes expanding on things a lot, whether it be the L4D sequel in a year (which I did enjoy), all the new stuff on TF2 (which I never got due to being on Xbox), and now another Portal game? I'm sure it's going to be good, they've probably put a lot of time into developing it. I don't think this is a "this is a cool concept, let's cash in on it" sequel, but a fully made and carefully crafted game. If anything I'm just worried about the co-op, I hope it's going to be as good as it sounds.
Minic
Is portal 2 a digital only game or can you buy it in the stores regularly? It has both, just if you get it through Steam you don't have to wait for the street date in Europe and you'll get it the same day as America gets it, which is pretty boss. @Street Mix: That may have been the case with Mafia II, but this is a game being made by VALVe, who have a very good reputation of making fantastic stories for games (Half-Life 2 is the best example) as well as having stellar gameplay. Plus they've most likely been making this since around 2007, or at least shortly after they realised that Portal was a huge success.
[SM]CJZera
Now, the hunt for a co-op partner begins... Anyone else is having something on the way and therefore wants to do the coop on the 23rd-24th? Because, as already stated, I was blessed with suck and now I have a couple days out of town during release... Damn, I hate my luck...
Fnorg
The game will still be here when you come back. You do know that, right? Enjoy the world, or whatever. I've got a whole seven days off coming up next week and I'm gonna take it nice and slow with Portal 2.
[SM]CJZera
I wouldn't mind going out, but really, I wanted to play coop with someone who doesn't know every single puzzle by heart like I know will be like when I get back... Oh well, I guess I'll try to survive...
Robinski
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I know they've really been plugging co-op, but single player is definitely where it's at for me. I don't plan on doing any co-op until about July. I don't have anyone added on XBL who'll be playing it, well nobody who I know IRL at least. I'm just gonna hold out until I move in with two people in the summer, and I know at least one of them'll be game for some couch-side co op. I understand not wanting to do it with anyone who's done the puzzles before though; playing through P1 just isn't the same after you've figured out not only the sanctioned way to play the game but the time saving exploits too. dice
Sorry, but is it just me or is that male voice from the trailers really, and I mean really annoying. Are there any pre-order bonuses involved (except Portal, which I already have), else I'll pirate the game, just to see if that voice appears in the game, because I'm really not planning on buying it just to listen to it the whole game. It just doesn't fit into the whole Aperture science thing, sounding very unprofessional, kinda caricatural and just repels me from watching trailers. Glados was perfect and I was expecting more of the same, but this is a turnaround. And the trailers are also kinda lame, the humor isn't the same as the one before. They're trying to much and endind out being kinda childish with their humor, which I really dislike.
CharmingCharlie
You must be a PC gamer. Yeah because console gamers never bitch and bitch and never shut up do they ? Oh wait yes they do, if you need an example then just look at the bitching and moaning PS3 users STILL do about the Orange box on the PS3. Yep that's right they are still bitching about it FOUR YEARS LATER. If a product is bad or does not meet expectations then it is irrelevant what platform you own/prefer people will complain about it. However it seems these days as if we are not "allowed" to complain about being sold shoddy sh*t judging by some of the responses in here. Anyway you can rest assured I won't be complaining about Portal 2 on the PC it isn't my cup of tea so I am steering clear of it.

As far as I know, Cave Johnson, head of AS and voice of the Investment Opportunity videos, does feature in the game to some extent, but I'm pretty sure that Glados will be the main character other than Chell (who isn't much of a character to be fair). Remember that Aperture Science was pretty much killed off even before Portal, so I don't think you'll be interacting with Cave too much, it'll most likely be through audio diary entries or something like that. Also, don't pirate the game, dumbass.

You don't need to defend PC gaming, I pity anyone who plays this game on a console. If you don't like the game and/or valve, why post? Is the steam version out the same time in Europe as the US? According to Dom (minic) it is.

I did not defend PC gaming, I most certainly do not "pity" those that want to play the game on the console. If they are happy to do that then I have no problem with that as long as they don't expect me too. I merely stated that regardless of platform ownership/preference if people are sold a product they do not like or it does not live up to the expectations that were created they will complain. It is not something "special" to PC gamers as papanesta seems to suggest. As for why I posted, I saw the comment and wanted to respond to it. I didn't realise that you are only allowed to post in topics if you are drooling at the jowls for the game. I certainly said nothing bad about Valve or Portal 2. I merely commented it isn't my cup of tea, that doesn't mean I am saying the game is "bad" I am saying it doesn't interest me.

Minic
Is the steam version out the same time in Europe as the US? According to Dom (minic) it is. Well it's out on the 19th in America and it says the 19th on the EU store for Steam so i'm figuring it will be, i told you this and you even checked. About Cave Johnson, I have heard he'll just be an AI voice (which someone mentioned I think) featured throughout the game, which I think will be pretty cool, plus it'd suck to get J.K Simmons to do his voice only for the adverts. FullMetal
PS3 gamers have a good looking STEAM overlay. They are truly blessed unlike the Xbox360 users to be fair. Nevver thought I'd say this but I'm looking forward to this game more and more. At first I was just interested in playing it (because portal 1 was a damn lot of fun, especially for the 'price' and it just looks awesome). But with these new trailers and promotional videos I'm pretty much hyped/stoked for it.

Ash_735
Still looking forward to this, already have it pre-loaded on my PC and can't wait to check out the PS3 version, brilliant how PS3 players will be able to join PC and MAC players. I've been hearing a lot of bitching from Xbox 360 owners though saying they're just going to rent the game instead and not support Valve for doing an inferior game on the Xbox.
