kudoboi
So I finally got my hands on my Portal 2. Having played the Half-Life games and have never even touched Portal 1, I had no idea what to expect. Well this game just blew my mind. Portals are so damn fun! There are some puzzles that are quite difficult but fun nonetheless. Co-Op is more fun than Single-Player. Reached Chapter 7 in single player. Wheatley is my favourite character, I wish I had him as my doorstep. But I was pissed when he turned into the game's big ol villian. And GLADoS on a potato? Brilliant. Also, what the f*ck is a RatMan? if u played gta 4 u would knw wht is ratman, anyway ratman is smthing lyk a hobo who is alittle crazy etc
Robinski
Yeah every character that goes by the name of Ratman is the same one, especially the one in Portal and the one not in GTA4. The Portal Ratman is someone who is or was in the same Aperture science facility after Glados took over. In the first game, when you are still in the pristine, sterile test chambers you'll occasionally come across a loose wall panel or something behind which were some of the guy's dens. Covered in graffiti, blood and scavenged supplies it was implied that the Ratman was going a bit bonkers, but his ramblings were usually on the money. The notorious example being the line "The cake is a lie" which was scrawled all over one particular den. Anyway, with Portal 2's release, Valve put out a comic that shows much more involvement of the Ratman in Chell's activities in P1. Turns out he was still in the facility and actively watching and helping Chell out. He is pretty much presumed dead by the time of Portal 2 though, with so much time having past and there only being enough power to run one stasis pod. That said, some of his dens can still be found in P2, with some rather interesting clues that will only make sense once you've completed the game, [MAJOR ENDING SPOILER] like numerous drawings of the phases of the moon that crop up once or twice. Ash_735
Is it worth to play trough Portal 2 more than one time? Yes, simply because you pick up on clues and references to later parts of the game in much earlier places.

mrpain
THAT WAS AN AWESOME ENDING! Sorry had to get that out. But seriously, the ending is the best I’ve ever experienced in a video game. I was like “SPAAAAAAACEEE!!!” when that crazy sh*t happened. Portal in the moon? Who would have ever expected that?!? And the story, god don’t even get me started on the story. Not any other game, not even my favorite games of all time such as Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2, could come close to the pure perfection of the story. The writing and dialogue is bloody brilliant! There’s a lot of backstory in this game and the game doesn’t forced it onto you. Chell is adopted? GLADoS is based on Caroline? The plot is brilliantly carried out. Also did anyone notice that one of the potatoes experiments at the ‘Bring Your Daughter To Work Day’ place belonged to Chell? Nicely hidden, right? And what’s a good story with good characters? You know my main point of buying this game was to see what all the big fuzz is over GLADoS. She’s entertaining with her sarcastic wit but Wheatley tops the cake. Wheatley is now my favorite gaming character of all time. Love his British accent, I really would like to have him as my table lamp. He’s a trustworthy sidekick and a formidable foe. I felt like crying when I saw how apologetic he was at the end. Sucks to be in space for him. And I wish Chell wasn’t a dangerous mute lunatic. I would love to hear her say something atleast to get an inside scoop on her feelings on the situation. Anyway, back to the ending. Anyone else felt like running through that beautiful field? And love that opera song, surprised that the voice actor of GLADoS was the one singing. Overall, I really enjoyed the game even though I never even touch the first Portal before but there’s no replaybility at all unless you count speed-running as fun. The ending is really awesome but that probably means that there won’t be a Portal 3. Which sucks. Now off to co-op. HUGE NOTE CONCERNING ABOUT RATMAN Anyone notice he was in the background in the ending during the turret song? Lastly, since I’m new to the Portal franchise, why can portals are only placed on white surfaces?
Inky
HUGE NOTE CONCERNING ABOUT RATMANAnyone notice he was in the background in the ending during the turret song? Lastly, since I’m new to the Portal franchise, why can portals are only placed on white surfaces? When abouts during the song? I've been watching and I can't see him anywhere. Also the reason you can only place portals on certain surfaces is because if you could place portals on every surface the game would be considerably easier On that topic though, I remember something about moon dust, or moon rocks when you're in ye olde Aperture. Does that have anything to do with the white gel you can place portals on?

I was like “SPAAAAAAACEEE!!!” when that crazy sh*t happened. Portal in the moon? Who would have ever expected that?!? This is one of the things revealed earlier in the game when Cave Johnson gives his speech about how he became ill, he revealed that the white gel and surfaces were made by by crushing LUNAR ROCKS, which after the first one botched, made him ill and eventually killed him, so really, Cave Johnson's last major contribution was the creation of the Portal Gun, after that he started the A.I. project but died before it was finished. So yeah, thought that was a really cool explanation as to why the gun only works on those white surfaces and links in with the ending.
d0mm2k8
About Portal 3; why do people want Valve to create sequels so badly? With Half-Life 3 I can understand, but people are crying for Portal 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 when there is no need. Seen Team Fortress 2 and its constant stream of free updates and content? That's essentially what Valve want to do with L4D2 and Portal 2 - they want their games to be more of a service than a product. Now I understand the want for a sequel for some great games however I would much prefer more frequent (albeit smaller), free updates than dishing out £30 for a new game every few years. @Ash_735: The 'Portal Gun' had being around since at least the 1940-50s Aperture Labs since the test-subjects had to solve tests using one and there was a poster of the much larger 50s version on the side of the earliest Enrichment Sphere. Robinski
Cave Johnson says something about the moondust being an especially good conductor for portals, I think, and that's why it was used to create the white gel. A lot of people say that everything that is portalable must be painted with moon-paint but that's not necessarily true. Cave never says that moondust is the only portalable surface, just good for it. There's also the fact that the walls from the condemned sections from the period before the portal conducive properties of moondust were discovered shouldn't be portalable at all. If you were going to try and explain why portals only go on white-ish surfaces with some science I bet it'd be something to do with white surfaces reflecting the whole spectrum of light. papanesta
GLADoS is based on Caroline? Not based on, I don't think. If the theories are anything to go by Caroline (or her brain functions at least) was/is GLADoS.
Mati
Another question: Can I still play with PC/PS3 users on my X360 without a gold subscription?
Ash_735
Another question: Can I still play with PC/PS3 users on my X360 without a gold subscription? No, Microsoft won't allow Steam on the Xbox 360, so Xbox 360 owners can only play over Xbox Live with other Xbox players.
