red07g5
My computer is over the minimum requirements to run this game, why is it giving me such headaches? According to the box, I need... amd athlon x2 64 2.4 ghz 1 gb memory and nvidia 7900 256mb well I'm running Amd athlon x2 64 2.8 ghz clocked to about 3ghz 4 gb of memory and 2 nvidia 8800gts 320mb in sli The box also says this game is enhanced for 64-bit and multi-core, Well I'm running XP-Pro 64-bit and I have a dual core processor. I'm obviously not seriously over spec like I would like to be, but I'm still over spec a little, so why does this game run like crap? My game (hardly) ran at first, and I couldn't play multiplayer, which I really didn't care about. I was running 1024x768 with low everything and ~25 for all the distance and density settings. Then the game started stuttering after a couple of minutes so horribly that it locked up my computer so I went down to 800x600 and low everything and ~20 for density and distance. Then the game started stuttering on startup, playing the theme music over and over where I could never even see the main menu, so I overclocked (which I have never done before and don't like to do) and my system is stable at 8%oc using asus AI. The game worked like one time then started the stuttering during the main theme music again and I figured out I could start the game in offline mode which worked like 2 or 3 times. Now I'm using AMD fusion utility to completely shut everything off except for this damn game and its doing the same thing over again. Why, Why, WHY! would this game do this? It makes absolutely no sense at all! My drives are all defraged fine, nothing is running in the background, my drivers are up to date, and my PC should run this game no problem! This thing has me pulling my hair out! I don't think I've ever restarted my computer so many times in one week just trying to play one game. What can I try to make this thing work stable like it should? I'm wishing I just bought this game on a console, and I hate consoles! /rant Anyway, is there any quick fixes or generic things to try? I've tried the memrestrict lines and a couple of other command lines but the game seems to run better without any of those lines. I guess this does give me a reason to spend $$$ on a new computer... mkey82
Disable SLI (from the Nvidia panel) and use memrestrict (as described in the pinned topic). Also, try out some other GPU driver version, there are usually large performance differences from version to version. red07g5
Why would I disable SLI? I thought the newest update was supposed to support it? I also have the newest drivers for my video cards so I don't think that's the problem. I just need to build a new computer, who wants to buy this POS lol Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/442061-game-refuses-to-run-or-hardly-runs/#findComment-1059804582 Share on other sites
