@meta thanks to yourself for posting some Al Green, and that 9 Lazy 9 was definetly my sh*t too.

Jake, you just can't go wrong with Scientist, I guess I've heard a dubstep version of that or something, anyways, that was HOT!

DJ Nu-Mark with Jurassic 5, hoes:

Here's another Z-Trip track I enjoy, the intro gets me vibin'. I like the 808's on this one.

I'm not sure if I've seen any Gorillaz here but if I have then it hasn't been enough.

Heard them play as pre-match entertainment at a sporting final a few years back. Sounded quite well inside the huge stadium. Was a great atmosphere.

@Wierdo.: Gotta love a president who plays sax. icon14.gif And with every thing I said about jazz a lot of those lines tend to get blurred you'll listen to jazz compilations and they will claim to be an "acid jazz" compilation or something and really have like 6 different type of music style on them. I don't get too caught up on semantics, play what makes you feel good, I say.

@Kryten: Definitely feeling The Presets and that whole electro-pop scene coming out of Austrailia these last few years.

@Cheat: I'm going to have to really look into this Z-Trip dude. We have actually played about 2 or 3 Gorillaz tracks off the new album since it dropped but that one right there happens to be my favorite. We've also played some Little Dragon which is the girl singing on that last half of that.

Do yourself a favor and check some of the earlier Little Dragon links in this thread, I'm in love with this cool little chick.

I'm not sure if anyone saw that Light Graffiti link I posted in the new Gen Chat thread earlier in the week but here's a very impressive video showing off the technique.

DJ Food & Wagon Christ make a pretty nice combo.

Love the transition around 3:40 into this track.

All the resident Hipsters and Cool Cats turn a derisive glance towards the

disheveled man child, hobo known in some circles as, "T-Bag".

Quite suddenly a spotlight shines down upon sofa_king and a Q shaped award

drops down from the ceiling promptly beaning him in the head.

monocle.gif Sofa my good man, you're a man of prestige and dignity. a veritable plethora of class and sophistication. You are the tampon that has been lodged in Martha Stewart's crotch since the age of 14 that allows her to speak with such perfect diction, erudite poise and pomposity. A pillar of the GTAF community renowned for your "helpful" and peace loving sensibilities.

Of these things, pray thee, never doubt.

So anyways, I was digging the funky guitar riffs on the first one and the guy singing on the 2nd one reminds a little of Maynard James Keenan from Tool.

This really caught my ear today.

Good melody on this as well.

Love this performance because everyone involved looks like they are genuinely enjoying themselves making the music.

At the end of the clip you hear some guy say, "that was f*ckin' fun, man". biggrin.gif

It's coming down to the wire folks Session 2, is winding down at the end of this page.

Get your final tracks in for this Session Setlist.

@Moon: I'm diggin it. I like the trippy-hippy western-ish fair, brings a new element in, makes me think of my favorite Tarantino films.

Count Bass D does some of the most experimental sounding Hip Hop out there.

Coldplay, yes. So good for this topic.

I'm counting on some of those DJ Shadow or Z-Trip tracks to carry over to the Top 3 Studio Selections, but I still hope that these are in time for the second session.

Mo DJ Shadow, it's the first track, love the turntable work on this one:

Sorry for focusing on the hip hop samples again, and I'm not normally into gospel, but this one, I feel.

@Kryten: Despite their commercial success I was a big Coldplay fan during their first two albums but Creed ranks up their along side Nickelback as two of my least favorite "Rock" bands of all time. *shiver*

@The King: Losing Nujabes at such a young age was intensely tragic, prayers and best wishes go out to his family and his great work will always be welcome here.

@Cheat: Never apologize for Hip Hop instrumentals, if anything, I have to curb my own craving for them to keep things diverse up in chair.

The Gospel seems strangely appropriate considering this recent news about Nujabes.

Dirge for the good ones who've passed.

Easily my favorite praise artist, no apologies. He speaks the truth on so many things close to my own thoughts and feelings.

Got his big break here at Stubb's in Austin.

Rest in Peace, Ascend and Be Well.

The Setlist for Session 2 is just about ready to be delieverd Hot N Fresh to your door in 30 minutes or less or your money back.

So I'm ready to wrap this page up.

Autobutts, Roll Out.

Warriors, GET UP! GET UP! GET UP!

Winding Down...

Going to bring it down a notch with this one.

Quite literally one of the most moving musical performances I have ever seen. On MTV Unplugged as unlikely as that would seem.

You can just see the pained expression of Lauryn's face as she contemplates even playing this song in the opening, she has to stop and gather herself to even sing the words.

Her message, simple words of caution and concern to a broken generation, too apathetic and dispondant to even stand up for itself.

She speaks every word quite literally and I am so entirely convinced and moved. Righteous, Holy with no written scripture in sight she spits straight prophecy.

And all I can remember is having completely glazed over, teary eyes after having watched this for the first time.

If you've noticed she really chilled and hasn't done any more major albums after this came out despite her phenomenal success. Their have been rumors of mental illness and her just kind of being a lot more private, taking time out to raise her family. I think this performance more than any other marks the moment she was truly starting to feel overwhelmed by it all.

"I Find It Hard To Say"

By Lauryn Hill.

[Lauryn Hill Talking]

...I've written it about the whole Amadou Diallo situation...

...It was such a hot time in the city at that point, I was afraid that if I

put the record out, people would Misunderstand what I meant by "Rebel" and

they just take it to the streets...

[One and only verse]

Ok, yeah, alright...

I find it hard to say, that everything is alright

Don't look at me that way, like everything is alright

Cuz my own eyes can see, through all your false pretenses

But what you fail to see, is all the consequences

You think our lives are cheap, and easy to be wasted

As history repeats, so foul you can taste it

And while the people sleep, too comfortable to face it

His life so incomplete, and nothing can replace it

And while the people sleep, too comfortable to face it

Your lives so incomplete, and nothing can replace it

Fret not thyself I say, against these laws of man

Cuz like the Bible says, His blood is on their hands

And what I gotta say, and what I gotta say, is rebel

While today is still today, choose well

And what I gotta say, is rebel, it can't go down this way

Choose well, choose well, choose well...

...choose well, choose well, choose well

And while the people sleep, too comfortable to face it

Your lives are so incomplete, and nothing, and no one, can replace it

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

And what I gotta say, and what I gotta say

And what I gotta say, and what I gotta say

And what I gotta say, and what I gotta say

And what I gotta say, and what I gotta say

Is rebel... rebel, rebel, rebel, rebel, rebel, rebel

Rebel, rebel, rebel, rebel, rebel

Repent, the day is far too spent, rebel... rebel!

Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up...

Wake up and rebel

We must destroy in order to rebuild

Wake up, you might as well

Oh are you... oh are you satisfied

Oh are you satisfied

Rebel... ohhh rebel

Why don't you rebel, why don't you rebel?

Why don't you rebel?

I'm fading myself down now...

Session 3 Begins~

@Zak.: I really liked that actually, Interesting way to use a guy who is not a music artist and focus on his words with music.

Carl Sagan was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, author, and highly successful popularizer of astronomy, astrophysics and other natural sciences. He pioneered exobiology and promoted the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.

Nice way to start the new Session, brewski. icon14.gif

So, is the Session 2 playlist coming/under work? Just curious biggrin.gif

It's totally ready to go, was just waiting on that last page to end which I'm totally surprised didn't happen a post or two back.

@Kryten: I got to see Muse in Jacksonville a few years back got drunk off my ass and violated the backseat of my friends parent's really nice SUV with barf8bd.gif

That said, it was a great show.

One of favorites from an era where R&B was just so much more conscious.

DAmmmnnn You, R. Kelly! *shakes fist*

Nice. Seems like yet another Portishead knock off. Still a nice acoustic performance.

Good combination.

Yeah I also got to see them when they were down under circa 2007. Was a great concert, would love to see them again. I didn't get to see them when they were back out here in Jan-Feb doing the Big Day Out concerts.

One that note, maybe a few more from them.

@Kryten: I'm a big Chili Peppers fan never even thought to play them in here but they have some decent feel good tunes and some really pretty chill stuff as well.

Here's a personal favorite.

Porcelain

I've been really getting into Blockhead lately, f*cking highly recommended.

This song always reminds me of funerals, and the memories that come with them. Its actually a bit soothing in a weird sort of way.

Thought this slow, acoustic rendition of "Interstate Love Song" would fit in.

Song from Paul McCartney's latest album. Has sort of a '70s r&b vibe to it.

And a Scott Weiland song that I thought would fit the topic nicely.

@Kryten: Wow I didn't know you were handy with the GFX dude, we'll have to tag that into the next setlist. That was a pretty decent cover, It takes balls to do any of those early U2 hits I pretty much want to shoot anyone going near Sunday, Bloody Sunday unless their names begins and ends with Bono. 2nd tracks pretty punky, reminds me of some early Sonic Youth or Veruca Salt.

@Vanilla: STP's a classic thanks for coming through with that.

Speaking of Sonic Youth they did a pretty decent cover of the Carpenter's, Superstar.

Stay with this, starts out a bit slow but when the beat kicks in you'll be glad you stuck around.

Dedicating this to all the shorties out there at GTAF, stay beautiful.

All 6 of you.
