@sofa: That was performed on the SNL set? lol at "Probing Uranus ".

@Vanilla: Pitched a lot of woo to that particular track. wink.gif

@Xeon: Thanks for stopping in, I think our viewership has been fairly decent this week but the thread only thrives with participation so again to everyone who's posted, thanks.

Really enjoyed the somber tone on that Nick Drake track.

Most people may not recognize the original Tear for Fears version of this.

It was made very popular by the Donnie Darko Soundtrack and spawned a dozen covers.

Probably one of the most memorable videos of all time for me.

I can completely picture this playing out in my head when ever I listen to it.

Awesome song, album got a bit grating about 6 tracks in.

Ahhhk, Gotcha.

Might as well roll out a few more.

I was watching Mighty Boosh last night and this had me in stitches.

Perfect Parody of half the stuff we play in here. biggrin.gif

Still don't believe me?

Check mate, muthaf*ckas.

Quiet again on the Music Boards today, I think I saw like 3 posts in the Hip Hop topic all day.

Well no reason to stop the tunes from flowin'.

Good Night, Friends.

This was one of many projects Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon fame has been involved with prior to joining the group.

I'm taking her on as my 2nd wife, I think, in true old school Mormon fashion..

One of the better tracks off their 2nd album, Angel Milk.

Been wanting to break Krush in here for a minute.

I was definitely big on Empire when I 1st started listening to them earlier last year but I really hate to think this might be their one and only album based on some things I've been reading. I've listened to the two projects their from when they aren't Empire (PNAU, The Sleepy Jacksons) and neither sounds quite as awesome as this. Hopefully they'll set aside their differences and do one more.

Drop a few more before I run out the door for some errands.

Bonafide Chill Out Classic.

I had no idea KLF did a Chillout album. wtf!?

Insanely catchy song.

So there is this Mcdonalds commercial I see everyday and it goes something like this girl waking up in the morning and she showers and gets dressed and heads off to work but before she gets to the office she stops into Mcdo's to get a Egg McMuffin. But to say the least it has this really catch almost lounge kind of tune playing in the background before it goes "badabapbabaaaa!"

I'd really like to know the name of that song.

Here's some Marvin Gaye instead.

Edited by Scifen

@Scifen: Track down the commercial for me, I can probably track down the song from there.

Thanks for dropping off some Marvin. icon14.gif

Marvin Gaye & Diana Ross doing a cover of The Stylistics, You Are Everything. Think they did it justice.

Cool art direction on this video.

Still my fav on the new album, I'm sure to wear it out. sigh.gif

That was actually pretty bad ass thanks for tracking it down. icon14.gif

Esthero is from Otter country. Very slept on, totally needs to do a new album.

Premo!

Love their name. lol.

Let's Keep it movin.'

Gotta say, there isn't a single track on this album that falls short, it's a definite standout.

Dude's pretty versatile, has a lot of different sounds.

Soulful. Trippy. Slightly Funky, all about it.

Vanilla Shake

Let's add some Billy Joel to this.

Only clip I could find with this song. Cool dance sequence to say the least.

His most popular tune.

And, my favorite song of all time. Relaxes me no matter what and just reminds me of the Manhattan skyline lit up at night.

@Guru: Those chicks in Total were Fyyyyyne. inlove.gif

@Vanilla: Yes, that is a good dance sequence on Big Man on Mulberry Street but I totally picture that slightly skanky lead female dancer giving it up gangbang style in the dressing room afterwards to everyone on set, including Manny the Janitor.

@Xeon: Another really good track, thanks Xe. Danger Mouse is always doing something interesting on the collaborative tip.

Think I'll play another track off his newest project, Broken Bells.

I played this track earlier in the last session but this is the new video that goes with it.

Dope. Dope. Dope.

"That's not a dance sequence, mate. THIS is a dance sequence."

(she's bangin everyone afterwards, as well)

((including Manny the Janitor))

Getting a little late, think I'll drop these before knockin' off for the night.

Pretty decent track off of Moby's, Last Night release.

You've most likely heard this song on a Virgin Mobile commercial.

I often think Lady Gaga ripped off a lot of her avant-garde schtick from Alison Goldfrapp.

This was used for a lot of HBO promos a year back or so, very catchy.

@Vanilla Shake:

I quite like some Billy Joel. I've always liked Piano Man. Not just the music but I tend to really like the lyrics of songs, and Piano Man definitely has some good lyrics. New York State of Mind has a calming affect on me as well. I don't like it as much as some other songs but I can feel where you're coming from. Getting the mental image of the Manhattan skyline at dusk, and wouldn't be surprised to see it in many Manhattan based movies etc.

@meta187:

Don't think I've ever heard Grounds for Divorce before, but think it might get a few plays on my iPod over the next few weeks. Got a tune which can really stay in your head.

Oh, and hello everyone. Don't have any to post just yet but I'll work on that.

Meta, I have a question for you. Why do you always have a photo at the end of every post you have made in this topic? Not that there is anything wrong, I like them but why? Also, mind telling me where you get them from since they would make very nice stock images for GFX.

EDIT*

Anyways meta, where the hell do you find those pics to the end of your each post? 'Cause they're friggin nice icon14.gif

I just do a random Google Image search until I find something I like, just an attempt to set the relaxing, chill mood up in here. Anyone posting feel free to do the same.

Posted that for Guru..

Tell me if I'm taking this topic to the wrong direction, but I just feel like soul/jazz/r&B/blues needs to be posted here..

So David Ruffin it is.

Also, I'm feeling like throwing up some hip hop again. And not just anything, an instrumental to a RZA production, that is.

This song is a classic and it really makes you think. So it's like made for this topic.

@Kryten: New face, thanks for stopping in, drop some tunage off on the next pass.

Tell me if I'm taking this topic to the wrong direction, but I just feel like soul/jazz/r&B/blues needs to be posted here..

Are you kidding me, man? That stuff is totally welcome if you looke back through the last two sessions I've posted a few things in those categories on just about every page. And hollleeee sheet, mang Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth is easily my favorite Killah Priest track ever.

@Guru: Looks like you got the ideal with the pics, very nice.

That Zero 7 track is one of my favs from the time that Sia was actually in the group.

That Slide Five Track, has what I am almost sure is 90's dance music star Cathy Dennis sampled over the track. I'd like to know for sure but a quick Google search turned up nothing concrete.

Soulful song about struggle and revenge. Feelin' It.

Have I posted this yet? Hope not.

If you were alive anytime in the 90's you had to be living under a rock to have missed this track.

I'm gonna start paying more attention in other people's posts biggrin.gif

Meta, that Citizen Cope was right on point. Awesome.

Another sample, but I find this one as relaxing as ever.

DJ Z-Trip. 'Nuff said.

Ever since I got my copy of Skate in which he provides huge soundtrack domination I've been rocking his tracks, and nothing like a mix of hip-hop, alternative, turntablism, hell, even a bit of trip hop maybe: I digg.

Shifting Gears is such a perfect album. Add Chester Bennington to it and see how your ears cry for happiness.

DJ Shadow. The Private Press is one of a f*cking awesome album.

Edited by Cheat

@Ats: Been a minute since you stopped by, thanks for droppin' that off. icon14.gif

DAYMN, steppin up your game, Cheat.

6 Days is my sh*t. Almost makes me want to forgive Shadow for making that Hyphy album. almost.

And you brought something new with that, Z-Trip- 3rd Gear, really liked that as well.

Undeniable classic.

Good use of Billie Holiday's vocals.

Lets kick it back up a notch.

Hey, what's that door?

smoke and the distinct smell of gasoline fume out of the open door, followed by the low hum of a motor.

Guess this is the garage.

Absolutely my favorite album from 2008, The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull is a hypnotic masterpiece of droneing soundscape and neo-western. This is what driving through the desert at dusk while on a peyote tripe must seem like.

@Moon: That was awesome, made me think of that soundtrack Trent Reznor put together for Natural Born Killers with a pinch of Los Lobos for kick. It would easily fit into a desert scene in some Texas panorama. I heard this track yesterday on the new Broken Bells CD I can't shut up about called Mongrel Heart and that sort of reminded me of it with the whole Neo-Western vibe. It hasn't been uploaded to Youtube yet but you should definitely give it a listen. There's a live performance of it but the sound quality is pretty sh*t. Link Good clean listen of it here. The spanish horns towards the latter half really sell it.

@Jake: If GTA did one thing correctly it exposed a whole new generation to Scientist. icon14.gif

This spanish guitar duo, Rodrigo Y Gabriela are pretty frickin' amazing.

Kankick, really diggin this dudes stuff.

Slightly more ambient but with some high end production to bring it up.

One of my favorite songs, definitely fits in the 'Chill Out' category:

It's a song which mellows you out, let's you relax, and allows all your worries to go away.

BTW, stunning lack of Jazz for a topic all about relaxing music.

BTW, stunning lack of Jazz for a topic all about relaxing music.

Well there has certainly been jazz in this topic but a majority of it has been reworked acid jazz or nu jazz like that Bille Holiday track you see two posts back, which is a bit more to my tastes. I haven't played as much vintage jazz in here as I initially intended though. I noticed you posted a jazz track in the Youtube topic and I was going to shoot you an invite earlier, this particular type of jazz you've played in both instances is usually refered to as "Smooth Jazz" or plainly put contempory jazz and is usually the most radio friendly, polished and commercially circulated. There's a national chain of Smooth Jazz stations called The Wave which my father listens to quite a bit but if I were to be frank sometimes come off a bit bland to me as I had to listen to it a lot growing up. That's not to say it isn't welcome I just tend to lean in a more eclectic, progressive direction on my selections.

Nu-Jazz

Acid Jazz

Smooth Jazz

Classic Jazz

Yes, I know that's Smooth Jazz, I was going to post the video that was on the 'Smoooth' Jazz YouTube channel, but I thought this video seemed a little cleaner, since the video title was properly capitalized. I'm sorry you don't look at Smooth Jazz song the same way I do, but I understand that everyone has different tastes. smile.gif

Besides, I would probably get bored of a certain music genre too if I was forced to listen to it 24/7.

Although I am getting some good vibes towards that 'Acid Jazz' and I already know very well about classic Jazz (Louis Armstrong fan myself). Personally, out of all the types of Jazz, I'd have to pick Saxophone Jazz with a touch of the blues. cool.gif :
