Probably the three mellowest tracks these guys have ever produced, and they're fantastical.

I've misjudged Queens Of The Stone Age from the start. Altoughh I mildly enjoyed some of the songs I've heard here and there, I'm now really listening to them with a different ear and think they're great.

Anyone ever listen to Caribou? I only had a quick listen to his latest album, Swim. I liked it first time. Turns out he's playing here at Electric Picnic festival in two weeks. Can't wait.

Claude Speed.

I'm going to make a one tune post, presenting you one of the best 8 bit tunes of all time:

Matt Simmonds (4mat) - Blank Page (Day 24)

Epic!

@Cand: Waits and Zappa on the same page!? mercie_blink.gif [/universe implode]

I totally had you pegged as a Zappa fan btw. biggrin.gif

@Sound: Loving that updated Lee Perry and Caribou has had some play in earlier sessions, really like them as well.

@TwoCan: Queens get a major endorsement and support from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl for a reason. They're definitely doing their own thing soundwise.

@Claude: There's a lot of glitch hop floating around youtube and the internet in general you might enjoy it as sort of the graduation from the 8 Bit sound which I like as well.

Aside from having an excellent singing voice and captivating whistle, Bird is super

versatile as far as styles of music he can sing. Check him out if you get a chance.

Nice classic feel.

Has a very La Roux type sound to her.

I've been listening to more Waits lately, just got into Swordfishtrombones and revisiting Rain Dogs. Solid albums. Rain Dogs is really a 'and the kitchensink' album, many tracks and different feelings. Some of it I skip over, not a huge fan of his foray into country on that one track honestly, but most of it is very diggable.

Here's some sh*t most of you probably haven't heard. First track is from very under-appreciated British band from '79-'81ish This Heat. The couple albums they did put out are excellent. This is an instrumental track that shows just how ahead of their time they were. This particular track might be heavy-industrial/experimental?

And another track from them off possibly the most known of their few obscure albums, Deceit. Listening to these two tracks still wont give you a great feel for their sound, except maybe that you'll know they mean serious business.

Here's a classic.

"I find myself in Big City prison, arisen from the vision of man kind.

Designed, to keep me discreetly neatly in the corner, youll find me with the flora and the fauna and the hardship.

Back a yard is where my heart is still I find it hard to depart this Big City Life"

@meta that Andrew Bird, never heard of him, but that song was something brilliant. Will most definetly check him out, sounds like a true multitalent.

@otter Kid Cudi, really diggin' this guy's music at the moment, he blends into the rap scene very well for a male singer, now that's not too common right? He is great.

..so I wouldn't have this awesome instrumental any other way than with the hook. The beat is beautiful.

Revelation: I'm not an regular listener of J Dilla.

Not that I don't love his work, it's just that I never have oriented myself into his works that much.

I should shrive, right? Here's my favorite.

@Cand: The lead guitar on that 2nd selection immediatly makes me think of U2's Where the Streets Have No Name.

@Otter: That Cee Lo song has gone very sucessfully viral in the last 2 weeks. Love it.

@Cheat: I found some songs by that Mattafix guy a few sessions back and posted one. Seems like a pretty even dude.

One of my favorite classic rock tunes, used a few techniques very ahead of it's time in the recording process.

"Crimson and Clover" is a song by American rock band Tommy James and the Shondells. Written by the duo of Tommy James and drummer Peter Lucia Jr., it was intended as a change in direction of the group's sound and composition. The song features a tremolo effect on the guitar and an ending section with a tremolo effect on the vocals.

"Crimson and Clover" was released in late 1968 as a rough mix after a radio station leaked it. It spent 16 weeks on the U.S. charts, reaching number-one in the United States and other countries. The single has sold at least 5 and a half million copies, making it Tommy James and the Shondells' best-selling song. An extended version was released on the eponymously titled Crimson and Clover, and the song has been covered by many artists such as Joan Jett.

Daniel Johnston's a famously tortured soul. I have a very personal interpretation of this song.

Switch forward for a moment.

I've had a Mattafix album on my ipod for a while now and I didn't think anyone else had really heard of them. I'm going to post 2 more tracks from them now they're on my mind, and they're pretty chilled out songs

Mattafix - Gangsta Blues

Mattafix - Passer By

I don't know if there's a certain criteria to each session?

Great tunes on this page. i'm liking the 8 bit/glitch hop stuff, Cee Lo of course, and Mayer Hawthorne - Green Eyed Love and The Secret Handshake - Too Young

Indeed kippers, last page was dope! Let's keep it going!

@meta I loved that Nicolay & Kay track, it was so smooth. I really, really liked it very much!

@kippers when I heard Big City Life, I tried to find other great songs by Mattafix, but was unable to do so. But the tracks you posted, that's the sh*t there man, I liked 'em a lot.

@lethal you didn't convince me at the beginning with that track, but once it played for a while, I liked it. Creative, cool acoustic music.

@Otter Em's lyrics cracked me up, that track - like the album - is a classic.

I can't remember where or when I heard this, but it's good.

Nice sounds, nice style - 'nuff said.

I was looking for some interesting nu jazz & jazz house artists last week, and this track popped up.

Really, really relaxing.

I don't know if there's a certain criteria to each session?

No, not really. It's really open. This thread has seen just about every style of music since it's been open. Only thing we look for is tunes that put you in a good and or relaxed mood. There are some suggested genre's in the introduction but we've never been too strict over that. Only thing we do ask is that people keep their song selection to a maximum of 3 per post because we have to write them in to a setlist, which I think we've been sending you haven't we? The other reason is so you don't use up all your good tunes on one post and we never hear from you again.

@Lethal: I actually really did like that song by Ed Solo and you're right I've never heard it, which is always a plus.

@Cheat: I got into some Afrobot tracks a month or so back, they have some really good sounding tracks. Liked that Nu Jazz as well added some balance.

@Otter: I'm by no means a Tori Amos fan but my wife is and she did this surprisingly creepy cover of Em's Bonnie & Clyde a while back. Check it out.

Nice dub feel to this track.

Freshly picked produce.

I'll be back with more songs. Ed Solo & Skool of Thought is definitely a good song i've never heard.

Otter, Em's track was one of my favorites off the album, but the whole thing is quite genius.

meta, that second track got me real relaxed. Loved it.

I just couldn't leave this out because his tracks are so chilled out and some of the lyrics just crack you up.

@kippers: Got that setlist to you if you want the back issues just let me know.

@Guru: J Dilla has a permanant seat in The Lounge. I don't think we've ever had a session without at least one track by him.

A real shame we couldn't have gotten more material from him before he passed, he put out a pretty impressive ammount though for the time he was actually working. His younger brother, Illa J has some big shoes to fill.

And with that...

Good album.

Switch gears.

Minus the Boom

I don't really post here as often as I'd like to, mainly because a lot of the stuff I listen to (like 98%) doesn't really fit in here, or would largely be flamed (Linkin Park confused.gif), mainly because I've gotten a lot of great tracks from this thread. So thanks for that. colgate.gif

On we go.

And a bit of a classic...

I like the guy who posted Queens on the previous page. icon14.gif

Flamed? You'd have to be f*cking ignorant to flame Linkin Park here, the main reason I see they are not posted much is the fact that their songs are more of a melancholic than relaxing style, but I think everybody here realizes how good their music actually is.

@meta nice sound to that post, especially loved that Foreign Exhange track.

I've heard Phonte rap/sing a few times, last time on Royce da 5'9"'s Premo-produced Something 2 Ride 2, and he has appeared on 9th Wonder's albums a good bunch of times. If Authenticity really drops in October, I'll most definetly have to check it out.

Gentlemen... Music.

I pretty recently found out about Muhsinah, she seems interesting.

She is an unsigned singer from D.C, she produces her own songs with some smooth samples, her songs are really relaxing and cool, y'all should check her out.

@Cheat: Loving those Musinah joints, really mellow stuff. Definitely going to check out more of her material.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I see there has been a few Hip-Hop tacks being posted, so here is my two cents:

Loving the steel drums in this one. I was freestyling a lot to this the other day. Found a pretty decent unofficial instrumental too:

. Will have to write a verse to it.

@Minus: I actually do like a few choice songs by Linkin Park. They're about the only commercial group to have survived that sh*tty era of nu metal with any dignity in tact.

@Cheat: I was really into that Clonious track a few sessions back can't remember if I ever got around to posting it.

@games: That Hi-Tek track was going on. Like the beat on the Curren$y joint.

This takes me back to Thursday Skate Nights at Galaxy Skateway in Melbourne, FL.

Been wanting to play something by Tycho for a while now...kept forgetting.

@kippers: Can't say that track has been played in here before very good choice.

@Sound: I just happened to be listenng to a track by Clark last night before I went to bed, again good selection.

A superior remix on a classic joint.

@guru: Outkast is a big favorite, I've bought most of their albums. The Dungeon Family in general are pretty much some of the best and most creative emcee's coming out of the south as far as I'm concerned.

@Rown: Love the original version. Hated when Puff Daddy (called that at the time) sampled it for the Godzilla Soundtrack. That sh!t was wacksauce.

A lot of interesting things going on with this track.

Good song to wake up with.

Yppah, a reversal of the word happy, pronounced "yippah," started out as Texas native Joe Corrales' solo electronic project before evolving into a full-fledged rock outfit. Roping in Chemical Brothers beats, '60s psychedelic, post-rock, and shoegaze, the result is an atmospheric, soothing soundscape that smoothly jumps from style to style. His ability to transcend genres is not surprising. Corrales tinkered with many different types of music in his past, starting out playing guitar and bass in several rock bands in his teens and then founding the turntablist group the Truth once he switched over to DJing. After turning to producing and releasing his poignant debut, You Are Beautiful at All Times, in 2006, he formed a live band, adding Thomas Sutherland, Nicholas Noeding, Jr., Mark Speer, and Ira Dean, among other rotating bandmembers. As a group, Yppah were well received, and they quickly picked up gigs playing at SXSW 2007 and the Starbucks Mixed Media Series. Also, as fitting as their music was for soundtracks, songs were featured in episodes of CSI and House and the Kevin Spacey movie 21. Corrales took a brief break to return to DJing before resuming work on Yppah's sophomore album, They Know What Ghost Know, released in spring of 2009. ~ Jason Lymangrover, Rovi
