Will I lose Grand Theft Auto IV data?

Recommended Posts

I have saved data on my Playstation 3 which I am proud of and do not want to lose it all. I am simply updating and I am buying a PS3 slim. I have a friend who mentioned there is a way to simply keep my data and not lose anything of my "beloved game-play" after 2 years of fun.

I thought maybe someone has had the same problem or simply knows there stuff.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks.

I did the same thing a few months ago (updated to a Slim) just do what dude above me said: Copy your data to a USB Drive and then you can copy it from there to your new PS3

Are you sure it works? It won't say anything when you load the game like, "You did not create this save data" or something?

There might be a problem with trophies, perhaps. I'm not sure.

There's a backup utility within the PS3, hook your console up to an external harddrive or USB stick and you can backup to that - some games don't allow simple copying as mentioned above, the new console won't read the data saying that it comes from elsewhere. So your best bet is to use the backup, I haven't used it in some time so I'm not quite sure but I THINK it allows you to specifically select what you want backed up - If not just back it all up and you can then link the storage device to your new PS3 and restore all the data. Also your trophies won't be backed up but if you sign in and then go to your profile and "sync with server" all your trophies will appear.

Hope this helped.

Backup utility, eh? Sounds good. So I can back up data on any type of device right? PSP, memory stick, etc.? Besides external hard drive and USB stick. I hope that the GTA: IV saves from my PS3 will work on the new one if I get a new PS3, however. Thanks!

The saves will very, very likely work. And if I recall correctly, you already have your platinum. So, even if you do a simple copy job, you should be fine.

When I copied my files onto my 120GB, everything worked fine, the only thing that changed was the time on the files, they all changed to the January 1st...I'm still able to get trophies and everything

This isn't working with some games, but with GTA IV it works like a dream. I had to test it myself (damn sony). Trophies as people said here are on the server, so you won't lose them. Saves copying doesn't work with Burnout Paradise and Killzone 2 (those I tested)
