I don't worry about them too much. I don't think I've ever got 1000/1000 in any of my games, but occasionally I'll try and get some once I've played the game to death and haven't got anything better to do. The main problem with them is that many are only achieved after some serious grinding/stupid luck/large amounts of wasted time.

They're a gimmick. Some people go for them like it's going to save their life. Others don't give a sh*t.

Gamerscore doesn't matter in the least. Those points serve no purpose, and it's pathetic when people waste time on Earth by going for them. bored.gif

-Kajun- put it well:

Achievements and Trophies = waste of time in my book bored.gif

Well if it's game that I played in my main profile and if it doesn't show 100% complete, I usually complete the trophies. I don't like to buy any more PS3 games because of the trophies. I have some OCD or something when it comes to trophies. I don't like to go for them unless I have to. GTA: IV is the main game that I play anyway, lol.

Well, I actually do care about getting the last two trophies for GTA IV for "Taking a Liberty". tounge2.gif

Otherwise, I'm not concern about all the trophies for most other games. GTA IV just seems like it's probably easier to get all the trophies more than most other games (especially when beating the highest game difficulty for a trophy).

I may still like to get some of the Fallout 3 ones yet. I got the "Bigger They Are..." trophy with Fawkes as a companion and using an Alien Blaster. I'm guessing that's pretty much cheating due to it being a gold trophy? lol.gif

Otherwise in other games, I usually go for trophies if they seem very easy to get just so my PSN I.D. is updated with more trophies.

I usually play through any game and if they pop up they pop up. Once I've finished I'll take a look through them and if they seem like fun/challenge then I'll try them. I've only ever gotten 2 games to 1000GS on each. Felt quite nice actually on Bully since that monkey fling arcade game was a pain in the ass.

I didn't care about trophies until Bioshock. I was the last mission on the second playthrough away from getting them all. Then I installed an update that included trophies for the 'rescue the little sisters' add-ons. It took me back to 60% finished. I got so pissed I just gave up.

I like the funny trophies from GTA when they pop up unexpected and make me lulz. But I couldn't give less a damn about actually obtaining them.

No. I will never go of my way for them. I guess the concept is alright, but I'm just not into it.

I didn't till Voodoo and I started playing more on LIVE over the last two years and I realized we both have a f*ckton of Achievment Points between us, more than most people on my friends list other than him. Kinda sad, I know. tounge.gif

Love them (trophies that is), my current count (1850) is proof of this!

I wont lie, at first when it was announced we (the PS3 community) were getting them I wasn’t keen and had hoped for an option to turn on or off an option when you start a game but the more I got the more I was pleased. I’m not bothered about the count so much but I do like that they will sometimes give you more incentive to play the game again, sometimes a different way or even to do things in numbers you may not normally do.

I think they're a great idea. As is obvious from this topic, if you think they're that big a waste of time, ignore them!

Personally, I've gone out of my way to get some in the past, and will again. I have 1000/1000 for MW2 and AC2, two of my favourite games to come out recently. I'll do it for ME2 when they give me insentive to play through on Insane. tounge.gif

I just hate when you see those ones and think "I am never going to get that."

Yep. I don't buy games for achievements, but I'll definitely try and get as many as possible for any game I play. I don't mind going out of my way to get them either, but there are some games that I'll just give up on because I find them too boring.

I sincerely hate those, like in Gran Tourismo where the only good cars cost too much to afford, or in war games where you have to get like 1000000 kills to get an acheivement.

Since Gran Turismo 5 is yet to be released and Prologue features no trophies, I don't see what you're on about. Specially as you bitch about the price of "good cars". Also, one million kills in a war game, especially one that features online doesn't sound that hard.

Trophies and achievements are just materializations of the bragging rights people have been reserving themselves since the dawn of the gaming era. They're supposed to mean something special. The whole concept goes south if those selective achievements are achieveable for everyone.

achievments are a bit of fun in the end, and i find certain ones make the game more interesting and makes you play in ways you wouldnt have done before. like the gnome achievement in l4d2, and getting through dead space with just the plasma cutter (which is pretty damn hard on medium stuck on part 9)
