asukablue
Here's the problem I have. A few weeks after I downloaded the Service Pack2 for XP, gta3 won't start up anymore. After the opening credits and clicking either "Start New Game" or "Load Game", it freezes at the screen where it's about to start and the blue line is stuck 3/4 of the way. I can minimize it by pressing Start or Alt and I get an error message that reads: Unhandled exception: c0000005 At address: 005ac040 I've noticed that a lot of other people's error messages have slighty different addresses. The only mod I have is the one for the ghost town bridge. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
teh roxxors
I'm running into the same old bug I remember from years ago: You try to load a saved game, the blue screen (the one with GTA3 characters on it) comes up, but nothing else happens--your game won't load, and you need Windows Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) to force the game closed. You enter a blue mission field and start a cinematic. When the cinematic ends, the blue screen comes up, but the game just hangs. You need Windows Task Manager to force the game closed. You make a unique jump, but the cut scene won't end--you can't return to normal game play. You can still press ESC to get to the game menus, but can't seem to get the cut scene to end. I've seen a few claims for save game fixes, but they don't fix this problem at all. The 1.1 patch doesn't fix this problem. Playing without the patch doesn't fix it, either. I've seen this problem on AMD & Intel machines now, with both ATI and Nvidia cards. My current rig exceeds all requirements for the game by miles. This isn't a driver or Direct X problem, or a sound problem. Or a BIOS or any other scapegoat problem. I'm not running any mods or hacks or cracks or warez. The game runs like crap and is full of bugs. I can't believe Rockstar never bothered to patch this. Between the miserable performance of the game engine and these bugs, this is the worst port I've ever played. Turning on frame sync in the display setup prevents the lockups, but frame rates really suffer for it. Turning frame limiter on also prevents lockups, but then frame rates become so poor that you simply do not want to play. It seems when ever a video plays in GTA3 the characters are headless and/or have there heads streched into a smear-y streak. i thought it was the fault of my old video card( intergrated intel based 32MB not sure of its chipset), however i just installed a new one (a 256MB Saphire Radeon, with ATI chipset 9550) and while my performance has greatly increased, i still have the headless/smear-y head problem . can someone please help me? Oh yea.. computer specs are: CPU: AMD Athlon XP1800+ (about 1.5 Mghz), Video card: 25MB ATI sapphire radeon 9550, Ram: 256MB PC2100 SDRam Sound: some sh*tty intergrated sound card(not the problem) Hardrive:60 GB Drives: Yamaha cd burner, and a compaq DVD-rom any help would nice thank you in advance

I can see the different menu's but can't move the mouse, the whole computer hangs. The only thing I can do is hard reset the computer The game has worked in the past on this computer, also GTA Vice City has worked on this computer. (I've reinstalled windows since then) But for some reason both games don't want to work anymore. PLZ help me! Pulsar
I've got 2 questions. First and most important question: Can i have a link where i can download lips.wav?? My lips.wav doesnt play music. (i've checked the vile with windows mediaplayer, i only have music for 1 or 2 minutes, then the file still is playing, but there is no music for the rest of time) I hope you understand what i mean. I only need a better file for playing lips.wav 2nd question: When i play gta3 the game requires more pc speed then Gta vice city. I that right?? I can play gta3 at 1280 by 1024 normal. When i set aa on in windows with the driver program, i can't play gta3 normal anymore. If i do the same with vice city it runs very wel. Is there any update for gta3 which fix that??? My pc specs: P4 3.0ghz 512KB cache 800mhz fsb 1.5 GB of ram 200 GB rom (won't be usefull in this case) Ati 9800xxl 128MB ram(faster than 9800pro but slower than 9800xt) Edited March 26, 2006 by Pulsar
Ben
First question - sorry, can't help you on this. Second question - I think that's related to the different game engines used for GTA3 and VC. If you want to play GTA3 on the VC engine, where it will run smoother, check out GTA: Liberty City . But I don't think there's a way to fix it for GTA3 - I don't know why you're worried anyway. It shouldn't run too slow with specs like that - I have P4 1.7GHz, 256MB RAM, and Radeon 9200 SE 128MB GFX, and it runs fairly smooth on my PC . Demarest
Check all the other discussions on the subject. Lower your bit depth to 16, turn down AA and AF, etc. It's a bandwidth issue, so tweak your hard drive anyway you can, including defragging it. Pulsar
Oke thanx for the answers on the second question. But isn't there anyone who can upload lips.wav en give me a link to download it??? I really like to have it!!!!
Ben
Pretty sure that'd be illegal - sorry. It should be on your CD and it should play fine, unless of course your CD is scratched.

shindogg
I started playing GTA3 with Real GTA. Then i start mission 15("SALVATORE'S CALLED A MEETING") i pick up Salvatore with the Limo and the triad trucks comes. And then i start shooting them an error box appears. Unhandled Exception : c0000005 At Address : 004b8e53 i had that same exact problem. the way i worked around it was to first get of the car (even though the game flashes a message to get back in...ignore it) and to destroy the van. then get back in the car and try to drive to salvatore's hideout as fast as possible. it helps to know the map of portland so you can use shortcuts and do your best to outrun the vans. this can, if you're fast enough, prevent the exception. if not, you can also backup a copy of your handling.cfg and edit the van's acceleration down to zero (yes, its cheatin, but so what!) and after you complete the mission, switch it back to backed up one. you can also (if you backed up the folder) to use the original pre-realgta3 version, then switch back after you've completed the mission and saved the game. shindogg
It should be on your CD and it should play fine, unless of course your CD is scratched. there you go. what is someone supposed to if its scratched? the scratches wont come off and they dont carry the cd in stores anymore. (and anyway, whats the point of re-buyin a copy of a game you already own?) you know how it is, right? damn stores dont carry games unless they came out less than 2 months or so ago. i suppose you cant refer me to a site where i can get a copy of the radio stations? just the radio, nothing else! its like what, 9 little files? im sure rockstar doesnt care...theyre more focused on san andreas. im sure that's why i hear more about it than i do gta3. shindogg
I'm running GTA 3 with the 1.1 patch and RealGTA 3 installed. There's your problems. The mod is obviously screwing up your game, get rid of it... that cant be. the mod is supposed to make the game better, not worse. i mean, after all, it was tested many times by its creator to work bugs out of it. your suggestion is just as bad as if someone said "oh, windows is givin you problems? uninstall it and go back to usin dos." it doesnt fix the problem, and neither does removin the realgta3. sure, maybe you wont get the exception you got before, but then you might get a new one. plus you have to give up the lady liberty and cool signs by mcdonalds or microsoft and you cant drive the ferrari or prowler or cooler lookin dodo (renamed f16). itd be nicer to instead use an exception translator to figure out what "exception 0052d113" stands for and fix that error. problem is, i dont know where one is. im not findin any on google. tell theres one out there please!
