Doomy
Can we sue for false advertisement?... Like, we bought a disc of plastic for 50 dollars?... asagan
I have never had this many problems with a game before. I spent how much for a game that I can't even play? It took me two days to get past the character screen as it would just sit there. The only way to get the game going is to install the patch that moves the saved stuff from my documents to the game folder. Now it is freezing all the time. I can only play it for two minutes before it freezes. What a joke.
lynx85
i am goin crazy here, i need some serious advice on how to get GTA 3 to work for my pc. i know it can handle the game. its the only one that i have that will not play. i have never ever had problems with games. but ive had this game since june and cant play it all. the problem is that when i start the game, the beginnning movie starts and it locks up at the part with the police truck turning the corner. everytime, the same spot. i have got the patch and i have changed the names of the movies, it didnt work. i even tried to skip the intro movie. but it locks up on the loading screen. then goes back to desktop. any suggestions from anyone i would appreciate it a lot. Doomy
I know what you mean, but trust me, If you're like me... You know this happens with a lot of differant games. I buy a new game about every few weeks, and most of the time I just buy it cause it looks good at the store, and I havn't played the demo or played it else where, and if your like me the store doesn't let you take back software and you loose a good 50 bucks. With technology going so fast games just can't test on every damn piece of hardware that could complicate things. Someone needs to f*cking make some damn ground rules so this sh*t will stop happening, we can't have games trying to do this and our sound card disagreeing...Everything needs to be on the same page and thats not gonna happen with technology. yakuzakilla
ok heres my specs: AMD Athlon 1700+ soyo dragon plus motherboard 512 ddr ram ati radeon 8500le 2 40gig harddrives set up as raid level 2 striping config win xp and heres my problems: I get missing textures especially if I am in a car moving fast, I have installed the new drivers for my video card and tried other things mentioned in this topic, it made the problem somewhat better but it still happens. The missing textures are usually the ground or buildings, but ocassionally a car will have missing textures. Also sometimes the game slowsdown and then comes back. I have gta3 installed twice on my computer, one is for the most part original, and one has alot of new cars(I think there is only like 5 original ones left) The problem happens to both of them, the one that has the new cars more though. I have never had any problems running any other games befor. I have RTCWolfenstien with all the setting maxed out and not a bit of slowdown or any other problems, I know they're not comparible games in anyway, its just a example of not having any problems with any other games. I hope when vice city comes out for the pc there won't be as many problems.
The_ReVenger
I guess the guys from Rockstart ain't bringing out any patches or helping anybody with that Unhandled Exception error, because they want to keep it quiet, mainly because when anybody that wants to buy the game knows of it, thinks, i don't gonna buy it. Zephyr, the file is named txd.img and its in GTAIII/models directory Doomy, personally, if you are going to be an 'impulse buyer' and you dont like the product that you bought without any type of research into it, then its your own fault that you got screwed, the game wasnt ever meant to be PC, the PS2 version works perfect, but the PC version is just a ported version of the PS2, they hurried production of the PC version because of all the whining the PC consumer market did, its not R* fault you didnt research the game, so dont blame them Yakuzakilla, that happens with all of us, because of the poor quality 3D rendering system that R* used when they created GTA3 there is no way around this, VC is supposed to have a far superior 3D rendering system, but who knows... mong_Man
on page 6 joe (some name like that) said I went throught the site mentioned in (1) but the myth fixed exe file was not there in the gta3 section. It doesn't appear to be anywhere on the site Right, Why would he want the fixed myth file? Got the fake game, well Im not moaning its not like I've got a couple (of hundred) Game off iMesh before now is it? any way this file stops the load error, just go to MegaGames Bootleg Save Game fix, This File Works Just Bung it in your GTAIII Directory overwriting the GtaIII.exe or whatever it is. This Works with Fake game and Full Game for ppl who dont want to put 1.1 on

herbiii
For all peeps with graphical problems install your Via driver not in Turbo but in Normal mode set your AGP Aperture size at atleast 64MB (bios) set your AGP to 2x instead of 4x ive tried gta3 on my PC with winXP both with VIA usual drivers and the Hyperion, both was without any crashing. I had a cracked version, and i was able to load/save also, and my gta3 never ever ever crashed (on a [duron 700] [abit kt7a (newest bios flash)] [256mb pc133] [gf2mx 64bit 32MB memory] [winXP pro] When i transferred to Win ME (lost my XP cd, AD-aware f*cked up my nearly 2 years old XP Pro installation ) i suddenly crashed in a minute of playing gta3.. and i use Via hyperion, detonator 40.something, newest sb live value drivers etc the things i post here is what im trying right now, i did my ME isntallation yesterday . thats why i cant assure u if it works or not because i do not have the time to test along time after each setting moddd i make. for all peeps with crashing problems try this in yourbios: PCI Delay transaction - enable Delay transaction - enable Pci Time-Out Delay (also known as Pci Latency Timer) - 5 set your desktop to 60hz, or u might have the option to set it application controlled aswell, which would suit fine also. it might still crash sometimes/often.. for all peeps getting the 12mb video error set your desktop resolution lower and try gta3 at 16bit instead of 32. the agp aperture setting (bios, read above) might affect this aswell. If you really wanna get rid of the problems u need to do those stuff above except for the Hz thingi but install win XP. set your frame limiter/trails and sync off (in gta3) trails cuz else graphics get a little transient/weird turn on your vsync in your video driver (rightclick desktop, propertys blabla) make sure your memory swap file is not too small (rightclick "My computer" blabla) for the guys saying they never cant re install gta3 ever again when my gta3 is installed and i put cd 1 in my drive autorun wants to reinstall it even if it allready is. 1 thingi i can assure you is it doesnt matter a crap if you got the cracked or the normal version. I just tested like 3 missions on a row and i played for 2 hours on a row..... after changing those bios settings.....

Gung-Ho Harry
Ok, this has come up before I am sure, but I dont have much time right now and this topic is 7 pages long.. hehe. I used to be running an 800mhz P3, Geforce2 pro, 512 mb ram. and then GTA3 ran fine. it was great. Now I have a new computer that is 2.6gig P4, Radeon 9700 Pro, SB Audigy, 1gig rdRam, XP Pro. and now my game starts to slow down after 10-20 mintues of play. It drops to like 5-10 fps. It seems to be a problem with my video card, as occasionall if I close GTA3 and try to run it again right after I get an error saying "You need at least 12mb of available video memory available to run this game." I know I have the memory, the Radeon has 128mb on it, but GTA3 seems to fill it up and not give up the memory its no longer using or something, so its like Im running out of video memory. I have all the latest drivers, the 1.1 patch, etc. Anyone help, please?
GrandTheivery
You may have recently updated your video drivers? This bug will pop up if you try to install new drivers over old drivers for an ATI card. You often cannot remove the old drivers, and the new drivers will not install properly. You may check your Advanced video settings and find under the SMARTGART tab that the card is no longer operating at 4x speed. If that's the case, you will need to do a clean Windows install along with the new ATI drivers. Every time I update my ATI drivers, I do a clean Windows install. GeForce cards are a little more forgiving, though—I could always install newer Detonator drivers over older ones without a hitch.
GrandTheivery
Here's an actual bug report and the fix: This bug appears under three circumstances if Frame Sync is turned off: 1. Immediately after a cinematic video, when the game switches to the bluish loading screen, GTAIII will lock up, requiring CTRL-ALT-DEL to close. 2. When loading certain saved games from the game menus, the game will switch to the bluish loading screen then lock up, requiring CTRL-ALT-DEL to close. 3. Cinematic videos occasionally will not end as expected. Players will not be able to regain normal control over the game; instead, the game camera remains fixed in a cinematic perspective. Players may or may not be able to press the ESC key and return to the game menus to exit GTAIII. Regardless, CTRL-ALT-DEL works to shut the game down. TURNING FRAME SYNC ON IN THE GAME MENUS ALLOWS SOME PLAYERS TO LOAD SAVED GAMES WITHOUT LOCK UPS. Players can leave frame sync on or turn it off once their game has loaded, if GTAIII performs better on their systems that way. Saving games is NOT affected by this bug. bradlavigne
I found a way to fix the slow texture drawing or whatever (when the textures dont draw in time and you need to wait a bit.) Ok, i was going to take a screenshot to see the problem, and every time i would look at a brocken texture and push print screen, it would fix. so i guess print screen fixxes the problem, dont flame me if this was posted before because i havent been on this site in months. Rudolf
Look, i don't think i have any more time left, so i will give you all this advice: Don't buy GTA3!! Unless you have the recommended specs (which are practically the minimum) you might have a chance to run it properly. Maybe, you can try setting your sound quality lower, as that actually works in Battlefield 1942 too. Theres nothing more there can be said. GTA3 has a f*cked up engine, and you need to be lucky to get it running properly.
Godfather Trapani
Look, I got the same issue that so many others got, but no matter what I do, the damn computer just seems to keep screwin' up! I looked at the first post in this topic, and the advice was useless. My problem is that the loading screen with all the main characters on it freezes. You know how you can hear the D drive starting up when you first insert the CD? If you pay attention, you'll hear it tone down after a certain amount of inactivity. I hear that every time after 3 seconds on that loading screen. I'm sure the problem doesn't involve my computer's capabilities, but what the Hell, here are my specs: Intel P4 processor CPU 1300 MHz 640 MB of RAM Now I know pretty mich what you're thinking "Jeez this guy is a moron! He can't even figure out his own system specs on his own!" But just bear with me. I noticed something odd with my issue. The first sign of error was when the Rockstar North logo appeared on my desktop and the D drive stopped right there. It was only after a few reinstallations and system restorations that it changed to the loading screen freeze error. .If anyone has got any possible solutions for me, just continue posting here. WAIT! I almost forgot, I'm running on Windows XP but never encountered the blocky text problem even when GTA3 functioned on XP.
Dameon1
I think you will find this entertaining. It only does this on a game or two I have. When i start the game and go past the logo screens, it freezes. I pop the disc once, put it back in. I repeat that and it continues. What is going on here???!!!??? It isnt just GTA, its this other game too. But gta is better with getting started. I think it may be trouble with reading the disc (in which I have had probs reading different discs with install progs, but windows is ok.) but a paticular demo that doesnt require a disc does the same thing. Yes I meet requirements
