at last I can play gta3 with my sonic fury and not the crappy old on board that I was having to use  handy list of tips they are and I shall be sending more peeps here as you seem to have a fix for everything

Click start, then run. Type "dxdiag" and click the display tab and look for the title "drivers". For the directx driver, click on system and for "directx version".

TO the guy with the logitech pad: If its the logitech wingman rumble pad the fix for the spinning character is to change it to sports mode (I didn't even know you could at first) And make sure the throttle control is centered.

             

             Now my problem. I purchased gta3 2 days ago installed it on my week old computer, and got extremely shitty performance. Before I explain the problem and the list of solutions I have tried, my specs are

-p4 1.7ghz with the intel 845e motherboard

-256mb of ddr

-80gig 7200 rpm hd

-ati radeon 7000 64mb with tv out (VE)

-SAmsung flatpanel monitor (irrelivant)

-cdrw (32x10x40)

-16x dvd

-altech lansing avs300 speaker system running off of  soundmax integrated audio

-win XP home

-sympatico high speed broadband

       *I had the uprgraded drivers for my vid card but it seems to run better stock, so it has the original drivers.

When I play the game the most noticable thing is the slow frame rate even at 640x480 at 16 bit coulor. With trails on it looked like something you'd see on ecstacy or some other high end hallucinagin. So step one was turning that off. Another visual problem was chunks of roads are transparent, and so i run into invisible walls sometimes. I looked around the site and read a helpful post on solutions to comon problems. I downloaded the 3d analyzer, the advanced options (which i have yet to fiddle with) and the fps increaser. the 3d analyzer seemed to make no difference except that i could see my nice low frame rate of 11fps. using the fps increaser brings it up to around 18 average. (sh*t sorry, this is when testing in 800x600x16) (now i am in 640x480x16 with 23 fps) The 23 is almost tolerable but I am positive it should be more, even if the vid card is a piece. The graphics glitches are annoying as hell and the added fun of now having to play with only pimps and hookers with no litter and rain makes the game all the much more enjoyable.  SO if anyone has any ideas as to what I may be able to do to boost performance it would be greatly appreciated.

 

Oh, and I also installed that direct x inhancment changing the files to 5.01.2600.0029 (d3d8 & ddraw)

I've uploaded this radiopatch to my webspace , its right here :

you have to copy all the audiofiles from cd2 to your harddrive and then overwrite some of the audiofiles with the ones included in this patch . This removes the radios which use a lot of memory(don't use this patch if you've got 384mb of ram or more)

What about the "CAN'T READ DVD" error that some people are having like me. It is so annoying as I wouldn't mind having low fps compared to no gameplay at all.

The graphics aren't normally that grey, but when this error happens they go like this.

It was very generous of you to make that list rudolf   . I have just a few questions, what are the best options to check in 3d analyse, how do u install chefz patch and what does it do and can you have all the frame rate patch's working together to create superfast gameplay. Any replies would be helpful although these questions are directed at rudolf.

Now i can play gta3 with 25-30 fps with NO lag problems

Wow.. thanks for the replies. It also helps keeping this topic at the top! Now , as for the patchs , the 3d analyzer one, you must tick the box "force sw tnl" in the directx box. Then you must select the gta3.exe, probably in program files>rockstar games>gta3.. and then click run.

 

I actually haven't tried running them altogether. The highfpsv5 one can i believe run with the 3danalyzer one. But i'm not sure if the options will be activated. But you can check this by ticking the "remove litter" and such box in highfpsv5, and then run 3danalyzer (also use 3danalyzer to start up game) and see if the leaves and papers are gone.

If so, they'll work together.

 

I haven't even tested the Advanced options patch yet, so i dunno about that one.. sorry.

 

The chefzpatch, i think, let's gta3 display the textures later, which will create faster gameplay. Judging from the speedup patches benchmarks, it helped a lot. But i got all weird effects from it, like disapparing roads and blurry buildings. Dunno if chefzpatch was the cause of this so i'm not sure.

 

The chefzpatch has a readme, which comes with the d/l. Instructions are inside the textfile. This patch installs some files, and dosen't require you to run it everytime you want to play gta3.

 

I dunno about the DVD error. Probably the DVD has a scratch on it or something, or your DVD writer is the problem.. but, it could also be that your game simply locksup. And the DVD has just that option to report the error. Lock ups are mentioned in the file too.

 

Thanks for the fix, GUNNIX. I'll add it to my list. Well, that's everything i can say for now. If you have tried everything mentioned in this whole forum, then there is only the chance R* themself can offer a solution. If you plan to send them an email; i would advice the following things;

 

1. Be very polite.

2. Don't use too many caps.

3. No shouting.

4. Make sure your email title is attractive enough.

I don't even have a DVD-ROM or Writer, and the cd doesn't get read only when you start the game.

that error seems to be caused by a combination of only having 128mb ram, and a 32mb integrated graphics card that uses system memory instead of having it's own.

 

i reckon more ram should stop it, but i'm not 100% sure on that

I have a problem with my new Logitech Cordless Mouseman, and I can't use the scrollwheel (for the weapons). It only works once when the game is started, then one of the next/prev buttons on the keyboard isn't working.  

 

I have all the newest updates and sh*t......any ideas??

Dude, good work... but I have a serious bunk problem...

my specs are P4 1.8, 256 ddr ram, radeon 8500 128 drr video card.

 

The game runs very smooth at 1024x(sum number) in 32 bit mode with high fps.  The problem is when I'm crusing around in my g-ride sometimes the streets textures don't draw and that chop of road looks like a sea of blue. And sometimes the sides of buildings and roads are drawn but they have no detail whatsoever.  And when you park in a sea of blue or area that has no texture detail and sit there for a couple seconds and then it switches to the pimpin detailed textures.  Its a real  big pain and if you could help me that would me wicked, thanks.

ok i braught gtaiii a few months ago installed it and went to play it, and it is almost unplayble. it is really jerky and slow, i turned off any program that was running and set it to 640x480.16. turned all the trails off the frame thing and everything that was on lol, still no luck. i am concerned because my specs are pretty much all a game could want.

Since april i have been trying to fix this problem, and still no luck, any surgestions?

Breakdalaw, i had the same problem. Still don't know what it is. It could be caused by Chefzpatch, if you had it installed, but still not sure. Also, i heard 3danalyzer was the problem, but i could run gta3 normally for some time without blurry textures and such, and i used 3danalyzer then.. try what hornetsuk suggested.

 

Zero, you probably mean if there's a new patch out yet, cuz i didn't know they were working on a new one..

 

The_Chosen, i have similar specs, just a little better actually,, but i got 25-30 fps with 3danalyzer and with your settings. I suggest you try some patches mentioned in the list, but i guess you aleady tried/use them. if not, that might be your chance.
