Not that I'm gunning for it (I'm gonna play them as they are released regardless) but do any of you think there will ever be a female main character in any GTA?

R* will never have a female protagonist.....

How F*cking gay. And your post ^ SUCKS NIGGA

What an intelligent post, it’s always nice with newcomers to this forum. R* Rocks you just got reported.

Back on topic: It could be fun with a female main character in a future DLC. But not for a whole game, it’s important the protagonist is someone you can relate too, and lets face it, GTA is mainly played by guys.

He may swear but unlike you he doesn't go around the forum insulting people and making racist remarks for no reason

Yeah, basically this.

Maybe if the protagonist is a female, she could be a hermaphrodite?

Though it is set it stone that R* won't have it; I am personally not against it, and given the choice between the two I would probably play as a female character. SR2 did it in where you could choose but that's a different story, cause that character was a blank slate but whatever, I'll be happy either-way.

Just curious as to why people are always so offended when it comes to playing as female games.

That's asking why there's lots of hate on a female protagonist. This one's asking if we think they'll ever be a female protagonist.

I'm willing to bet that there are more girls playing GTA games than Italian mobsters, and yet that has never been an issue.

You relate to the personality of the character, not character himself. The character's background is there just to drive the story. And the personality of the character can be molded into something you can relate to regardless of the gender. I'm sure if R* wanted to, they can pull it off.

As for the actual reasons to do this, I got only one. If I'm going to be staring at someone's ass for 50+ hours, it might as well be an ass that I can appreciate.

OMG, you just read my mind biggrin.gif

it would be a cool experience for a DLC, R* likes playing with minorities (black, italian, serbian, latin, east-asian....) so, why not?

the only problem about is the girlfriend/hooker's system

obliterate it completely or make the protag chick a lesbian?

Remove it, probably. There are as many male gamers that will be uncomfortable with female character making passes at males as with a lesbian character. Better just avoid topic of sex all together.

On that note, you are probably right. This would work much better as DLC mission pack, rather than the main game. Still, would be interesting to see what R* would do with that.

But that defeats the point, and it gets confusing - to quote one of GTA IVs radio stations.

"I talk to a girl, I like the girl, I see the girls penis. I'm confused."

Branching off on to the sex topic, I don't see why you couldn't define the sexuality of the character yourself.

Lesbian, bisexual or heterosexual. It doesn't have to be an explicit option but rather a background variable. If no sexuality is defined then the game should avoid any sexual connotations etc. If you've chosen to date females then you are defined as lesbian, males you're heterosexual or if you've dated both - obviously bisexual. One of the earlier missions could introduce you to the dating scenario and ask you to choose a date for something like a double date. It's a bit cheesy and doesn't tie in to well on it's own but it's a standalone thing that allows the game to define your sexuality preference.

It's just a thought.

The only good way to allow player to develop sexuality of the character is through dialog options, and I'm not sure that's such a good idea for GTA.

Being a guy is a big part of my identity, I could not imagine myself as a girl, at least not for more then 20 missions. Ones gender means a lot, there’s more too the whole Girl/guy thing then the sexuality, many of your opinions, habits and behaviors is decided by your gender.

It might be a cliché, But I/guys in general have no idea how women’s work, Why they have long hair, why they can’t just say things straight out, or why the they whispers instead of talking like normal human beings/Men.

So it'd be just like playing a schizophrenic character. Don't know why you do the things you do, you just do. tounge.gif

I know some girls that would break your jaw with a right hook for saying this.

And a really good thought, too. It's just that it wouldn't work for GTA, as the franchise is known to have their own memorable characters. I mean, I have it in my mind and all, but I can't just put it in correct words.

major underscore

Yes, I think there will be a female GTA protagonist, at least some time in the next five years, probably as a DLC/expansion protagonist. R* have been trying to work different angles when it comes to protagonists and going with a female protagonist some time soon just makes a lot of sense. Personally I'm all for it as long as R* can come up with an interesting story for such a character, and we know that they're good at that from their previous games.

So, I wouldn't mind playing as Catalina. That would prove to be interesting..

But on Saints Row, as someone pointed out, you could tell that was not meant for a female protagonist. If you have played through it, you would notice, she walks like a guy, talks like a guy... Pretty much is a guy...

I, for one, wouldn't mind playing as one, given that it's done right. As others have stated though, GTA is known for it's prostitute abuse.. I myself would feel uncomfortable sitting through a strip scene including male dancers, or sitting in a car with a male prostitute.. I honestly don't think that it would be a good idea to make the main story line about a female.

DLC, as others have stated, is the best route to take.

They have a DLC for GTA: next where you play as a female to try it out. I'm fairly positive though she would turn out to be boring or a huge titted badass.

Yes, but with Tommy's sounds. That's nothing compared to having a full-developed and well-animated female.

It would be so unrealistic and corny! Hearing her shout sassy bullsh*t at cops and pedestrians...leave that crap to other games.
