Create a Character

I would like to be able to create a character for GTA V. They could make it something like Saints row. Same storyline but different voices, races, genders, etc... I like they way they have been doing it, but I'm tired of people complaining about how R* needs to make a Female character or a different race of a character. We should be able to make our own. So there are no more arguments.

Not again!

The protagonist is the most important thing in the series. If Rockstar made total character Customization, they would ruin the game. Just look at SR. Things like the dialect, looks, nationality, family and even clothes in some cases, means a lot (if not everything) to the story. Wouldn’t it be odd if Niko was Indian and talked like a Latino, and his close cousin would be a Serb. Or that random guy on the street called you a dirty Russian, when you looked like Fidel Castro , and not even a little like a Russian.

The great thing about GTA, since Vice City, is the protagonist and the city, you really want to ruin halve of the game because you dislike Luis hair cut, or Nikos nose.

I guess it sounds OK, but I think would ruin the GTA atmosphere.

Well if it ruins the atmosphere, then it isn’t OK!

No. That's the main reason Saint's Row sucked, we didn't know about our past. No, and again no. Play Saint's Row if you want that.

No, no and no!!! Create-a-character mode would ruin GTA! All the games, where you can make a character seem to me so stupid and pointless. Story would be sh*t then.

Not Volt Krueger

Hell no. I wouldn't complain if some features from SR appeared (most of which they stole from SA, so maybe I should have just said features from SA), but making your own character would destroy everything that sets GTA above SR.

A saying goes Christmas is for the kids, New Years is for the adults. Well it's kind of like that in this situation too. Saints Row is for the kids, Grand Theft Auto is for the more mature and developed audience.

It goes to show too, I've played both. SR online is a babbling of 11 year old boys that sound like 12 year old girls. GTA online is a babbling of 16 year old boys that sound like 13 year old girls and rednecks.

I want to keep the system where it's at.

Wanted Assailant

Story would be sh*t. This would've been okay back in GTA III but now GTA is way too much mature to do something like this. The storylines actually mean something, you can even connect to the characters.

Unless the CREATE-A-CHARACTER has a good past and background, it wouldn't work. It would just be Claude again.

Unless... You can choose what background or past connections you have.

I still wouldn't like it. Yeah, it could work, but it wouldn't fit GTA. Still an idea, though.

Id rather play as a character i dont relate to but atleast has a decent background story than a player-created model with no personality

This idea has been mulling around in my head for a bit, but I think we could actually have a "create a character" that works and has a strong background. How? We use the Mass Effect system. Give the character a last name or a nickname that everybody refers to him/her by. Give the character a background that isn't specific to gender. That shouldn't be too hard to do. All of the characters we've had in the past could easily be either male or female.

With this system, other characters can still call the character by name, we can still have a very strong character to get attached to. Saints Row is not the way to go though. I enjoyed the game, I admit it, but the story was absolute garbage and the character was just lifeless. GTA rides on the story of the main character.

I don't see it happening any time soon, but that's the only way I could ever see GTA having user created characters.

i dont see how they can create a last name or whatever that suits every nationality or enthnic group

"Shepard" has got to be the worst last name ive ever heared

I never said the character would be able to have any nationality. My solution is a partial one, at best. But it mostly solves the gender issue. However, say the character was a British character. Skin color alone does not determine your nationality. You could make a black Brit, a brown Brit, etc... I'm not in favor of 100% customization. We don't need to be able to choose voices or how the character walks or fights or half the sh*t Saints Row included. Keep the customization aesthetic. Give the character a male voice and a female voice, and let the user determine the looks.

Now, this wouldn't work in all cases. Say we had a middle-eastern character. We'd more or less be restricted from choosing skin color, but my method would seem to work with a character from most countries.

That is very true. I have a feeling that if GTA ever does include a "create a character" feature, there's going to be a lot of bitching because it's not everything everybody wanted. Frankly, I'd rather not waste my time creating a character and just have R* give me a strong character with a backstory.

What about all those times Packie is warning Niko abut sleeping with Kate?

I think strict non-natural appearance should be customizable. What I mean by this is, the character should have a set physical appearance in terms of skin color/face/body/etc, so then the only things you should be able to customize are hair/clothing/or anything non-natural that we customize in real life.

Yes, customizing a character from the ground up is fun, but I would argue that a set character like in GTA games provides more depth. Characters that you build completely should be restricted to RPG's, otherwise GTA loses its unique quality of having unique characters.

I forgot to bring that part up. Rockstar has addressed it in the past with Bully. Being able to have homosexual relationships, I mean. And they're definitely not uncomfortable about showing them in their games. So I don't think it would be entirely unrealistic to just put several characters into the game, of both sexes, that the character can date regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
