Police AI

Although were used to suicidal police AI from GTA1, the increasing realism in the series is in dire need of covering police AI as well. In the real world, police chases are often relatively boring affairs, tailing suspects from afar while leaving the real chasing to helicopters. If the opportunity arises, the use of boxing may be employed. In more rural settings, when such air cover is not available, the police are more inclined to chase suspects and go as far as 'PIT' them.

Being a game however, and one that is supposed to be entertaining - a medium needs to be found between reckless police ramming and the more realistic 'hanging back and waiting ' approach used in real life.

'Line of sight' AI is not employed in the series as of now. This desperately needs to be changed - the 'radar' in the HUD needs to be dropped and more emphasis needs to be placed on the players skill in driving and changing cars. I feel the next GTA will just be a pretty, dumb blonde of a game without the requisite improvements in AI.

I always loved it in San Andreas when you could watch the police chase down a civilian for doing a crime. I rarely saw that on IV. Also I would like it if the police saw someone hitting you they would get charged or chased down as much as you would.

I always see people getting chased by police in IV. As for cops not chasing people who hit you, try get someone to chase you, run in front of a police car and let them punch you, the cops will then react, and then either arrest them or kill them.

What I tend to do is, punch someone withough a Police officer seeing, then leading the guy you punched in view of a police officer, letting them hit you and then letting a police officer chase them down and make an arrest. Its always the same though "Where did you get those stolen credit cards?" R* should have come up with some better ones notify.gif

I completely agree, more realistic AI so it actually boxes you up, pit menouvres you and doesn't act like someone who doesn't know how to drive properly when you hit a backalley. Also, the cops should go from their stations to intercept you, and thats where they should be dispatched from not suddenly spawn right in front of you, which is completely rediculous (Xbox 360). The police should be revamped to a whole new level; different police vehicles should be used in chases such as something similar to the Police Stinger for high speed pursuits on highways and other, the cruiser for patrols and more sophisticated vehicles to match areas. I don't think ever a SWAT van would be on open pursuit chasing an armed suspect. NOOSE should only show up when there is a barricaded situation or when the suspect is in a facility, like in real life. The higher the wanted level the more authorities vehicles come into play, an APC as a roadblock, fast FBI vehicles both 4WD, pursuit and undercover on 5 star, 6 star would be military Special Forces, aka Counter-Terrorist forces. The police officers themselves on the lowest of ranks (as said, the police should be categorised in order of rank in importance), should pre-plan. The computer should think forwards and lay spike strips to the possible route that you are going, flanked with police cars, sophisticated roadblocks that include police vehicles and proper roadblocks including concrete and other material substances.

The Police need a whole new revolution, and I hope they do it because it desperately needs it.

What I really can't stand in IV is that I can't help the cops out. If I see the police giving chase to someone, I should be able to go push the suspect down and get thanked by the police. Instead, the police disregard the suspect when I try to step in and they attack me.

I believe it was in Need For Speed Most Wanted where the cops would use the pit maneuver on you. They spun me out quite a few times and it was pretty cool in that game.
