If it has any relevance to the setting and plot, I'll say it depends on the setting and plot. If not, I don't really give a hoot. Although, things might get a bit odd if it turns out like "hello, I'm a Native American who is in, you know, London or something for no apparent reason."

mind you, i think all GTA protagonists have been cool and likeable, so it really doesnt bother me (jamaican like little jacob would also be cool. although i wouldnt like something like arab or indian-im not sure something like that would work)

All GTA III era games featured all-american protagonists. (GTA III: Claude, GTA VC: Tommy Vercetti, GTA SA: CJ, GTA LCS: Toni Cipriani, GTA VCS: Victor Vance)

 

The GTA IV era till now features actors from all sort things. (GTA IV: Niko Bellic (Eastern Europe) 2DLC (American and Dominican) (Born in LC), GTA CW: Huang Lee (Probably Chinese)

 

Another Asian dude in a major GTA game is possible. But Native American is also possible. lol. Very much is possible.

 

I honestly think the next protagonist will be British or something. Would be kind of cool.

Actually though, white. In Japanese company games the majority of characters are white, and that's because the world is sort of white-dominated. Especially America, which is where GTA is set. The only times i would want a colored protagonist is if the theme was Street Gangs (or else you just look like a wigger) or Mafia, because when people think mobster, they think italian.

 

Besides, not all the oldschool protags have been white. Wasn't the VC guy italian? Then in SA you were black. So it's not just the new gen GTA's that are switching up race, race just depends on what they do.

Yeah, Rockstar always tries to make very different protagonists. They never did bikers, Eastern-Europeans or Latinos, so that's why they used those in the IV era. Tommy Vercetti and Toni Cipriani are much alike though, like CJ and Vic, but their personalities were totally different. CJ was the more gangster black guy, while Vic was just some army guy.

I voted white, that doesn't go to say that I'm a moonshine swilling KKK supporting red-neck from Texas.

To be honest I couldn't care less but with white guys I feel slightly more happy with in GTA as I can relate to them more easily. But really this accounts for like 0.0000001% of character depth. For me its all about player background story, attitude, language, etc.

I'd like to see a south-western GTA with an American Indian lead character. But an Asian Yakuza, or Triad gang story would be cool, too.

Nothing really matters to me.

 

Unless the protagonist in question has specific affliations to a certain gang. But if he's just a random criminal not really into anything else than his own stuff, than I don't care. (Although I voted Arab because that's the only race that would be interesting even if not in a gang. There is some tention between the Arab world and the western world, so there would be a lot of prejudices, assuming that it takes place in the west).

What do I vote if I want the next protagonist to be of mixed "races"? Or if I want the next protagonist to be a black Asian whose ancestors came from India?

 

Or if I want the protagonist's ancestors to have been Indians who moved to Africa? Should I then vote for Asian? Indian? Black? African American (not an option btw)?

I voted for white, but Native-American sounds cool too - hopefully, we will see deserts and woods.

 

Although ethnicity plays a little part of the game's acceptance - you can have a white character and have a crap game like IV or have a black character and have a great game like SA.

Why dont Rockstar base the story and characters on a non race specific group of criminals ie not the mafia, not the irish mob, not black gangstas, not essays and instead base it on a diverse group of specialised criminals like master thiefs or an assasins guild or con artists or maybe a group of escaped convicts. if they made the lead character a migrant to the city with no family ties then surely it would be possible to chose your own ethnicity all it would take is for Rockstar to program multiple options for the characters accent 7 or 8 different ones would do.

I hate every idea you proposed there, and the giant run-on sentences posing as paragraphs didn't sit well with me either.

 

I can't give you a statistical reason why multiple voice options and fat balding Italians would be a bad idea, but it just would. It would be hard to choose the right voice, you wouldn't have a good sense of your characters personality throughout the story, and the Italians is just a bummer.

 

Given the evidence of your ideas and your grammar, i'm pretty sure you're about 12 years old. At that age, you shouldnt even be playing GTA. Let alone making suggestions about the next game.

I'm not saying you should be 18 to play a GTA. But picking up prostitutes and going on killing sprees seems a little mature for some kid not even in highschool. Even if he plays the game, at least leave the suggestions and speculation to people with higher than a grade 6 spelling education.

 

Course i'm not one to talk, I was playing III/VC on my dads computer back when i was 9. But i've always been a practical person, so it probably didn't have the influence on me that it had on others.

I'm not some egotistical computer jockey, but with an idea that retarded and in the form it was in, everybody is "better" than that kid. I am, you are, anybody who can construct a basic sentence is technically better than him in that catagory. Then to top things off the idea was stupid too.

The point is that, just because you've said "Oh, we're only better than him in this category." although I agree in the sense that everyone has their skills and such (ie: a someone who's shocking at maths is spectacular at novel writing etc.), it still doesn't disregard what I said about you saying "I'm better than you so go away," because that is certainly what it sounded like you said.

I voted white - but with that said it all depends on the location the game is set. With the exception of GTA IV, all games have had the ethnicity to suit the location. i.e; In San Andreas the game was set mostly in the ghetto of Los Santos which has a primarely black population. If the next game is set in America then a white protagonist is the ethnicity I beleive we'll see.
