AnthMUFC-Champs
Why is there a "V" in the GTA Next title i know it means five and that could be the next GTA but they wont go to five yet surely not. They usually only do this when a new next gen console comes out and GTA " is the only game not to have other games in its canon. Also it has not been confirmed about the next one being called "V" although it could be possable and I'm just wondering.
W1ckeD-
Hmm and it's blue. A hint?
Jabalous
Exactly . Rockstar starts a new number with a new era . All GTAs that will release on the current generation will be within the IV's era . The concept of era in GTA games is a totally new story and a totally new technology . Claiming that the next GTA is the fifth installment of the franchise is a claim from a non-professional GTA gamer .
W1ckeD-
It can be a small hint to the "Next-Name" people thought Vice City was 4 in the begin. GTA III ---> 4"WorkName" --> Vice City. So maybe now Blue V ---> "New Name".

Matty
On the GTA-NeXt/V website, it does state that GTA:V is what they BELEIVE the next GTA will be called. It doesn't necessarely mean that it will be the name of the next GTA, it's purely speculation. Also, I agree. The next GTA won't specifically be called "GTA V" but the fans are using "GTA V" as a placeholder name. @MUFC-champs: I think he was referring to the time after the release of GTA III that fans predicted that the sequal then (Vice City) would be named "GTA4" but it wasn't, he is saying that the blue "V" (five) could represent a new name for the next GTA game. Exactly this. It's a placeholder, but the fact it changed from neXt to a blue "V" could mean something, or it could mean nothing. Your choice. Algonquin Assassin
Remember GTA 1, and 2 were on the same generation, so the number placement doesn't necessarily indicate new generations. I wasn't here before Vice City came out, but I would imagine alot of people would've referred to it as GTA 4 before the name "Vice City" was officially announced. GTA V is just a working title for the time being. Edited January 23, 2010 by Miamivicecity
Cheat
Well, GTA III was followed with Vice City and San Andreas which were a part of the III era. Once again GTA IV started the IV era which was followed with EFLC, but since TBoGT finished that era I'm pretty sure the next one will be a V. If someone wants some conspiracy theories they can stuck a V in their ass and see how they feel but a V is not a clue. You know, not everything has to be one? AnthMUFC-Champs
Yes and the way TBOGT finished has made me now think that the next GTA is in fact going to be called "GTA V" because when the plane leaves the runway at the end look at the actual runnway and yiu will see the "V" sign meaning the next GTA is in fact going to be called "GTA V". Also on the plane tail it has a date and the intitials L J K which could hint to the setting if you ut them together it reads LJK which looks like UK but who knows. At 13:30 you will see the "V":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGOiJCufj1c
W1ckeD-
Now this is some great speculation, instead of; "My shoe size is 46 and I'm a GTA fan, and 46 is the number of a car in Vice City, so it will be Vice City." Fun to see the V there.

adamcs
It's a guess, but it's an educated guess. After GTA III, Rockstar were bringing out new GTA games every 1-2 years. Vice City came out a year after GTA III, and San Andreas came 2 years after Vice City. If they gave each game a new number, then before you know it we'd have GTA 10 (and that's bad, because large numbers are vivid reminders that something's been done a million times). I don't think this matters anymore though. The new games take much longer to create due to the scale of them and the resolution of the textures etc, so they will have no problem calling it GTA 5. Here's another problem: if they called it "GTA: Place Name" there's a potential to confuse it with the GTA IV DLC. Some people may even confuse it with the GTA III era. For diehard GTA fans like you and I that's obviously not a problem, but a lot of GTA fans aren't as informed as you and I. "GTA V" / "GTA 5" makes it very clear to customers that this is a new game. Exactly, here in my store people think that The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned are complete new GTA Games. So I have to tell 'em that they are DLC's. With a 5 behind it it's a complete new game, I love the blue glow.

maxopower
Where’s all the smart participators of this forum. I’m shocked, how can you actual think that the IV canon is over, so many incomplete stories need a end before IV can finish. Changing the name to “GTAV” is the worst thing to happen to this forum since Mortal Human.

V would be the start of a new generation, and they can’t just persist with the charters and stories from IV. This is all pretty simple, and shouldn’t be too hard to understand. So many stories unfinished with the GTA III era, which didn´t continue in GTA IV. Now you are saying they HAVE to continue within the IV era? They can, but don't put it there like a fact. K^2
Of course they can call it GTAV. But it would be extremely silly. They can milk current tech for more money, and without completely new engine, there is no reason for a new number. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

I see this on a daily basis, I work at a Game Store, the NOT GTA fans but the: "Yeah I like to play it" gamers don't know all the stuff we know. If they would name it GTA: "Vice Andreas" they would get confused, it sounds silly for you but see it from a costumer stand point rather than a hardcore GTA fan.
