[REL|ALPHA] GTA3/VC R* movie menu

After a day out debugging and reading more assembly code than I'd like, I'm proud to present an initial working-ish version of the well-known hidden movie menu in GTA3 or Vice City. It's not fully completed, and needs an XInput-compatible gamepad (Xbox 360 controller, Sixaxis/DS3 with motioninjoy drivers, or the XInput emulator; I'm too lazy to make it use DInput tounge.gif )

 

Requirements

 

- GTA3/VC (1.0 only, possibly. don't know which version GTA3 I have, but VC is surely 1.0)

- .NET Framework 2.0/Visual C++ 2008 redistributable (usual yada-yada)

- A gamepad suitable for usual playing of GTA, supporting XInput... or

- same as above, but with the Xbox 360 Controller Emulator by Racer_S

- luck smile.gif

 

How to use

 

Copy the .asi for the game you want to use in the game folder, start the game and press F11 (need to press it very shortly, or it'll jump back).

 

The menu controls haven't been fully figured out, but I at least know the following:

 

D-Pad Up/Down: move the menu

Y: Select a menu option/confirm

Do the menu options actually function? I don't have vc or 3 installed, nor do I have the controller input requirements to test it.

 

If the menu options are functional, can you post some more pics or a video of it in action?

Awesome work NTAuthority. Do the play load and save movie options actually work?

They read/write a data\movie.dat, though the play option is a bit picky about camera locations and I haven't figured out how to set them correctly. tounge.gif

Is it binary, or text? Could you upload a sample?

 

Could you elaborate on the xinput hack a bit more? Installing 3/vc isn't really an issue, but the controller is. There isn't any way to enable the menu and use it just with a keyboard?

It's a non-text file format, and sure.

Well, I use XInput since it firstly doesn't need any configuration with different button numbers by the application developer, and secondly because it can easily directly map to the internal CControllerState structures. It would be possible to make it use the keyboard, but it'd a) be illogical and b) not able to use the analog 'left stick' axis. I could also have patched the code to use the first CPad instead of the second one, but GTA3/VC for PC do not map the D-Pad values to any key (only SA did that, with G, H, Y and N by default) -- and I already had a lot of code lying around for reading/writing CControllerStates - most of the code is all copied from a SA mod of mine with wrapper stuff added. smile.gif

 

What's the issue with the XInput requirement? If you have a controller which can map to the required keys, why don't you use the wrapper xinput1_3.dll?

 

(or if not, just hack that wrapper to read keyboard data - it's open source tounge.gif )

if i put the files in the folder the game doesnt works :'(

i tried it, first it worked, but now after the intro the game exits to windows

This mod is awesome, it's like San An Studios for GTA SA and Vice Studios for GTA VC : A great mod to make movies in GTA III smile.gif

 

EDIT : It doesn't work, i start my game, but when it comes to the menu, it crashes sad.gif

I don't have a gamepad or something like that, and i really wanna have this mod working sad.gif

By hidden, you mean it was actually already in the game? Wow, so is this what Rockstar really use for all the trailers and videos? That's pretty cool.

This is like a sandbox mode for GTA3/VC.

Damnit I cant get it to work, I see the menu but i cant select anything or move though it, I'm suing a sixaxis Ps3 controller which works fine on normal gameplay, any ideas?

In the MotionInJoy drivers which you likely use, you should select the 'Xbox 360 Controller' mode for the pad to work within this menu. wink.gif
