Tornado Rex
Firefox 3.6 was just released. Here's what Mozilla put as the main release notes. Support for a new type of theme called Personas, which allow users to change Firefox's appearance with a single click. Protection from out-of-date plugins to keep users safer as they browse. Open, native video can now be displayed full screen and supports poster frames. Improved JavaScript performance, overall browser responsiveness, and startup time. The ability for web developers to indicate that scripts should run asynchronously to speed up page load times. Continued support for downloadable web fonts using the new WOFF font format. Support for new CSS attributes such as gradients, background sizing, and pointer events. Support for new DOM and HTML5 specifications including the Drag & Drop API and the File API, which allow for more interactive web pages. Changes to how third-party software can integrate with Firefox in order to prevent crashes. I find the Personas actually kind of cool. Makes using the default theme a little better anyway. There's no way to use them with third party themes though, which is fine IMO. It looks like most of the changes were under the hood though. I just installed it about 10 minutes ago so I haven't really had a chance to notice if it's any more snappy or anything. We shall find out over the next few days though. http://www.mozilla.com to install (or just update from within the browser). ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Slamman
I wish their cache access would be more like Internet Explorer, I can change the views so all the file types match, making it easier to sort the cache by file type! To get all the large files on the top in Firefox, instead of somewhere scattered among a major list would be nice!! I'm on F-Fox right now in fact. Andrew
Been running the Beta for the last month or so at home and work, and I must say it is a huge improvement in terms of memory usage and stability over the previous version.

That's always great to hear, since it's one of the few weak points of the browser.

oc student
I don't know about you guys, but Firefox is just as laggy, if not worst then Internet Explorer 8. I'd use Google Chrome if it had support for add ons, but sadly that'll never happen.

Tornado Rex
A) Why would you want Norton B) Why, if you actually do want Norton, would you possibly have use for a toolbar from them. I'm seriously wondering. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~

Slamman
Love it! Just slapped on the STAR TREK Persona. Mikey! You mentioned beta testing for IE9, have you any thoughts on comparing that with the other browsers?? I am way-curious. I like the new IE, well, IE8 updated. The tabbing is quite nice to have, and of course the competition spurred MS on to overhaul it. As I mentioned, saving Flash files from cache is something I do constantly and with MS' IE, I know once a stream loads online, it's in the cache to be found, with Firefox, it's a total crap shoot for me

There's no reason for them to be out there writing their own engine when there's two perfectly good rendering engines out there. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Slamman
...all those people working at MS, that's likely why?
Tornado Rex
...all those people working at MS, that's likely why? Yet their engine still sucks. Why don't they work less on a proprietary engine (thereby making web coding that much harder) and spend more time on browser features or something. They could even start releasing .5 versions or something. It took them how many years after Firefox to came out just to get tabs in their browser? For "all those people working [there]" as you said, they sure do turn out a pretty mediocre browser. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~

copperwire93
Still on 3.5 version since my favourite add-ons are not compatible with 3.6. I kept getting crash issues after v3.3 though when downloading, hopefully the add-ons will be updated for new version and crashing issues fixed. Campo.
Anyone else hate how the tabs work like chrome now? Ie. whenever you open a new tab on the current page with tabs already opened next to the current one, that the tab opens right next to the current tabbed window? Instead of at the end of the tab "queue"? Found out how to fix it: Type in about:config in your address bar, then accept the stupid warning Then type in browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent and hit enter Right click on browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent and click toggle This should now say False next to it Other than that, 3.6 rocks. james227uk
I didn't need to do that. My tabs already open at the end of the queue

For "all those people working [there]" as you said, they sure do turn out a pretty mediocre browser. It always confused me that IE has the largest amount of funding behind it yet it's constantly one of the worst browsers of the bunch. Makes me wonder what the hell the dev team spend their time and money on. I've been running the 3.6 beta for a little bit now, all the new things are welcome improvements to an already great browser. As for the tab opening, I like it Chrome style, if I have tons of tabs open and I want to read something, I'd otherwise have to move all the way to the end of the queue to open it. Wish they could do something about the startup time and CPU usage under OS X though. A lot of the time it hogs 10 or 20% just sitting with a blank window open. @Arc: Yeah, all your addons will stay installed. Some might not be compatible yet, but all the popular ones get updated in time so most things still work.

james227uk
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w265/ja...7uk/persona.png Quite crap, huh? I tried to use the default logo but I couldn't because of the background Didn't really spend any time or effort on it. It's my first Persona and I only bothered to try and make one since I read your post, Waddy n the topic of personas: Some quite interesting designs out there, I'm using quite a dark one at the moment and it has the firefox logo.
