Beginners Guide, Multiplayer

Recommended Posts

Hi all GTA Pros

I'm totally new to GTA4 (PS3) but I just love it! tounge.gif

However in the multiplayer (starting with Deathmatch) mode I would like to know how everything works. dozingoff.gif

Like for instance -what all the settings mean (what is blips on?) What moves I can make etc etc......!!!!???

The manual or the tutorial doesn't reveal too much if you get what I mean! confused.gif

I haven't been able to Google any sort of help about this yet!

Just a guide that explain every button (Combination) you can press to do all the different things that are possible to do!

It's a bit frustrating when you only last a maximum of 20-30 seconds before you are blown to dust by someone you haven't even noticed!

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

If you're a beginner, I don't think you should start in Deathmatch if you don't know what you're doing. I'd recommend screwing around in FM for a while because it usually turns into a DM anyway, and you have nothing to lose. Learn your way around there, however blips settings don't work on FM.

blips is like the stuff on your mini-map the dots mean players and there will be like pics of like shotguns and other weapons that means or shows you where the ammo and guns are (diff icons mean diff guns)

so blips on includes everything on the minimap (not the stores and stuff on single player) and blips players only means that it only shows the players

blips far means only blips that are far away from your position appear.

and tips on DM are look at the map look for players near you may make you look like a "gps-gangster" but whats wrong with that as long as you are not camping

Use your surroundings especially in an auto-aim match press r1 to hide behind a pillar or something then aim and it will lock on the the next player then shoot away.

Get strapped: Get well equiped with armor health and ammo ( get an M4 aka M16) for better accuracy and range

I agree with starting in FM. The stakes arent as high. Or only join games with lower rank players. You have definatley come to the right forum if your looking for answers or help. It all depends on how you like to play, if your a sniper, pilot, racer etc..

Wow Thanks -good people! biggrin.gif

So from your answers I understand that there probably ain't NO thorough guide that shows everything you can do?

Anyway it's a great (multiplayer) game and I just love meeting people from all across the world, and kill them! ! ! mercie_blink.gif

"Only join games with lower rank players" Now How do I do that ? ? ?

once you enter the "room" where the host is choosing his options check to see what rank the others are. Avoid playing deathmatch etc against rank 7-10, and be aware that some of the lower ranks are "second timers" who have achieved rank 10 and started a new psn user. Generally playing a game with rank 0-4or5 is a good start.Playing with 4 or 5 rank 8 or plus means a reaming.

Wow

Thanks everybody for the great info !

I guess this is THE forum to get what I need for all the best GTA info!

Looking forward in the near future to see you on line.........and KILL you! devil.gif

When I started playing online I had trouble because many people were so much better than me. I found that playing Mafia Work and Team Mafia work was easier because the focus of the game wasn't just killing each other it was better to complete the missions instead. You will still get killed, but the focus isn't on you nearly as much.

The basic goal in MW/TMW is you get calls from Petrovich, one of the mafia gangs, and you have to complete the missions for him. Some are just killing someone, destroying something. Those are marked red. The other missions are collecting things or people and taking them to where ever they need to go. These are usually marked in blue. This is a general overview, there's a lot more to it, but that's the basics.

If you're having trouble in the DM, try these instead.

I disagree with this one completely...

While some rank 9 - 10 players are ruthless and wont give u a second to think/react, there is no better way to improve but to play these very ppl (assuming you have gotten the basics down in FM like others suggested).

They will piss you off to no end, but you WILL get better faster! icon14.gif

Just my 2-cents.

If I was you I'd play the story mode to the end as basic training. Then you need to learn how to shoot well with auto aim as most games tend to have that setting, so do a few deathmatches and fight the police in single player mode (using cheats for ammo and health works well for this). Then practise manual aim cause it's more fun. Get used to driving cars, throwing cooked grenades out of the window and shooting backwards. So you'll learn how to defend yourself on foot and on the road. If you want to be a real *sshole, learn to shoot with the annihilator, but be aware it takes a hell of a lot of practice so it might not be worth it since the game seems to be losing popularity now.

The good news is there's a hell of a lot of fun things you can do in this game and the city is so big that there are always new things to explore.

What I did was play through storymode using disallow. That will better prepare you for MP.

Skrew AA it's for noobs. Play using disallow. Although AA is like training wheels and can be used to get a feel for the game. IMO The more time you spend practicing free aim, the better off you'll be. AA is a waste of time. confused.gif

OK I think I've learnt a few things the last couple of days (and nights) and one is how they could kill me without I saw them!

I noticed if I see someone only on the radar and aiming in that direction (without seeing anyone) all of a sudden the reticule increase in size (and indicates a target) and that's how the better players had put me down several times.

Now -this tip I haven't seen anywhere so it's (was sigh.gif ) probably sort of a "GTA secret" I guess! tounge.gif

Thanks again everybody for your time!

As soon as you see the redicule increase in size you should be firing rather you see them or not. It means you got the shot. Tap rather than holding the fire button.

Some play with reticule off for even further difficulty. Not exactly a "secret" turn.gif

we have played a few games together, mainly deathmatch and the tips and hints have definatly improved your game. Have you played with any other forum members? What would you say has been the most helpful hint?

Yes I have learnt a lot the past few days, thanks a lot!

I have played with a few other players too.

I guess Pressing R1 close to a wall or vehicle has saved me a lot of times lately.

One thing I noticed a couple of hours ago was that one guy seemed to move sideways in a rapid way (as he was shooting)!

I wonder how he did that?

The thing I got the most problem with at the moment is my fingers keep sliding of the L2 and R2 triggers, it's very frustrating! I bought the Gioteck Real Triggers and they worked really good, that's until I happened to drop the controller on the floor and they cracked so now I've ordered two more sets of them and I cant wait to get them!

I think the original controller is designed totally unergonomic and I much prefer the XBOX controller who doesn't expose the triggers as the PS3 version does!

Gotta go practice some more before bedtime! Se ya alien.gif

My guess is he Taps really fast or was using a Turbo Controller

Yeah slippidge is a bit of a problem with the PS3 controller. are the Giotech real triggers pretty good?. hadn't heard of them til now, but they look like a good idea. wonder how many people use them.

From what I've seen your getting better and better everyday, and theres so much to learn. I have been playing for a while now and I'm still learning stuff.

Giotech real triggers are really really good and I can highly recommend them!

The only thing you have to be careful with is that to not drop the controller on the floor like I've done. They break easily

Apart from that they are great also for racing games!

I ordered them from an EBay shop called shoppersavenue and they are cheap as well at only $3.49 US

Check out this vid ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSyKpiIcyWk...player_embedded

Thanks for the compliment. I understand its possible to become really good at this game cause some players can kill you easily and even if I have emptied a couple of mags some guys have the skills to finish me off with a few shots.

The strangest thing is why some guys don't drop dead when I'm using auto aim (close range) and moving like from top (head) to middle (guts) all the time without anything happening ! ! ? ? That is SOOOOOOOO frustrating. So I gotta keep practicing and hopefully get better!

Yeah before ever hearing about the real triggers, I seen them in Hollywood Video™ (movie rental store) When I went back to buy them a few days later, they were sold out (there was only two there) I never got around to picking up a pair after that. But I think I'm gonna go get some, when I come back to PS3.
