Its Here! The GTA IV REAL RECORDED GUNSOUNDS pack

This is the age old debate about "Hollywood" fx and "real" sounds.

Guns don't fire as extremely superb bass boom EQ like they have in Hollywood its all processed. As R* base GTA on Hollywood style game play and stories its not hard to realise that add some over processing of all guns to match that Hollywood effect that we all like to have for this type of action.

I haven't installed yet but the you-tube video (ignoring that the recording for you-tube will take some quality away) all sound like "Now that's a recording from a gun raw" ... which is effect what you want for more "realism".

Its been said already people are too used to "Hollywood" that listening to weapons raw recorded sounds lesser or bad. Its like looking at a photo shopped image all toned and fancy compared to the original un filtered version, sound is the same. So those used to only seeing photo shopped images will think its lesser to see unfiltered or "crap", much like Hollywood process fx and raw recorded originals.

So the point is, if you like Hollywood stick with original R* .. if you want less Hollywood and raw close to realism guns that you would hear if fired near you in a street (god forbid) then install this.

I agree and you make true points! So what are ya waiting on? lol install it.. its still got the realistic crisp but its far better quality than the youtube vid

Hey jclewis what changes are you making for the upcoming version?

im working to create more realistic distant gunsound effects... still looking for any suggestions from anyone that may know how to decrease the range at which distant gunsounds are heard.. and also louder volume on the sounds in this mod

New Weapon effects soon!

Looking forward to the update. Though I love the originals, I think they would be just a tad bit better with a bit more bass, if possible.

Haints would you like to be part of the sound design team?

I'm honored that you would ask me to be part of your sound design team. Unfortunately I have no actual modding skills--just the ability to appreciate great mods like this one. I'd be happy to keep giving feedback though.

This is quite nice, but just from the video i can tell it's not 100% correct, since the shooting sounds are longer than you actual shoot the gun.

And as well those are not the best recordings, there are some background click, clack sound from anything else than the weapons.

I prefer the GTA IV weapon sounds, i guess to Rockstar Games edited the recorded weapon sounds, but i'm pretty sure they used professional technique to record them, just like the sound technic guys from the NFS Developer teams do it, while they record engine sounds and exhaust blasts etc...

They don't record anything, the gunsounds are made from scratch by Rockstar.

How do you know that Rockstar doens't record real gun sounds and edited them? notify.gif

Everybody who's ever shot a gun knows that, especially those of us that have fired the guns in the game. Very few games ever record the actual guns, flashpoint, socom and a few other sim type games. No gta has ever used real gun sounds though.

The OP has provided a great service, sorry to all the guys who are let down to find out guns don't sound very cool, they're nothing like in the movies, and the muzzle flash is almost non existent in sunlight and lit rooms.

EDIT TO ADD: OP, great work on these gun sounds! Too bad I don't play on PC and can't enjoy you guys' great mods.

XP = "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\"

Vista = "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames"

is that what you're looking for?

You also have to backup the Xlive folder or your save won't work. Google is your friend—a quick search for "gta4 backup save" found these instructions: http://www.burnmind.com/games/how-to-backu...-iv-saved-games

I don't know why it wouldn't.. I have downloaded save games before (100% complete ones) simply cause I don't feel like restarting the game after I have to format or something.. and they work fine.

I suppose something might have changed since I transferred my save from Vista to W7, but at that time the save was tied to the Live account. So I had to backup both the save itself and the Live account for it to work. Maybe Xliveless removes this requirement?

You welcome! I wish you would in vest in a PC tho.. GTA IV is truly a different game on PC.. not only do i play with these sounds.. but i play in first person and have edited the weapons so that the bullets are more lethal like in reality.

He's right, with the right mods GTA4 can be a very different game... I've got a bunch of realism mods, including these weapon sounds, weapon damage, weapon textures, vehicle handling, traffic felonies, prison mod, first person, damage from car crashes, subway sounds & textures, etc. etc. Plus extra mission mods, graphics mods like ENB... The GTA4 mod community is truly a blessing.

man, I am using your mod and it is the best.

but one question, for those, like me, who like to change certain sound by myself, can't you put some info on which PCM numbers in WEAPONS.ivaud are for which weapon... because its really complicated for me to find it out, I only found glock and sniper rifle... i have huge custom CSS weapons collection with audio for each weapon collected for over 4 years of hard work. so I am thinking of to use some of those sounds for GTAIV.

jclewis, they snd pretty good, proly better sound equipment/equalizer will give better experience, I've only tried them so far w/ monitor spkrs which suck! devil.gif

ANyways, I have EFLC and am doing some mission in TLAD and ofcourse it has other weapons like sweeper, automatic 9mm, sawn-off shotgun ..

What about sounds for those ?

I see several ppl making more authentic weapon models, have you considered doing a collaboration to put authentic sounds w/ these RL models and release as a package ?
