Goodfella.
Ultimate Spider-Man was good for about the first five arc's or so, then it went to utter sh*t with Carnage. As I said before I don't have any desire to see Pete go back to high school, I guess when my age surpassed that of the protagonist I found it really hard to identify with them. Consider me totally unhyped for this. All my hype shall be invested in The Avengers and the related films.
tuareg
Bendis? No f*cking way. The only thing that kept ultimate spider-man together was Bagley's artwork. I was never really hyped for this. Why start all over when they already had something to work with? With Bendis in the picture i've lost any remaining interest.
Don Garcia
So, uh, reboot Peter Parker has finally been cast. Ready? Andrew Garfield. Who? This guy: Yeah. And the guy is pretty old for a high school student, at 26 years of age. After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios. Today's confirmation culminates what has been one of the most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory. Bloggers, pop culture speculators, and everyday fans have pored over and analyzed every conceivable online rumor in an attempt to discover the identity of the next actor to play Peter Parker. Garfield will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role. The Spider-Man franchise is one of the most successful in film history and the three previous motion pictures have collectively grossed more than $2.5 billion in worldwide box office. On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, "Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker." Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures said, "Spider-Man is a classic superhero -- a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker." Producer Avi Arad added, "I'm incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future." Producer Laura Ziskin said, "We are thrilled to have Andrew Garfield for this new incarnation of Spider-Man under Marc Webb’s direction. We were fortunate enough to meet with a group of fantastically talented young men. In the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Andrew had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen." The selection of Garfield was revealed at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Garfield is fast becoming one of the most respected and sought-after young actors working in the industry today. In a short career, spanning only five years, he has already been directed by, and starred alongside, some of the greatest names and received a BAFTA for a role that won him international praise. Garfield most recently worked with director David Fincher on the upcoming film The Social Network. He previously starred for Spike Jonze on his robot love story I'm Here, which premiered at Sundance this year. He plays the lead male opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in Mark Romanek's Never Let Me Go, due for release later this year. Other notable screen credits include Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus playing opposite Christopher Plummer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and the late Heath Ledger, Robert Redford’s Lions For Lambs, where he starred alongside Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep; Revolution Films' "Red Riding Trilogy – 1974" directed by Julian Jarrold, where he lead a stellar cast including Rebecca Hall and David Morrissey, and his unforgettable portrayal of a young ex-con in John Crowley's "Boy A," for which he earned the best actor BAFTA in 2008. Garfield’s career began in theatre and in 2006 his performances in "Beautiful Thing" (Sound Space/Kit Productions), "The Overwhelming," and "Burn / Chatroom / Citizenship" (Royal National Theatre) won him the Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer at the Evening Standard awards and the Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer at the Critics Circle Theatre Awards. Other notable theatre credits include "Romeo and Juliet" (Manchester Royal Exchange) and "Kes" (Manchester Royal Exchange), for which he received the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Manchester Evening News Awards 2004. Interesting.

Vanilla Shake
Looks more like one of the jocks that would harass Peter in my opinion, but he does look young enough. TC718 / <629 / CF5
Otter
Looks good to me. However, I still think it's incredibly stupid that we're going to have to sit through another origin story when there's so much fun to be had yet with the character. Just frustrating. I can't wait to see what they do with the costume, however. It'd also be cool to see spidey pull off some of that Todd McFarlane agility. Don Garcia
Thar's our Pete. w/ director Marc Webb And over at Movie Line, there's a video of the announcement and his absolutely gobsmacked reaction to it. Yeah, he was making the rounds for his latest flick, The Social Network, a Sony film, and they just sprung it on him. Sweet surprise.... And if like me, you haven't seen any of this guy's work, this montage might inspire you to do so. I have been meaning to check out that Red Riding trilogy. Guy looks like he has way more acting chops than Tobey. Good, I never really bought Tobey being emotional.
Otter
More chops than Maguire? You've got to be kidding me. That guy has talent.
Don Garcia
Eh, never really cared for him as an actor, sorry. Not saying he's bad, but this guy looks like he can/most likely will eclipse him in that department.

I don't think we'll see the origin again, if anything I think they'll go kind of the route that the Incredible Hulk went, by quickly establishing it was different to the previous movies and have the character's hero persona up and running from the get go. I think this guy's a really good choice.

Don Garcia
Haha, that would be awesome. So, are we gonna be seeing the whole Green Goblin thing again? And what about Harry? They butter not fudge up the MJ casting.

They butter not fudge up the MJ casting. Anybody seen the latest series of Doctor Who? Everybody keeps raving about that ginger woman in the show...possible MJ? Then again they could have Gwen Stacy as the love interest, who knows. I can see why some people might be angry about this reboot but I'm still intrigued. Rockworm
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. One the one hand I don't think 3 was so terrible that we couldn't have 4... On the other a reboot has been nothing but great for Batman so I'm just in a wait and see mode.
Don Garcia
I wouldn't expect a Batman Begins. Don't do that. Webb has just one major motion picture to his name, so we really have no clue what to expect. Hopefully greatness.
Ottae
I don't see where he can go with it to be honest. It can't be really dark like what Nolan did with Batman begins because Spider-man hasn't got that feel about it. It's essentially about a kid who gets superpowers rather than a crime-ridden, corrupted city. Judging from (500)DoS, I'd imagine it'd go more towards the Kickass style comic book movie. More quirky than blockbustery. I hope anyway, I loved (500)DoS so I'm expecting good things. I rate Garfield as well, the guy's got talent. Don Garcia
Emma Stone has been cast, not as MJ, but as Gwen Stacy, the female lead in the upcoming Spider-Man film. It was rumored this week she would be cast as Mary Jane, which I was actually excited about, but no. She's Gwen. From director Marc Webb: "The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde." source Opposite our new Spidey:

Otter
What is it with them turning gorgeous redheads into blondes for this series? And choosing Kirsten Dunst as the real redhead? Hmm. Anyhow, I'm glad they're going the Gwen Stacy route.

Don Garcia
In case you didn't gather from pander's picture, actor Rhys Ifans has been cast in the villain role for the upcoming film. The Wrap is reporting that Ifans will be taking on the role of...The Lizard. Just look at him. Makes sense. I find the villain choice to be underwhelming, but we shall see. Don Garcia
Peter and Gwen smooching. Pete looks especially sad, check the fingerless gloves. Oh, and I guess it's confirmed now (?) but Martin Sheen is Uncle Ben and Sally Fields is Aunt May. Hot damn that's high-profile casting. And apparently there will be a proto-Goblin character played by Irrfan Khan.
Goodfella.
Garfield's enthusiasm when speaking about the role has me really convinced he'll be brilliant as Peter Parker.
