viometrix
it is your graphics card. the geforce 210 is not suited at all for gaming. also have 2 more gigs of ram wont hurt either. use a usb thumbstick 2gb for ready boost and get rid of your page file (assuming you run vista or 7). Deathlok
how do i disable the page file? sucks that u say that about the card, as ive only just purchased it and have no resources left to upgrade further, what i have is as good as its gonna get specwise (also Modern Warfare 2 runs like a dream on my gcard without any problems at all) Edited January 6, 2010 by Deathlok Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/437507-i-need-help-with-fps/#findComment-1059723569 Share on other sites

I can run MW2 at the highest settings and not get any lagg. FPS won't drop below 60. GTA IV runs here ate medium/low at 50FPS. Sucks, eh? Deathlok
if i could get GTA4 to run at an average of 25-35 fps i would be happy at the moment it runs at 10-20 fps in windowed mode 1280 x 800 (60 Hz) Texture Quality Medium Reflec Res Low Water Q Low Shadow Q Off Texture Filter Medium or Highest have no difference View Distance 21 Detail Distance 10 Shadow Density 0 Def On Vsync On AMD Fusion running Resource Usage 341/468 MB (totally green) ive tried all different combos and the only way i can get 35-40 fps is if i play at 800x600 and that sucks balls on my lcd widescreen monitor ive also tried the ultimate performance fix guide and it still runs at 10-15 fps using that method Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/437507-i-need-help-with-fps/#findComment-1059723620 Share on other sites
MonedoMief
Its because of your graphics card. it has the performance of an geforce 8600gt. if you want to play the game at higher settings you need a new graphics card. Deathlok
would either downgrading to windows xp or upgrading to windows 7 help? also would running a 64bit OS make any difference? Chevyboy
would either downgrading to windows xp or upgrading to windows 7 help? also would running a 64bit OS make any difference? No, the FPS differences between a well maintained Vista and 7 is negligible. 64 bit OS's are the way to go for gaming if your hardware meet the criteria, with your current setup you would see no benefit. Sorry to say it but your computer won't be running GTA4 at FPS any higher than you are currently getting. To be honest I'm surprised you are able to run it at all. "I want to play it at medium settings"... be glad you can play it at all, turn everything to minimum and you may see a few more FPS. Your computer is not designed for gaming in any aspect and GTA4 is a very demanding game. Deathlok
so my AMD Phenom x3 64bit processor would not benefit from a 64 bit OS? Edit: not sure why it doesnt say 64bit in the above readouts but its definatly a 64bit processor also with xp my specs would meet the recommended requirements for this game so i dont understand why im having so much trouble Edited January 8, 2010 by Deathlok Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/437507-i-need-help-with-fps/#findComment-1059727380 Share on other sites

That thing eats a lot of frames, put it to 0 maybe that will give a boost and will give a chance to increase texture quality. Deathlok
no i dont really need VD of 21, ive tried lowering it and and theres not really much difference maybe 1-2 fps ive just installed 32bit windows xp so im gonna try some more benchmark tests with different settings tests = still crappy fps Edited January 9, 2010 by Deathlok Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/437507-i-need-help-with-fps/#findComment-1059727410 Share on other sites

Deathlok
i am very happy that this game runs at all, im just not a defeatist! i will not give up trying to improve the performance of this game on my machine, no matter how crappy my GPU is. if i could throw money at the problem i would but that is not an option right now for me so, minor tweaks will have to do. so alot of people say that my: AMD Phenom x3 8450 64Bit Mobo: K10n78m 512MB Geforce 210 Ram: 2GB wont run this game at medium settings with half decent fps, i say bullsh*t and i wont give up! i could quite easily play the game at 800x600 and run at 30-40 fps but what is the point? looks like a POS commodore game! viometrix
Dethlok, the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different result. you fit that to a tea with the way you are talking. again there isnt a mod out there that can pull of a miracle. Ranjith
My suggestion Lower down your resolution eh ! It will increase your FPS like a dream even if it fails create a commandline.txt and -width 512 -height 384 in it ! so your game will go into 600x800 resolution ! sandbox style gaming is what i prefer rather than showing off that i play at maximum settings Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/437507-i-need-help-with-fps/#findComment-1059732344 Share on other sites
