GTA: NeXt Car System/GPS

For Christmas, my dad was given a new TomTom GPS. We tried it out on our first journey, one that involved 100km worth of road, freeways and plenty of speed cameras. It was the first time I had used one of this devices first hand and looked at it closely and in detail. It told you your speed, and beeped 300m before a speed camera and in the the majority of speed cameras, beeped while you were going through it. This got me thinking, in the next GTA, why don't we have a little monitor displaying speed like in racing games such as Project Gotham or Gran Turismo? Maybe even speed limits and speed cameras on major roads and freeways all displayed on theis monitor. The speed limit would be quite high of course, but easy to reach. You get notified when a speed camera is approaching, thus allowing you to slow down if desired. If you do speed, you get a fine depending on how fast you were going and it is displayed in the top right corner and says something like -$100. If you do not have the money to pay the fine, you get a one star wanted level. Just a random idea thrown out there and I believe if done well it can add an extra little touch of realism, bearing in mind, keeping it fun at the same time. it would be a little like the tolls in IV. I wouldn't want them too frequently though, just on, as mentioned before, on major roads or freeways. But if it is done horribly it could turn into the most annoying piece of sh*t in GTA history.

I think Rockstar has stayed away from speedometers for the purpose of how fake the speed really is in most games, including this one.

It's a pretty good idea, but I don't think it will be very popular, too realistic in "the bad way" probably.

What do you people think how the navigating will be done if the next gta is in pre 2000's? Hopefully the city will be complicated, buy the old Vice and SA squeares in the map won't just work anymore and in some missions where you have to drive somewhere in 1 minute will be impossible.

I think the speedometer itself is a good idea, but speed cameras are a no-no. I'm not sure how it is in the United States, but if speed cameras there are anything like they are in Australia, where there's practically one on every decently-long stretch of road and hide behind such bullsh*t places including trees and construction signs, and if this was to be replicated in the GTA games then it wouldn't be long before I threw my controller at the TV. Even if it was to warn you before there was a speed camera, it would be annoying to slow down just for the sake of paying $100, especially if it's on nearly every road. And the GPS voice in GTA IV was annoying anyway, I always kept it switched off.

Speedo would be cool, just to see how fast you're going, wouldn't hurt. icon14.gif

I've always wondered why there was never a speedometer in GTA games. Then again, the Infernus in GTA SA goes about the same speed as the Manana in GTA IV (about 140 mph). The vehicles in the GTA III era were too slow, and the vehicles in GTA IV are usually a bit too fast (average car should probably go up to 120 mph, not 140 mph). The speeds in GTA IV are more realistic than the GTA III era vehicles otherwise.

Just one thing, people wanting Vice City or San Andreas on the eighties may say good-bye to this feature...

Thats a big problem, because the city will be more complicated than in the original vice or SA and trying to drive somewhere without GPS will be pain.

In IV they had average car speed and other stats so you would think they knew the speed you'd be going at all times why not display it?
