GTA 4 Has encountered an error and needs to close.

Recommended Posts

Oh my god..... i have this same problem, but i had the game running for such a long time, then it started messing up after not playing it for about a few weeks, then i found out i could fix it by uninstalling ATI then uninstall the game, reinstall ATI then reinstall the game, i ran the game perfectly, quit the game, tried to run it the next day, didnt work, then just recently i did the same thing again. Didnt work. Im getting really upset at this game, anybody know how to do it? My specs are:

Microsoft XP Professional

Version 2002

Service Pack 3

AMD Athlon Dual core

Processor 4850e

2.51GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM

Graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4350, I could run the game perfectly without lowering any graphics after installing, i could run vanilla graphics without lowering, so thats good.

My DxDiag is here: http://rapidshare.com/files/327747581/DxDiag.txt

It just says GTA 4 has encountered an error and needs to close. I have uninstalled it, and im waiting for further orders, its midnight here at the moment, ill check before i go to sleep, but other then that, i probably wont answer until morning.

I have the same issue. A crash after ten to fifteen minutes, always in a car [edit: whoops, not anymore!], in both multi and singleplayer. I had some stuttering, so I switched off the clip recording and solved that issue, but this remains. There's no error code- just an application crash. I'm running Vista, quad-core, GTX260... so fairly different from the OP.

EDIT: I should mention, I'm running a Steam copy.

For me, so far pretty much anywhere outside, seemingly randomly.

EDIT: A couple of links by other guys with the same/similar issue. My doesn't look like a normal DEP shutdown, but...

This one is pretty much spot on what's happening to me, though-

I played for hours tonight, before another crash. As mentioned on the Steam thread, I think this one was memory leak related. Hard to tell for sure, but things seem better.

Hey Rockstar, how about tightening up those leaks? wink.gif

I have the same problem, sort of.

I have GtA IV Pc, none steam version. I can start Social Club, but when I press play, a black screen appears, followed by " GTA IV has stopped working ".

I have tried pretty much anything. Including, but not only ; updating video drivers. Updating social club. Updating gta iv, patch etc. Fixing Microsoft .NET something. Reinstalling and fixing DirectX.

I 've done that + alot of other things but it is not working.

I've contacted rockstar games, but they obviously haven't replied to me.

At this point I am reaaaallly close to giving up. I have been trying to install this piece of sh*t game for about a week now. Im thinking of downloading a pirate copy of the game, since I've heard they actually work better than the once you purchase. Perhaps someone can reply to this post and link a working Torrent of GTA IV for pc ? I only want to play the singleplayer mode so MP crack is not needed.

Perhaps this is illegal, but I do not really care . Since I bought the game but it does not work, I honestly dont care about this being illegal or not.

how can I turn off the shadows when I cant even start up the game? I cannot enter any options menus or anything......

From what I've been reading this is not really a unique error but wth..

What exactly does this cleanmem do? I do not want any keyloggers, virus , trojans etc....

Well, ive been trying everything and im really starting to get upset, i hope someone finds a fix, because this game was great.

I haven't ever played GTA IV! I own a legit version , bought from a f*cking game store. Now thats just f*cking sad!

Sorry, missed your question before. I'm not sure exactly (not using it myself) but I'm pretty sure you'd be safe from that kind of thing. If in doubt, grab something like Avast and check your download.

Anybody find a fix for this error? I've been told it could be another game which may mess up for display settings, and a lot of other things, but what i find funny is how every gamer/computer person thing like me, thinks that they can tell someone else to reformat and reinstall their OS at any time, i have a lot of games on here, which is a bugger to reinstall them all. But anyways, i have uninstalled quite a few games, and i haven't installed GTA 4 for so long, making an attempt, i shall give an update soon.

Well, it seems to be working, and i have no idea what i have done, It must have been another game messing around, like i should have said, i had mass effect, dragon age origins, a few other games, and also, to mention, it stopped working after i got a new lcd screen, but yet, so its working, just a note, everybody keep digging up info, so we can help some others.

Just to confirm I've had the same crash happen. A couple times it would go blackscreen like it was going to crash; but it didn't crash the game. Then java popped up and said it needed to close. I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling java to see if it fixes the problem.

I have the same issue. A crash after ten to fifteen minutes

Same thing here with Windows XP Prof. SP3. I couldn't find a solution so far. The game keeps crashing after 5-10 minutes.

If somebody has an idea how to fix it please give me a hint smile.gif.
