N8Gamez
[WIP]This will bring real flying action to IV. The Jet I am using is a SA conversion By Switchdesigns! IV FLYING TEAM MEMBERS: N8Gamez1:Concept creator/File Editor/Project Manager/QA DreamWeaver : Assistant File Editor IV FLYING TEAM CONTRIBUTING ARTISTS: KiLLerBoy_001 : Contributor of Converted/Modeled Lear Jet Plane Switch Designs : Contributor of Converted/Modeled Harrier Jet and jetpack Nixolas1 : Scripting/Coding Editor Concept: We will be using asi files and new img files to bring real flying action to IV. Artists needed: Modelers, Scripters and problem-solvers all welcome. Artists Tasks: Scripting: asi loader files for Mod. Asi for Landing gear/door opening animations. Edit the Heilcopter animations for propellers, sounds etc... Modelers: New Lear Jet, B-52, Dodo, Bi-Plane, Stunt Plane, Parachute, hovercraft, jet pack etc... Sound Editors: New jet and plane sounds... Currently I am using a Harrier Jet converted from SA for the airtug and I edited the handling and vehicles and files to include a new field for planes, edited the vehOff file so there is a cockpit view, which works well. Now I am looking for more models and asi files to raise/lower the landing gear, give moving propellers to airplanes, make doors open for Jets/planes. So here I turn to a Dev Team. (that's you) Join the Team but join to assist not disrupt the mod. Together we can make real flying in IV possible and exciting. Peace, N8. N8Gamez
The Videos above do take a moment depending on your speed and the quality isn't that great. But; as you can see Flying Jets in IV is a reality, more models are needed and I don't have zmodeler and am not that good at modeling. My intention is to make an img file and load the various planes in that. Using an asi file we can load the planes and their handling/audio etc... I am looking for assistance to make airplanes models and propellers. am also considering using the helicopter propeller anim for the plane prop. Audio is another issue to address. I put this out there to get a collective effort to make this happen. It has always been an effort of modders of GTA to make planes fly and IV is an awesome engine for it. Peace, N8. N8Gamez
Todays progress: Site updated with pics and videos!! Ripley, Feroci2 and airtug converted to Jet. handling and vehicle vehOFF lines copied to new dat/cvs files for mod. (These have a location at the airport already and can help for proper placement of the NEW Models.) Image file loaded with 4 harrier and 4 dodo SA conversions to create a total of 8 new planes and jets available, the dodo and jet models are simply place holders for now. [ Ultimately I hope to see new stunt planes, B-52's, lear, hovercraft, jetpack, Biplane, F-15, F-18 models. ] Working on loader for handling/vehicle etc for mod. Could use some converted jets from IV minigame.img to start adjusting for enterance, handling etc.. Testing: loading of models via IV Flying.img
N8Gamez
Still testing : Loading test jets in IV from IVFlying.img Next Step: If this works I will attempt to load ec_jet.wdr/wtd to see if they are accessible. ec_jetbody has an open doorway and there is also ec_jetdoor.wdr I believe ec_jet.wdr to be just a shell and may need to incorporate more parts to make this flyable. Now I got to go to my money making job. Next post will include results of above attempts. Suggestive input is appreciated, assistance as well. N8. N8Gamez
Progress report: Successful in loading jet models with handling from external files. Worked on the handling files for the: dodo, stunt plane, Lear Jet and B-52. They have a real sense of flight especially in the cockpit view. To Do List: Test ec_jetbody.wdr to see if it is accessible to game play. Progress is comming along very nicely so far. N8
nkjellman
This looks great. I have been wating for a mod like this for some time. It will be cool to use this with the base jumping mod. I have 5 questions abo/t the mod. Will it replace any vehicles or will they be added? Will the airplanes have the restricted hightlimmit that the helis have or not or will the hightlimmit be changed? Will we get to fly the airplanes that are around the airport? Will we get to fly the airplane that was seen at the end of TBOGT? And finaly will a release be soon? Anyway great progress and good luck. Hopefully We can incorporate it that will be if the mod designers decide to join or allow us to use the work. I haven't checked into that yet. It is my intention to add a new IV Flying.img file to the game so it will add them and place them at the airport and other appropriate locations. Adjusting the height limit is one of the things I am considering. [tip: For now if you use the NOS mod and point your heli/plane straight up and hit turbo you can exceed the height limit.] The NOS mos can be gotten here: NOS Mod link I still have yet to test the in game models. It is my intention to use the lear jet,{I believe this is the TOBGT one you referred to.}, and jumbo jet if at all possible. Those are the next tests I am going to attempt. Release is not scheduled yet as new models are needed. Edited December 29, 2009 by n8gamez1
N8Gamez
Progress Report: Continued effort in areas I can work on include: Improved handling for : B52 now it flies like a big jet plane. Slow to turn slow to raise/dip very much like the big planes should handle. Stunt Plane dips and dives very rapid but still controllable, handles like the stunt plane from SA. Dodo slow smooth rolls, dip and raise. wings tilt a bit back an forth like and Airplane should. F-15 Screams through the skies at mach speed yet still controllable. Needs a bit more tweaking but is great improvement from yesterdays. Issues arise with loading from external file. Need to recreate the loader asi. Put on back burner as ec_jumbo.wdr project is still in progress. Still could use a couple of propellers modeled. Hint, hint. Still seeking Audio editors to join project. N8Gamez
Hey Slayermaggot, Can you also consider converting/creating a propeller for the dodo and other planes? so we can begin working on the propeller action for the Planes? SLAYERMAGGOT
Yeah i'll do that, not a real problem to do that, i will start working on some stuff today, btw can you make a team list in the first post and add all members? I'll post updates when i got anything to show up
N8Gamez
Yeah i'll do that, not a real problem to do that, i will start working on some stuff today, btw can you make a team list in the first post and add all members? I'll post updates when i got anything to show up We haven't gotten anything concrete from any of the others who've shown interested in joining the IV Flying Team as they have their own projects going as well. But I am sure it will grow as we continue. So far the team definitely consists 3 main modders : myself, my brother and you. But fear, not the topic had just gone up days ago and I recently had to relocate it here. On another note I have a working image file loaded with 9 placeholder models that can be spawned and are flyable. Though I have new handling for the lear, dodo, stuntplane and jumbo jet I am having some glitches with the handling not all working correctly. All planes mimic the same type handling. The cockpit view is incredible when flying through the city but I need a bit more editing for the entrance of jet. I'll pm you a link to the files for the airtug as a test. SLAYERMAGGOT
@n8gamez1: Man you aren't very patient are you? Alright, just started the jumbo. I haven't worked very long on it, still need to fix much stuff. Gonna make new rims, windows, working propellers and so on. BTW is your brother on GTAForums registered too? Threepwood
As I told to n8gamez1, I am not pretty helpful in any way when it comes to IV, but there is one opportunity: http://www.flightgear.org/ resp. http://www.flightgear.org/Downloads/aircraft/ provides lots of OPEN SOURCE and GPL licensed aircraft, which can be used and converted as long as the GPL will be kept and granted for the files made out of them (any of them!). IIRC it was Blender format, most of them also provide ready made parts which can be made movable.

Hey Slayermaggot, I'm sorry if I sounded impatient. I am often told that I demand above the par, but I really don't expect it. I am just trying to make progress with the mod. I don't have any modeling skill to speak of yet so I might be unaware as to how long things may take to create/convert. Please don't feel pressed by me, I am very excited with your work and thankful for the help! By the way....... Awesome job bro! Now is this the Jumbo from IV or Conversion? When the propeller is ready and the Stunt Plane or Dodo are too then Nixolas1 will consider writing the script for the propellers using the heilcopter anims, until then he is doing other things. Nixolas1 is the SCRIPTING GOD who made the parachute asi for the TBOGT Mod. There area also a couple of anonymous people consider assisting with the audio but as I said the only concrete at this point is you, me and my bigger brother makes 3. If you know someone that may be able to help then send them an invite. But so far I think we are doing very well, considering IV Flying was just created/posted only days ago! Peace, N8 P.S. No my brother isn't a GTAFourms member. So far the real GTAForums credit of Our mod goes out to your modeling/texture skills and my integrating them with an img file and editing files for handling, vehOFF, vehicles etc.. SLAYERMAGGOT
Thanks for the compliment, but what i did already wasn't anything magical at all btw I made some progress on the jumbo, but not worth posting too, maybe you have MSN or ICQ, so please feel free to add me Gonna post ingame screens when i'm done with it. Well, i got Flightgear, it's a pretty good free flight simulator, however the model files are .ac. I don't have a clue how to open them, but i guess flightgear has its own community with tool makers and stuff. Gonna check that out tommorow. I knew it was freeware but i don't really no what is allowed on gtaforums, the rules say no convertions of other games, so i think it doesn't matter if the game is free or not. If i convert dodo, all helis and more blah blah then it would take so long, so better ask the guys which already made the dodo or the jet for permission, i'm sure if you ask nice you'll get permission And may you can learn modeling a bit, so far i'm still pretty much a beginner in zmodeler, so don't except perfect stuff, but i'll give my best
Threepwood
Well, its blender, iirc max and deep exploration can open/convert it. And since it is GPL'ed, its not against any rule on gtaforums, as long as the GPL will be kept and provided for all mods made out of it. There is not any need for permission since the GPL allows any altering, using or hosting/release by default as long as it stays free and open source and GPL. So since flightgear is a GPL Sim (not a game (!)), even those rules are not broken since it is allowed for everyone to use any model and do whatever he wants

Thanks for the assistive input. This is why I started this Topic so we can get a community effort on this project. If I remember correctly you are already familiar with these model types and can edit them for San Andreas. If so then could you convert them to dff for us? So maybe they can be further converted for IV. That would be a big help. Thanks and keep it comming. Peace, N8. Threepwood
Yeah I know I can open them, and I will roll through the GPL again to see if there isn't any hint left on converting it into a non-reversible format like wft, but if you keep and hold the obj/ac/max files, it has to be ok. Just be aware that none of the results are allowed to be "excusive", it must be GPLed instead. Conversion of the .ac format ain't that big thing, I will take a look into the models hierarchies and see what I get. If any of the modelers is interested. N8Gamez
Progress Report: Still some glitches with loading separate files for handling of planes. We may need an asi for the handling files. I finally broke down and bought Zmodeler. Wow! What a program!! I was up all night trying to learning it. TIP: I found if you open the SA model you want to convert with ZModler and fullscreen the perspective view you can take images with the print screen key as you can rotate the model to create Front, Left Top and Rear views symmetrically. Also it has the mapping of where the poloygons would go. {For the most part} Here are a couple angles of the rustler I took as an example. FRONT LEFT TOP REAR I messed around a bit and found my way some but need to play with it some more before I'll be able to put anything out. Hope these shots can be of use to someone as well as the method I explained on how to get the right shots to model. Peace, N8.
SLAYERMAGGOT
Great, but i don't get why the front/left/top/rear shots can be useful, i mean for what? To convert it to GTA IV, you need to have still some experience. Check out ZModeler Forum, there you can find tutorials and a lot useful stuff. Take a look at this and this topic, it'll help you to understand how to convert vehicles to GTA IV.
