A Zombie Based Survival Game?

Hey people, apologies if this is in the wrong section, I didn't think the Gaming Chat section was the place to put this topic as it is for actual announced/released games.

Although this wouldn't really be linked to the GTA series in any way, I believe Rockstar Games would do an amazing job at making a zombie game, using Euphoria, with an amazing storyline that would keep the player wanting to keep playing the game.

--------

My idea was that [not going into much detail] you could be a character that is a survivor in a zombie apocalypse. It could follow a similar storyline to GTA, having a character needing to do missions [such as rescue survivors etc] in order to progress. There would be a large city - perhaps separate islands to explore, obviously all surrounded by the undead. There could be several districts and parts of the city. For instance, the deeper you go, the more powerful the zombies. There could be several types, similar to Left 4 Dead, but where some are more muscular, some run - whereas some shamble etc. There could be a levelling system, where you could allocate stats such as accuracy upgrades, weapon upgrades etc. The character could enter a large number of the buildings situated around the city, where he/she could barricade, and make the building into an outpost. Looting would be implemented where you could search for hidden items such as food to heal, weapons in certain buildings, gunshops etc, you could break into cars, looking in the glove compartments for numerous items etc. You could do everything you could do in GTA, and perhaps more. Such as steal cars, helicopters, swim, change clothes [some could have stat upgrades such as +4 reload skill - how this would be realistically implemented would be up to Rockstar].

The game could feature an drop-in/out co-operative mode where different people online could join peoples games, having clans that could roam the streets together, doing everything in singleplayer, but online, similar to Crackdown.

--------

Although this game may be seen as similar to Dead Rising, you are no longer restricted to a time-limit, and you have an entire city to explore, whereas in DR, you only have a Mall.

Agree/Disagree with the idea? I'll add more detail if the topic becomes quite popular. Please add your ideas.

umm...

If it has nothing to do with GTA it's not just in the wrong section, it's kinda on the wrong site

No offense or anything

Algonquin Assassin

This would be better suited to the General Gaming forum, but I agree.

I would love to see R* make a Zombie survival game. icon14.gif

I want an open sandbox zombie game with no real storyline except you are in a massive explorable city like New York. It's filled with zombies of various nature and only a handful of survivors exist. Every day zombies from across the globe migrate closer to the city, as if coming after you specifically. You'd play as a tough ex-military type with strong survival skills and a lot of useful knowledge at his disposal. The object of the game is merely to survive and hunt zombies. To stay alive you would have to eat and gather food, and sleep so you would have to find a nice place to set up and fortify yourself a safehouse for the night. Occasionally you would wake up in the middle of the night to a pack of zombies trying to get in, and you'd fight them off. You'd always have to be on the move or if you settled in one area too long the zombies would seek you out in dangerous numbers. Melee weapons would be abundant but inefficient and used cautiously. Explosives would be hard to come by but very effective and could be set up in traps or to sabotage bridges and stuff. Guns would be valuable but not rare, and could be salvaged from gun shops, dead survivors, and abandoned military outposts. Killing zombies, completing objectives, and doing challenging type things would earn you experience, in which you could level up with. At every level you could pick one of about one hundred perks, which would each have valuable effects. One could make you move significantly faster, one could make you quieter and discreet to not attract attention, etc. There would be multiple traits you could put points in and refine as well, such as Firearms, Electronics, Stamina, Repair, Explosives, Medic, and Vehicles. If you came across another survivor you could kill them and find very rare commodities on them or confront them and talk to them, learn about them, etc. Some people would be crazy and try to kill you so you would have no other choice! barf8bd.gif

I see you put into words what I mentioned in that other thread. icon14.gif If R* did it, R* would do it right. Zombie killing in all sandbox glory. devil.gif

I think it would be A great ADD-ON ( as DLC ) the same way TLAD & TBoGT where, the same city different story

even thought the city is the same it would be completly different, cars burnig the city destroyed and revegous blood thirsty zombies around every courner, even random peds running for there lives while hords of zombies chase after, not to much of a story JUST SURVIVE - but i can see it really shine in multiplayer ( a who can last the longest game would rule, like I said as an add on or even how they did EFLC ( on a disk ) but not as a stand alone game

I dont mind a zombie game set in Liberty City. I want the slow stupid zombies instead of the L4d zombies so I can just whack and whack

General Goose

I think R* could make a really good detail. Their attention to detail and humour is great.

Pssh. Only kind of Zombie Game I'd be interested in is one based on the original Dawn of the Dead. Fly to the mall, land on the roof, go downstairs, lock the doors, kill all zombies inside, roam around your mall.

Free-roam would be good too. A large city, perhaps.

Yes that would be greate using RDR and GTA features it would really be an intresting game. Although i would like the whole city explorable and you do missions like in GTA.

Left 4 Dead is corny as hell and isn't even close to an open sandbox game. I think we all basically want the same mechanics and system of GTA just with zombies and a scary looking city

Imagine NYC 2010 a viral outbreak happens when a new medicine used to cure diseases is being tested in the city and the medicine becomes virus when tested on a cow the cow becomes mutated. The virus outbreaks through the whole of NYC and the army have helicopters rescuing people and tanks and jeeps rampage through the streets as the zombies cause havoc throughout the city. The virus keeps spreading and your task is to find your missing friend or something. How good would that be just NYC being destroyed by zombies as the player tries to survive.
