Your opinion of this game will be based off what kind of player you are. To be honest I always put story #1, and I absolutely HATED SR2, while I thoroughly enjoyed GTAIV. But the DLCs were great because of the variety for everyone. For hardcore story-nuts like me, Lost and Damned was another great show of storytelling by Rockstar from a unique perception on the same city. Ballad, on the other hand, was Rockstar tying up the loose ends, answering the call of the arguably less intellectual, but nonetheless large body of people who crave nothing but a multitude of ways to do random funny sh*t. A year ago I would've disapproved. However, I've had my share of GTA cinema, and nowadays my friends and I generally get on xbox to sit in a party mode or free mode and do funny sh*t. So, as it is, Gay Tony is exactly what I needed in this game.

The features are really the main aspect of the expansion, but they are not shallow and unimportant. My experiences have been game changing. Parachutes are not just a novelty, I always wanted them, because bailing out of flaming wreckage is a personal favorite of mine. The upgraded blackhawk and new littlebird make decent airfights a possibility. My favorite addition of all, however, are the stealthy, nonsuspecting sticky bombs. I can't even count how many times I've dropped someone off at a vehicle only to drive away and have it explode moments later.

That aside, you don't really get the same deep gameplay you got with vanilla and Lost, but hey, two times is enough for me, bring on the retarded San Andreas gameplay we all know and love deep down.

Nicely said. I feel the exact same. It isn't that I do not like the crazy features, I just don't like it when a storyline has to suffer because of them. If this had been a main game that we waited 3-4 plus years for, I might have been disappointed, but since it is simply an expansion it works.

I hope that for the next GTA game, Rockstar can implement everything people want. A deep storyline with all of the gameplay featuers people expect.

mmm chocolate

I just can't believe they got the story mixed up...I mean it's all based around the diamonds...right from the beginning...and then they f*ck it up and get their stories mixed...on the radio the bum finds them in a dumpster, but in the last mission, he finds them near some trash on the ground in meadows park.

pretty sure Rockstar just didn't care and wanted to add the bum to the final cutscene somehow...but it just didn't work well.

GTA players pay attention to the details...I hope they keep this in mind next time.

besides that mess up...everything was sick.

not quite as epic as i thought, the story line was terrible, full of plot holes (bt had potential) and Luis lacked motivation, aside from loyalty, which...yeah...(cba to put up spoilers so ill shuttup!:p)

a let down, but none the less an awesome game. combine the gameplay, (a few additions/improvements) with IV's back story and youve got the set up for an awesome-er game

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Not incredible, could have been better, and while I enjoyed the actual writing, several aspects of the storyline weren't that great. Still, good weapons, good vehicles and good stuff for the most part.

Apart from the Skylift being hard to obtain and Bahama Mammas closed after a mission it was great. I loved the action in it biggrin.gif

From what iv seen BOGT graphics look better, any truth in this?

Nope same models and same textures. Some people bitched about the grain filter in L&D but that can always be shut off. Then some say BoGT looks more colorful, but each color filter is fitting for each episode. Movies all use different types of color correction techniques add to the mood.

I dont understand why people are saying Lost and Damned was better than Ballad Of Gay Tony?? I mean the reivews seem to be in more of BOGT's favour. Also from the vids iv seen, LAD seems borring. From whaty iv seen you drive around for fkn ages and when you get there its just a small fight...

BORRING.

BOGT missions look fun as. Parachuting, an APC and a gold heli. JIZZ

That's because true GTA fans want vibe, story, great characters, & not just 5 dumb overpowered weapons, C4 and BASE-jumping out of a Little Bird. The reviewers are more objective, because they compare them to other series, while GTA fans compare them to other GTAs.

I liked GTA IV the way it was, without the nonsense of sticky bombs, APC's or overpowered weapons. If the gay story sucks and the SA retardness is all this DLC brings i dont think im missing that much.

I must admit the wepons to seem a bit over powered. but then again look at Niko's weapons! They are so borring and basic. Is there anything moderatly inresting in the weapons nicko has?

2 types of sub machine guns, 2 assult rifles, 2 sniper rifles, 2 pistols, 2 types of grenades, RPG SNORE SNORE Fkn snore. ZzZzzzZz

Then you look at BOGT weapons.

GOLD Uzi with huge rate of fire!, Explosive auto shotty, .44 pistol, Saw Light machine gun, P90.

Also the vecheals.

the most intresting thing in GTAIv is the Alhiliator and the buzzard kicks it's arse!

then theres all the new activites, clubbing, drinking *in a club*, booty calls, golf etc etc etc

You tell me whats more intresting?

Honestly, I didn't think the weapons in BOGT were anything that special.

- FNP90 can't be used as a drive by weapon, rendering it nearly useless.

- Gold Uzi isn't unlocked until the end of the game

- SAW was too inaccurate to replace the assault rifle in my loadout

- Automag was hardly any different than the Desert Eagle

- DSR-1 was useless outside of one mission

And the AA-12's only saving grace is the explosive feature. If it didn't have that, it would be worse than the Striker.

I thought the weapons Niko had were perfectly balanced while they still seemed authentic/realistic somewhat.

Explosive, automatic shotgun sigh.gif .

Sticky bombs wtf confused.gif .

GOLD uzi barf8bd.gif .

SAW, P90...

They seem either redundant or close to ridiculous, same with the buzzard and APC, the annihilator was already a bit over the top..

I think i rather play "straight" IV over the gay version, TLAD seems ok though.

yah i love the DLC, although i would have preffered to use the exclusive weapons and whatnot with niko instead of luis or johnny.

But the reason why they put those weaponds in was to make it differnt from GTAIV. If they put the same weapons in...wtf

THIS!! I don't need ridiculous bullsh*t like explosive sniper rifles (online free mode) and attack choppers that take no skill to kill someone with. IV's weapons are perfect.

Everything else was great though.

It's hard for me. I'll set out all the chapters and sum it up and see if TBOGT was as great as it's counterparts.

GTA 4: Best story. Best protagonist. Best weapon balance. Best clothing options. Best options of creativity (in terms of roleplaying and creativity, like putting on a balaclava and making believe your a terrorist). Best controls for gunplay. Most polished and in depth experience.

TLAD: Best bike controls. Your own gang. Gang wars. Biker races. Best motorcycle choice. Best crossovers in story. Uncut (I have the Australian censored version of GTA 4, so it was great to see the full blood effects and hooker scenes). New weapons.

TBOGT: Best helicopter control. Best car control. Yusuf Amir. Parachutes. APC. Best car selection. Sticky bombs. Clubs are open. More new weapons. Uncut (Like I said before).

I have a dilemma, if I had the uncut version of GTA 4, I would play GTA 4 much more than the two DLCs, but when I do play GTA 4 after playing the uncut DLCs I feel like I'm missing out. I still felt GTA 4 was better than the two DLCs though, with TLAD being the worst for me.

I was i tad bit disappointed, but overall both games where good. If anything, EFLC was worth getting for the story. Oh yeah, and TLaD was suprisingly difficult at times. I died more than in IV. So yeah, it took like 2 days to complete both games, but it was good fun smile.gif

I loved GTA IV, and TLAD, but TBOGT added a more laid back, and light hearted feeling to Liberty City. Almost like the transition from GTA III to VC.

I feel TLAD done a better job at tieing in with GTA IV, but TBOGT had better gameplay IMO. I also wouldn't compare TBOGT to Saints Row. TBOGT might've been more over the top, but it still had qualities about it. Saints Row is more about quantity over quality to me.

I voted yes, because I did like this DLC, it was fun, and I spent hours on it. Worth the money. BUT... I don't think it's great. I enjoyed TLAD, and the Original more, only because of the story lines. R* made me give a sh*t lol.gif. Luis was cool, but he did some stupid things, and went along with some crazy sh*t for no real rhyme or reason it seems, and the story was... eh.

edit: also, as much as I get a kick out of throwing sticky bombs onto moving cars, and playing roaming terrorist, or using exploding rounds in an auto shotty, I still find it enjoyable to play as Niko, and kick ass with the old weapons. Best balance of weaponry, since there aren't any obvious choices.

really enjoyed them both but would say TBOGT is more for me than TLAD as iam not into bikes and stuff but that did have some real depth to that story as opposed to TBOGT which is all glitz and glamour but still great fun.

Have to keep going back to Niko though with IV.

Also is it just me but did anyone find TBOGT and TLAD had alot more pop up than the original?

Its like evrytime you look round things just pop up out of nowhere but i never noticed any of this with the original.

I agree. I dont like the idea of Biker gangs. And i do like the look of the more 'glamorus side' of LC.

But what do you mean by 'pop up'?

Yeah sorry i mean when scenery is missing then suddenly pop ups out of nowhere.I found it when you turn round to look at something and parts are missing then suddenly appears (frame rate??)

Never noticed any of this with IV.Maybe they are pushing the console to the max (360) but this is what i found but still great though for sure.

I thought the DLC's were pretty good as they showed different aspects of Liberty City, and each brought something unique to the game.

However, I found how many times Niko, Johnny and Luis interact either directly or indirectly to be a bit stupid. It's kind of cool at first when you play the bit that you've already played as a different character and find some new stuff out, but after you've done all that and look back, it's pretty silly.

Also some parts of characters plots fall weak, Rockstar just forget to wrap them up apparently, leaving players to believe it would be developed further in a later episode which it never really did.

Overall they were both great for ~$25AUD each, and this should be the benchmark for other devlopers with DLC, but I'd like to see them treat the DLC as their own games (ala LCS/VCS) rather than small expansions.
