Seddo Posted December 10, 2009 Share Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) So in the past couple of years Gaming Chat has been host of GTAF's game of the year topic and seeing as we're getting close to the end of the year and no one has created a topic yet i'd thought i'd get the ball rolling and start a topic myself. Like the previous few years we'll start out with a discussion topic and get some category nominations going and make sure we don't miss any game titles that you think deserve to be in the running. Then the next stages will be the poll stages and finally we'll have a results topic or something. Dunno, neither of the console or PC specific games were just for exclusives in the previous 2 years if i remember correctly so i thought i'd carry on the same way. Most Anticipated Game For Next Year (Just a suggestion)Mass Effect 2 I was thinking about adding a most anticipated game section, I'll probably end up adding it if other people are in favour. I've added a DLC category and a Live Arcade category. Does the PS3 have something like Xbox's Live Arcade? Still waiting on some opinions on whether the Fallout 3 and Midnight Club GOTY editions should be classed as 2009 games...Oh and you don't have to give one game for each category, just trying to get a good list for each category and make sure we don't miss no games. Reconite Posted December 13, 2009 Share Posted December 13, 2009 (edited) RPG of the Year - Borderlands Shows how much you guys know about RPGs, that title would definitely go to Dragon Age Origins. Going to a "Bounty Board" and picking up WoW-like fetch quests does not make RPG of the year to me... not to say I didn't enjoy some of it, but it's actually a pretty bad RPG in hind-sight. The story in the game is almost non-existent, but the story is the main factor in making an RPG, imo. Dragon Age Origins was deeply enjoyable but brought nothing new to the genre. Yet again it used BioWare's same tired story. The Wardens may as well have been Spectres , the Darkspawn may as well have been geth and the Archdemon may as well have been Sovereign. That's not to mention it's completely pie eyed stat system. Not only did the game force you to pour points in to stats you didn't want, but half of them were utterly useless to boot. Take stealing, there were no benefits to the skill what so ever, and the same could be said for many. Or how about completely useless side quests? Dragon Age had those. Go there, do this, collect some of those, talk to that guy. Menial side quests which ultimately led to the player either ignoring them completely or skipping dialogue. Then there's EA drm policy which led dlc to suddenly disappear on users who didn't have the cd key installed in their registry. Or the bellow par console port which limited saves to 17mb, regardless of how far you had progressed in the game. This of course leading masses of console users suffering from corrupt saves. You'll get your chance to make your case for which ever game you desire when the appropriate threads arise. But all your belligerent attitude does here is give the people reading a f*cking cavity, besides, Fallout 3 was cracking. I'm talkin' something like 95% of Borderlands' side-quests were WoW-like fetch quests or some sh*t. At least DAO had some sort of variety, though I will not deny that it had the fetch quests too.
