BigMaexle
Hey guys, That's really annoying. I had to re-install Windows XP 3 months ago, because my hard disk crashed -.- And now GTA IV has a really bad perfomance since this. Bevor the crash, i ran the Game with middle Details and it worked find, but now GTA doesn't come over 10 fps. I can do what I want: middle Details : ~10fps Low Details: ~10 fps even the lowest Settings that are possible: ~10 fps high Setting: ~5 fps (yeah ok, thats normal ^^) You see, something doesen't work as it should do And then, after about 5 min. of playing, a ~20 sec. Lag comes an the nv4.disp.dll crashs. I can still play, but it can't be good, if the nv4.disp gonna crash. So something don't work with the graphic driver, but I re-install the Driver, nothing changed PC Details: GTA IV 1.0.0.4 newest nvidia Driver (195.62) AMD Athlon 6000+ nVidia GeForce 8600 GT 2 GB RAM Windows XP SP3 I searched for the problem, but I didn't find anything. mkey82
Have you tried some other driver version? The one you had previously installed, preferably. d00d
The nv4 crash is something to do with the NVIDIA set. You need to update your drivers for your video card, if you haven't already. Like the other guy said preferably the ones you had before, if you know what version. I'm using whatever the latest one on their site is and it worked just fine for me on XP (when I had it). When you say it crashes, is it just that process crashing or does your whole system get the blue screen? saotome88
Yeah try installing the 18x.xx drivers. Mine was stuttering like mad with the 19x.xx and I have mine running everything on low (@1280 x 720) too. e2160 @ 3.0Ghz 8600 GTS 256mb 4Gb ram WinXP SP3/Win7 Ultimate 64 Normal fps: 25-35 rain/heavy action: 20 - 28 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/435061-gta-low-fps-nv4disp-crashes/?do=findComment&comment=1059679009 Share on other sites
BigMaexle
Hm, very intresting. I remember that I used this special GTA-Special-nVidia Driver. I searched for it, downloaded, uninstall the new driver, install the 180.84 (This Special Driver) and then, it works fine. The performance is much better, thanks for that But there is still the problem with the nv4.disp. I played 10 minutes, a lag of 30 sec. came, and an error massage came again "the nv4.disp doesn't work... bla bla bla" I ignored that, after 5 minutes another lag came - but now about 2 minutes. That is not really good, man ^^ Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/435061-gta-low-fps-nv4disp-crashes/?do=findComment&comment=1059679128 Share on other sites
d00d
Sometimes the nv4_disp.dll error can be down to hardware or software. Are you getting blue screens with these errors? Have you recently made any changes to your PC hardware or recently opened it up? I've heard of allsorts causing this error - sometimes the PSU (power supply unit) isn't supplying enough power to the GPU, sometimes its a clash between the Windows video drivers and nVidia's. mkey82
You should uninstall the driver, clean and reinstall the same version, look in the FAQ for more details.
