help modeling weapons

Recommended Posts

angry.gif for some reasons, when i export a weapon from 3ds max 10 it won't appear in gta san andreas. angry.gif please im trying to do a Total conversion but i need a tutorial about how to export successful weapons in dff mad.gif

Weapons are easy. You can even add specular and reflections to make them shiny.

Anyway first lets try the M4

Extract M4.dff from GTA3.img

Extract M4.txd from GTA3.img

Open 3ds max 10

Import the dff using kams script

Import your model and move/scale/rotate untill it aligns with the M4

Once aligned, select the M4, select by vertices then click ctrl A untill all blue dots of the M4 become red. Attach the M4 to your model and click delete. Now the old M4 is gone and your model remains

If it has gunflash you can move that too untill it lines up with your barrel.

Export and your good to go.

Now for the txd

Make sure the texture names match with the image names (excluding extension) if not then model becomes white.

Make sure you dont use alpha channel.

Make sure it is DX1 compressed if not then it wont appear.

It should appear now. Good luck icon14.gif

please, it's perfectly understandable that at this point you are at your limits but be patient, is the key for a successfully modding.

First let's hear what are you doing for edit, export from 3D Studio and finally, import on your game, i have in mind some thoughts about what is causing this problem. no pictures are need at this moment for that, don't kill yourself yet with these XD

ok, i'll must wait  suicidal.gif  suicidal.gif  suicidal.gif  suicidal.gif  suicidal.gif

i didn't meant you to wait, you need to tell me what steps you followed, unless you tell me i have no other way to tell you what went wrong

ok:

1- i import the new weapon and the one that it would replace.

2- i rezise, move, rotate aligning it to the old one.

3- i attach the old weapon to the new one and i delete the old

4-i export the new weapon with the mesh name of the weapon i want replace

5- i edit the txd replaceing old textures with new one ( positive dff check)

6- i add files to img tools

7- i run the game

2- i rezise, move, rotate aligning it to the old one.

first advice, after any transformation or align operation, run the 'Reset XForm' option from your panel (assuming you are using 3D Studio Max) this will make step 3 unnecessary, also if any dummy respect it name and hierarchy, also if you are unsure whether your weapon will work with a custom name, use any of the defaults indeed, 'cougar' for example.

5- i edit the txd replaceing old textures with new one ( positive dff check)

Ok, i don't think here we have a problem but somethings about the DirectX texture compression 'DXT1 and DXT3', i'll tell you how it works, DXT1 format is for plain non transparent textures and DXT3 format is for images that require an alpha channel (transparency) which is handled as an alternative 'layer' of the image but in black and white, while white means no transparency the black tones means full transparency, middle tones like gray will give you a transparent effect but on an invisible at all effect.

6- i add files to img tools

img files need to be rebuild because they have an index with certain information, that need to be update every time you modify the file with any new model or texture, once again you can try GGMM - GTA Garage Mod Manager, a gift from the gods that you can find in GTAGarage.com, this will let you see how hypothetically your weapon would look in game, let me know if you tried all this, and also if it's possible for you to post a picture of your gun with GGMM with dummies enabled and the hierarchy window open, this if nothing works at this point, also remember that version 1.0 and 1.1 of SA are moddable, 2.0 needs special modifications but perhaps it is, steam version is not moddable

7- i run the game

Play it

H13N.H3N pretty much cleared everything up thats why all I can do now is take a closer look at your files. If you would be able to upload and send me the links via this topic or PM doesnt really matter I can take a look at your weapon then reply in this topic and let you know what went wrong or what faults I can detect with your dff or txd wink.gif
