blitsie
As everyone already heard,Pandemic is closing down and this is their swan song: The Saboteur. Plot: "The game's protagonist, (based on war hero William Grover-Williams), is an Irish man named Sean Devlin,a regular among the racing groups of Paris. Although the German Army's grip over the area is becoming tighter everyday, he ignores their presence, until one by one his friends are killed by the Nazis. This finally breaks Sean's tolerance of the German presence, and he takes up arms against them to gain his revenge. In his quest he is assisted by the French Resistance and the British Intelligence." -Wikipedia The game allows you to roam freely in Nazi-occupied Paris and even the countryside around it,you can climb buildings, collect cars, don Nazi suits as a disguise and blow up any of the 500+ Nazi buildings (called "ambient freeplay" missions)...or you could just hang out at the local strip joint and listen to the nice jazz music while staring at boobies. The places where the Nazis have full control is painted in a nice black and white while the places where the resistance is more in control is colorful. The black and white creates an awesome atmosphere. So,um,now its up to you guys, hehe, lets discuss!!! saintdave
I hadn’t heard or read much about this until recently. Even then IGN gave it a low score of 6.5 (if memory serves) but having watched some videos of the game in action I took a risk and bought the game on release (Dec 4th) and don’t regret it at all. The game has a real charm about it, the map is huge, variety of missions and things to do and a decent story as well. I cant recommend it enough. Ditto, climbing the Eiffel tower and seeing the whole city in black and white from the top was quite a sight to see. I also like the little things in the game, like the Nazis messing with the pedestrians or Sean taking a quick smoke when idle and I just love annoying the Nazis in the strip joint by standing on the stage. I also just got startled when I killed a cow with a gun,the whole thing just exploded Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434959-the-saboteur/?do=findComment&comment=1059677042 Share on other sites

Adam Jensen
This game has some pretty high system requirements. So it's either a bad port or marketing for new hardware. I like that it's a free roaming game though. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434959-the-saboteur/?do=findComment&comment=1059677818 Share on other sites

Rebel
Looks really interesting. I kind of want to buy it before Christmas but is it really worth the £40 odd quid? Or should I just save it for after Xmas and on into early Jan to buy it with Xmas money? saintdave
It depends, there is ALOT to do in if you really want to get the most out of it so if you have other games currently I would wait. If your willing to invest most of your gaming time on it I'd say get it now. I like that it's a free roaming game though. The PC version has got quite a lot of technical problems, most people with ATI cards can't even play the game. You also can't edit your graphic settings in-game and need to do it via a config.ini instead. It is,unfortunately,a bad port. (but there are worse ports than this *looks at SR2*) So far my game only froze once while it was loading,I also haven't experienced any problems with the frame-rate,guess I'm just lucky Is it just me or did you guys realized some, maybe most of game developers today stop testing their games on AMD products. Like in Dragon Age : Origins, both AMD processor and ATI got multiple flaws. On AMD processors, users got memory leak, thus making the game load like a snail, there's even not much difference between AMD Phenom X4 processor versus Intel Dual Core. Usually EA Games doing this, I wonder if they had a deal together both EA Games and Intel, quite dirty business I'd say. Quite disappointing to me since this game got many technical problems, I only got PC for gaming. Quite 'newbie' on console, I don't even know how to aim properly on PS3 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434959-the-saboteur/?do=findComment&comment=1059678953 Share on other sites

Cheat
Played this at my bro's for the whole sunday, it was amazing. The graphics in the game are great, the black and white-effect is a total "wow" when you first play the game. The gameplay itself is pretty basic, reminded me of Army Of Two, Uncharted and Red Faction: Guerrilla for car control and moving the character. Missions are overwhelmingly fun and nice, filled with great cutscene animation and fun lines. Voice acting was nice, the irishness of the character is made nicely. The city of Paris is real nice to explore etc, as said above, climbing up the Eiffel tower is nice and gives you some contraband - cash. The basic gun dealing and so on stuff happens through contacts like in GTA, and it is also all around like GTA in the 1940's - but here comes the biggest difference - ways to do missions. I remember a mission where you steal a car from a Nazi officer: I made it by climbing up the building next to the car and killed a Nazi - picked up his uniform and got to the car easy peasy - they noticed me when I got the car, haha Great game, one of the best releases this year. It appears that you can get nudity on XO and PS3 only by buying The Midnight Show DLC (I got a redeem code with the game, so got it for free) and it comes with the DVD on the PC. But seriously, my face must've been something like "O_O" when I first saw it. Did not expect that. Typhus
Is the story good? Or does it completely gloss over the horrors of Nazism just so they can include comedic Germans? "LOOK! LOOK! He speaks with an accent! Har-har-har!!!" A good story is everything. For instance, whilst playing Arkham Asylum I was genuinely disappointed that they basically had many of the villains be involved in the drug subplot. It ruined the final battle, which had been built up beautifully. War games, more than most others, have a duty to create characters you care about and tell stories that mean something. Is this one of those games? Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434959-the-saboteur/?do=findComment&comment=1059681142 Share on other sites
Old_BenKenobi
I'm very interested in playing this game. I like that it's more of a historical fantasy like INdiana Jones than a serious WWII game. Everything seems to be tinged with just enough cheese to keep it from being depressing and all about the fun. The artstyle is also fantastic and reminds me a lot of Frank Miller's Sin City. buzbegone
The high requirements for PC is killing me. It's high-end and all that but even on the lowest settings the framerate stutters and sh*t disappears. I even failed a mission when I had to tail a German guy (Kurt Dierker) and he drove over a part of the road that hadn't loaded yet and surprisingly, the colision was loaded either so naturally, he goes right through and I failed the mission and was slapped with "You lost Dierker" written across the screen Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434959-the-saboteur/?do=findComment&comment=1059681456 Share on other sites

blitsie
are the graphics and world that great and big or is it just a average port? If you have an ATi card, then your going to have serious problems getting the game to run, theres been a ton of reports from ATi users complaining about the game crashing after the intro. by the way, heres a report from the community manager at Pandemic about the upcoming patch: "As we reported last week, there are issues reported when running The Saboteur PC game with gaming rigs that combine Windows Vista, XP, or 7 and ATI Radeon 3000, 4000 and/or 5000 series graphics cards. This is an issue we are taking very seriously and have been working aggressively to better understand what is causing this issue and how best to resolve. We have a dedicated team working diligently to find a solution. Currently, we have a possible fix (in the way of a patch) that is being internally tested. Although the ATI graphics card issue is the most pressing, we have also received reports from the community of some other issues based on specific PC configurations. We are closely monitoring those issues as well and testing internally to determine if those reported issues can be reproduced. If so, we will work on finding solutions as best we can for those problems as well. We will continue to work as best we can on finding solutions and will keep you informed regarding our release plans for anything that can potentially fix issues." VCRules86
this looks really fun and it seems rather interesting with the whole freeroam France thing, a fresh take on the stale WWII genre. freak2121
I love this game, great soundtrack, good atmosphere, decent map, Assassins Creed like climbing, tanks, lots of guns and this: It also runs fairly well on a sh*tty 8500GT. blitsie
^Nice!^ I also finished the game, took me a good 20 hours to do so, I still have a ton of other side missions to do though, but its just too much fun to go and cause havoc in the restricted areas. I wish they could've delved deeper into Sean's past, people constantly mention about stuff he did in Ireland, but you never find out what really happened...
