Purpose of the swear filter?

Recommended Posts

What exactly is the purpose of the swear filter on a forum that is part of a fan site for a game series that contains large amounts of swearing and much, much more, where the swearing is much more dominate in the game than on the forum? I'm not trying to argue the point of it, I'm just querying the purpose of it.

Sale of the games is age-restricted. Access to the forums is not.

Thats a fair call, actually. Although I wouldn't mind if there was a capital and non-capital version of the filtered swear words. I don't like it when I shout F**K and it comes up as f*ck.

If the swear filter wasn't activated, Google AdSense or w/e wouldn't care about this site. Swearing violates their TOS.

There really is no valid reason to be swearing on the forums anyway, as there are better word choices you can use. Why people have to see fit to use swear words on a public forum is beyond me.?

Also, as fred said, the games are rated as 17+ and can only be purchased by those people, but anyone with internet access can access these forums. Also, if there were not censored words, then Google ads, etc. would not pay for advertising on this site and thus GTAForums might not exist.

It would be nice if everything wasn't changed to lower case, though. IT KIND OF RUINS THE f*ckING AWESOMENESS OF ALL-CAPS.

Just type the star in. LIKE F*CKING SO.
