rickus2009
Hi all, I bought a new Core 2 Quad 2.66 with 4gig of ram and with a 9500GT 1Gig graphics card. This is more than the recommended specs to play GTA IV, but still the game is very very slow. I had to reduce settings in the game to low, none, 0, etc. It's better now, but now the graphics are sh*tty. Any ideas how to improve speed of the game and to more realistic graphics? Thanks and regards. Rickus Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434202-game-slow/ Share on other sites
Lord Phidias
can you run a benchmark and show us the result? btw, your question also qualifies as "Frequently Asked Questions", so if you try to search the forum first before asking, you can find this thread on the stickers, which might gives you some answers. ManOWar2
Hi all, I bought a new Core 2 Quad 2.66 with 4gig of ram and with a 9500GT 1Gig graphics card. Rickus 9500 are not enough...no matter how many vram it have. a 9800 gtx 512 mbs would do better as it can run everything to high with texture to medium, even in 1650/1080, I was able to achieve 40 to 45 FPS. And that with only 2 gig of ram and the same processor as you. Your problem is clearly the 9500 gt, it's not fast enough. lot of VRAM does not mean it is fast. The 9500 GT has only 32 processors core... the 9800 gtx has 128 for a comparison... Mr.D
A 9600 GT would have worked and allowed you to play the game at console settings. And I'm saying this because except for the RAM, my rig would have been similar to your's had you purchased the 9600 GT. rickus2009
Thanks guys for your input - much appreciated. I don't have alot of hardware knowledge so I trusted the salesperson who said the 9500 is a good gaming card. I got it to work better than before. I reduced the resolution on XP to 800 x 600 and settings in game is now medium. It is still lagging every now and then but I think that is because of the bug for not clearing the unused memory. It is now more enjoyable. Thanks and regards Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434202-game-slow/#findComment-1059665617 Share on other sites

Its your responsibility to properly educate yourself about the product you're about to buy. 9500GT is no where a gaming card. rickus2009
@JigglyAss A stupid salesman, because he could have sold the 9600 or 9800 cards for more than the 9500. While on this topic - I also have a 8600GT card, will this be OK for GTA IV? And in general (not just for gaming) - is the 8600GT better than the 9500GT? However he offered a 9400 GT which, he said was better than the 8800 GT (due to a higher number). I felt like walking out of the store at that very instant. However, better sense prevailed and I opted for the 9600 GT and even though it cost three times more I certainly don't regret it. Also, after I got the box I started doubting whether it would work on my PC without the need of an adapter. The "salesman" said it would for sure but on seeing the specifications (as per which the card had two DVI ports) I once again sensed something amiss. It turned out I was right. I had to buy an adapter as well. Just giving my two cents (paragraphs) on my experiences with "salesmen" Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/434202-game-slow/#findComment-1059666402 Share on other sites
Strikers88
It's directly a problem with the Graphics Card (GPU).. you need to have a great graphics card such as GTX 260 or Nvidia 9600 GTX and it's go beyond.
