GTA IV exe. has encounted a problem

Ok, so i have had the PC version of GTA IV for about a month now, and when i installed it it worked fine with patch 5. But at the time the mods wouldn't work, so tried downgrading to patch 1.0.4.0, and it worked, and so did the mods, i had been using that patch for few days, then all of a sudden, when it loads the game, before i get into the game, a little window pops up saying "GTA IV exe. has encounted a problem" and i can click Debug or Close. I then recently today just re installed patch 5 (1.0.0.4) and it still works fine, but when i load the game, as said before, it till come up with the "GTA IV exe. has encounted a problem" window.

 

I don't know what to do, i got rid of the modded files and went back to the original files, but it still has the same problem, i tried cleaning the disc, keep in mind there is nothing on the disc that could effect it, but it still didn't work. I don't know what do to anymore, i was wondering if anyone here can help me on this problem, and moderators, i could not find anything on this, so please don't lock it. I just need some help, i want to play GTA IV again.

Well i tried to reinstall it, but that was before i reinstalled patch 5, so now that i have patch 5, should i reinstall the entire game, or just repair the game, which reinstalls it quicker. What do you think?

Try to repair it. If it still crashes, then try a complete uninstall/reinstall. Meaning, uninstall the game, then delete ALL game files in the Program Files directory, then reinstall.

Ok just uninstalled everything, it is reinstalling as i type, so i hope this works.

omfg, i just uninstalled everything, then reinstalled the game completely, and everytime it has finished installing, i check the main directory folder, and the modded files end up being in there, even though i deleted them, and when i was uninstalling it, it said "would you like to remove all save data?" i clicked on yes, but when i load the game after reinstalling it, i still have the save file i was last on (Clean getaway)

This is really annoying me.

I would suggest deleting the GTA IV folder in the virtual store folder in App Data but that doesn't exist for IV, only previous versions of GTA.

 

Uninstall it again, then delete the actual Program Files/Rockstar/GTA IV folder. Now go to C:\Users\Justin\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\ and delete the savegames folder.
