Unconfirmed Hints To Vice City

Recommended Posts

In this topic, we should discuss the 'hints' in GTA IV that point specifically to Vice City as the next game.

We should go further into depth with them than merely mentioning them. Some of you are really good with the police computer and all of that, this topic could become very fun.

We should not derail people's hints to vice city, and instead, look for the reason why they called it a hint and see if there is more to the hint that they perhaps have missed.

Example:

The mission with Phil Bell where he mentions that the boats are coming from Vice City - we all know that, but look at the name of the mission: Catch The Wave is the name of the mission, and it could be a hint in itself, as well as a good description for this topic. We are catching the wave here, how much can we predict about the Vice City that may be coming?

Another example:

Recently someone posted a topic about the bum going to Vice City after he finds the diamonds and starting a gun shop. We all know about that, but there is a discussion going on speculating what his role may be. I for one think we'll kill him and own his gun collection. You can read about that interesting character here: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=433955

But, I can't post this topic there, obviously. This is for all of the Vice City allusions and how deep they may actually go, in the spirit of that topic but in one topic, who says what, when, and what does it connect to - I don't know how much may be there, but Vice City is mentioned A Lot in GTA IV, and I hope to have Every mention of Vice City - no matter how small - dynamically added to this topic, and perhaps looked into further, or perhaps causing others to see something that makes something they've seen appear to be a hint to them, which they can then share, etc.

An example of no matter how small; "Fly To Vice City $300" billboard - I may think it's small and irrelevant, but others may think that it connects to the boats in "Catch The Wave", where maybe Vice connects to liberty and you can fly between them and boat between them ala loading screen on next gen console hard drives and PC, and others may even have other connections that expand that billboard asset's offering considerably - there may be more to it than any of us see, even in our own notices.

This topic is open to TLaD and BoGT as well, but I'll be looking for Vice City mentions while playing IV vanilla (at least until TLaD comes out on PC)

This topic is probably best suited for people who already expect Vice City because it's not JUST about hints to vice city, it's about how the game connects to and intertwines with Liberty City - it is just as much about that as it is about the mentions themselves.

I remember something about Rockstar "starting GTA V but not noing were to put it"

-So maybe that disproves what your saying.

Also in the ad about the new GTA, there were mountains. Vice city is an island, were there are no mountains.

I personally would love another San Andreas, which i think was better than GTA IV in many aspects.

What mountains are you talking about? It was just a photo of a penis:

If you are refering to the times interview with dan houser, which I was one of the 1st to point out in "smh's" other vice city thread, then I must admit to falling into the same trap, if you read between the lines, that statement only explains how they go about making the games, not how far into them they are. It was very well dodged by Houser.

And I totaly agree about San An.

@Super mortal human

Could these things not just be a simple nod to a previous game? Like in San An, when CJ has a shoot out in the meat factory and Ken says "This is great tommy, you and me just like the old days" and CJ says "Who the f*ck is Tommy" Maybe it's just R* saying "We know you all like Vice City, here is a token reminder of a great game"? Plus The whole GTA universe is kind off small in terms of places, there is only LC, VC, LV, LS, SF, and the yet to be re-used Carcer City. I can't remember the old days of the top down ps1 games - I didn't even know San Andreas was part of the old games untill a few years ago - so forgive me if I have missed out any. My point is that if the game is in Liberty, and someone says they will go somewhere else, they only really have 5 places to choose, so they just picked Vice City, because San An was the most recent one.

I would not mind Vice City, but it would surely have to be VC plus something, I mean, VC was like the size of Los SAntos and half of San Fiero put together. Would we really accept such a small location after the size of SA, and the "usable" size of IV Libert City?

There's no question that if Vice City was the next location that Rockstar would completely recreate it from the ground up. I'd expect it to be at least a little bigger than IV's Liberty City.

How do you guys not see the penis imagery in that ad? The volcano itself is the penis, and oh look at that, there just happen to be two round hills beneath it with, trees (coughhairscough) sticking out of them.

obviously we're taking things literary, not metaphorically. And if that was a penis then it would be mine, seeing how its SO large

That poster thing doesn't mean sh*t, it was only in the manual to imply that the location was ripped out and showing a poster that the ad was pasted over. it literally could've been any poster they just happened to pick that one. They even said they pretty much have no idea where they will make the next gta, and when they do, i hope to god it isn't vice city. When it isn't in the 80s, the place has nothing going on for it besides a beach and palm trees. The next gta should be in present London to pay homage to the first gta, and plus there is more sh*t going on there than any place in the U.S. It's got probably the biggest mixing pot of different organized crime that it's the f*cking wild west over there... and using Guy Ritchie's movies for inspiration R* could easily throw a fresh plot together with dark humor and eccentric characters. Imagine the mission cutscenes where nothing goes as planned or everyone is yelling at each other with funny British metaphors and sh*t. Priceless.

(From Snatch, in the car before the robbery)

*Vinny pulls out a SPAS-12*

Sol: What the f*ck is that?

Vinny: Hehe. This is a shotgun, Sol.

Sol: It's a f*cking anti-aircraft gun, Vincent.

Vinny: Well I wanna raise some pulses, don't I?

Sol: You'll raise Hell. Never mind pulses.

Is someone (maybe supermortalhuman? since you are pretty keen on proving your VC theory) going to look for all the Vesuvius Citrate posters and see if that is some sort of message? grop_4_that_date's idea.

I'm (like said in another post) curious, but way to lazy...

London is my first choice to.

its massive with great scenery and architecture old/new

there are a huge number of criminal organisation/gangs due to high and varying immigration and high amounts of poverty and of course the irish gypsy population

drugs, prostitution, murder/violent crime and car crime are all very high.

and english culture is begging to be satirised by rockstar again after gta london 1969

you could have football hooliganism, organised illegal boxing (snatch),

i really hope the protagonist isnt a londoner though. lukily rockstar tend to make there main characters newcomers to the city and with a massive immigration problem rockstar would be spoilt for choice nationality wise. i hope they go for a northern english football hooligan from a small lancashire mill town. this would make a great story.

i would do it, but i dont have episodes from liberty city

btw, i looked at the "old" GTA4 and i didnt see the mollis and other advertisements on the church in alberny, so maybe they have more credibility

Absolustely Not. They mentioned Vice and San so much in IV because they knew from the go that they would be making those locations and it is all an act of foresight to inter-connect the games, not just "series trivia" or "nods" wink.gif

The poster's name (Vesuvius Citrate) is a far greater hint than the imagery. So is the color of the word "Prepare" - which you have seen wink.gif

Yes, Vice City Plus. About 4 times larger, for starters. Little Bogota, etc. We've pnly played Vice Beach and a small part of this mainland:

What about direct references in GTA IV to Vice City?

As for hunting the posters: If I see them, I'll screenshot them, I think we have seen the weight of those: VC/SA (both places, found in some way in the poster, VC most prominant through text IMO and use of Mollis) but I am working through the story + cutscenes now to find mentions and also things that might "have more to it" (like that biker girl we only saw once or twice in IV, she was in the episodes - I'm looking for things that showed up, but will star in Vice City wink.gif

Hey man, thanks for joining in, but why don't you at least look at the picture I linked above you, huh? wink.gif Then you can see that Bogota is a part of Vice City (Bogota, regardless of what it is truly based on, is a part of Vice City) smile.gif
