Need help understanding how modding SA works

Recommended Posts

I read the FAQ, several times, it made no sense to me. It didn't tell me what mods would be best to choose for installing other mods, or what to do if filenames are not the same as ones shown in the FAQ (eg. replace player.img with your new player.img, but my file says flamingshirt.img!! what the hell do I overright here?!)

I also understand that people recommend CLEO 3, all I know is that it makes skin selecting much easier, but the site has bad english and i found myself going in circles to find out where to 'install CLEO 3' (I finally worked it out) so how do I add new skins/models to CLEO?

Simply put, I need a modding Pro to tell me in plain english, how to add skins/player models into San Andreas. How to add super power mods such as Super CJ and the Kamehameha into San Andreas, and lastly, which tools are nessecary to add said mods. I don't care about adding cars right now, just skins/models and super powers. I'm a huge fan of GTA and was excited when I got this PC copy, and enjoy every minute playing it...I recently wanted to mod it to further expand that experience.

I've modded Oblivion and The SIMS, they where so much easier than this! x.X suicidal.gif

welcome to the community. Well let me just explain a bit about GTA SA and modding.

These IMG files are the storage files of all models, textures, collision models and other data of the game (which shouldnt concern you yet).

So you say you want to add player mods? Which would change the main character somehow? Well the first place to look is player.img.

Now to open IMG files you need IMG tool (very basic might be good for you)

Models are stored as .dff

Textures are stored as .txd

So if you wanted to edit a model extract it from the IMG

OMG this is a lot of typing. please check tutorials forum for everything you need to know.

At least supply links to the mods you want to install. Not all mods are installed the same way. Even the same type of mods can be installed differently depending on how the authors released them.
