Just got the new issue of GameInformer, Issue 200, and it has a list of it's 200 top games. The top games aren't listed by what's good in today's standards, but by memories (nostalgia) and all that sh*t. GTA VC is at 98, GTA SA is at 64, GTA IV is at 46, and GTA III is at 4.

 

Here is the list starting from 200 going to 1. Use (Ctrl)+(F) for a quick search for a certain game. No games are abbreviated.

@Don Garcia: I believe that's because of GTA IV starting a new generation with new technology. That's for sure the very reason why GTA III is number 4. I'm sure lots of people prefer GTA VC, GTA SA, and GTA IV over GTA III.

I believe GTA IV should have gotten the 4 spot because it was truly the most revolutionary game anyone had ever seen in a long time. I mean, they were able to fit this giant, flowing and living city with a real atmosphere and realistic look all onto one little disc with an amazing movie storyline and fun aspects that everyone enjoys. The game also brought in true MP action, making it twice as more fun and thus giving it the 10/10 ratings. I could go on and on, but that's just my opinion on the subject. Take it or leave it, but it really just seems like a waste of trees to fill out a list of 200 games of your opinion.

I think you're giving IV a little more credit then it deserves because last time I checked it most def did not have aspects that everyone enjoyed as it probably got the most backlash from any major game in history with all the wild scores it was getting and crazy ass quotes like "Scorcesse level writing" and the such. Add on top alot and I mean alot of people felt let down by the final game as it took alot away and didn't add much in terms of actual series advancement. The backlash for IV went on for months on end and is still brought up every now and then 2 years later. IV was a great game no doubt but giving it a #4 spot would be reaching imo. Yes it had great graphics for a game of it's type but that whole living breathing world statement has been over used. It was acceptable when it came to III because that game truly was revolutionary. IV on the other hand honestly wasn't.

I would say the multiplayer, DLC, and just the way GTA IV was done could be seen as the new generation revolution. But I don't wanna start a GTA IV war here, that was so 2008. But either way, GTA III and IV deserve high rankings. Both were and still are amazing games we all play today and make GTA famous as a series.

 

@Sergi: Fair enough, I will agree there was some over hype, but I think most of it was worth it. If you take the time to just drive slowly, with a nice car, through Liberty City and just look at everything and get a feel for the city, you fall in love. You just really see how amazing it is, and it feels more then a game. No other game except MGS4 has done that for me, and it's an amazing experience to get from just one game!

Yeah, GTA IV and MGS4 both have amazing stories. MGS4's story is probably even better than GTA IV's story.

 

When it comes to being a revolutionary game, it's mostly Euphoria (sure beats the hell out of Havok) and the car damage (this probably more-so than Euphoria). GTA IV isn't the only game to bring ground-breaking physics to this generation though as Red Faction: Guerrilla has really amazing destructible enviroment (better than Mercenaries 2).

 

Anyways, I'm so glad to see Super Mario World on there as that was the first console (non-arcade) game I have ever played. I still have it for SNES and the memories of playing it are epic.

Although I really like IV... Vice City should be > GTA IV. Vice City was probably the best GTA and had the biggest impact on me (due to the awesome atmosphere, eighties, neon lights, flashy cars, Tommy V).

 

Though IV is a f*cking awesome title too... people who think it's overrated have a point but they can't deny how good the game is.

 

And yes this list is total bullsh*t. Call of Duty is under in the list while Call of Duty 2 is way above it??? Modern Warfare beats the first Call of Duty???

I do agree with yous that the list is basically bullsh*t. However, this list isn't made by what's best by today's standards. It's more of how impressive games are at their time periods.
