Jerry Kapowitz - Possible relevance to NeXt GTA?

Recommended Posts

Now I know this is just further speculation towards supporting the idea that the next GTA will be set in Vice City, but does anyone else have any thoughts towards this minor character who essentially saves himself from dying of poverty upon stumbling upon the diamonds that had been featured (or contested for, rather) in all IV-related releases (DLC's and IV itself) being critical in the next GTA release? Almost as if he as a character could have hinted the follow-up game at the end of the IV storyline?

To those of you who aren't aware of what I'm talking about, I'm referring to this character:

http://gta.wikia.com/Jerry_Kapowitz

An extract from his profile on GTA.wikia reads:

Jerry makes a small cameo once while hanging out in Hove Beach, he begged Vlad Glebov for some spare change, while walking with Niko to his car.

After the exchange of Gracie Ancelotti for the diamonds, the diamonds everyone was after were thrown onto a passing truck. Kapowitz had been living near the Liberty City dump and surviving off of things he salvaged from there when he stumbled upon the diamonds valued at over $2 million in Meadows Park after bumping into Luis Lopez.

Kapowitz plans to take his wealth down to Vice City where he will start a gun shop and liquor store. He is seen during the closing credits of The Ballad of Gay Tony, celebrating his fortune in the back yard of his mansion with a few people

-- Now, with his brief features as part of the IV storyline, it may seem as though he's just another character we can overlook. Though the ending reflects on his future plans via radio news, which seems to be quite a critical bit of information and may be a hint towards some form of sequel. It already sets him up as a character who is investing in two trades that could easily bring him trouble. Little is known about this character at all (making him more unlikely to most people who assume Packie McReary, Tony Prince and/or Luis Lopez may be made as influential characters or protagonists in a sequel) which may throw people off-guard entirely. It also hints majorly towards developments in Vice City even further, which out-weighs the brief mentions of both Europe and San Andreas that may appear on mere billboards, or are mentioned through pedestrians, etc.

While I don't personally believe this character will play a huge role in any sequel if it is in Vice City, one possibility could involve some form of tragedy befalling upon him as a result of his greed and over-spending. He may also run into trouble with crime groups that may hope to extort his outlets, leading to further complications. The mob may even track him down for the diamonds that are rightfully theirs, or any other group that wants them.

Any thoughts? Could it be a hint or any sort, or just something to tide in the ending of the IV storyline with that classic 'from rags to instant riches' style ending?

Oh, and to save everyone the hassle: RATMAN!

I (on an incredibly old account ages ago) mentioned this. If this happens, I thought of it first.

Oh, guess I should have searched a bit more. Not really looking for credit or anything, just thought I'd bring it up with my own view on it, or for further discussion.

Like the protagonist would own a liqour store and gun shop. confused.gif

If the next game is in Vice City I can definitely see him being a major (or minor atleast) character, but he definately won't be the playable protagonist. I can assure that.

Though I too have my doubts as to whether the protagonist will be a shop owner of any sort, it may still be possible - I mean, why not? Every other protagonist is either someone whose returned after leaving their home/family behind, or coming from somewhere else out of town on their first visit with no real assets to their name, which has become quite typical and repetitive. Also, I'm sure by this point Rockstar will more than likely be looking to add development towards the idea of property, as that was a big aspect in VC throughout the game. These stores don't necessarily have to be owned by the protagonist during the actual gameplay story either - they could simply depict some form of misfortune predating the main storyline that has led up to the main events featured in this storyline, acting as a catalyst.

More and more I'm actually starting to believe that Vice City is the next location. It's been hinted so many times in GTA IV the the DLC's, most notably in the police database where many characters who didn't appear were linked to Vice City. As for the diamonds, I don't think we've seen them for the last time, especially not if the next location is Vice City.

At the conclusion of the ending credits of TBoGT it shows a plane leaving Francis Int which suggests the neXt GTA will not b in Liberty City.

Considering at the concusion of the end credits on TLAD it shows game footage from the GTA IV mission "Three Leaf Clover" which is where TBoGT began

You've convinced me.

I know right? Why would they give so much information about this guy (in regards to him going to Vice City and opening up a gun shop/beer store). It's a little too specific and a little too suspicious!

yea man, can seen on gtanet's youtube, and that's all that scene suggest, imo, is that the next game is going to be a new place. Also, it's the exact moment the credits roll "the end" - however, that does tell us "It's over liberty city" -> which of course,

(I just think it's funny that the render glitched in the poster at that moment) -> looks like San Andreas at first glance, but they knew people would look deeper.... the shape of the tear, etc... Next it is found, the full poster, Vesuvius Citrate, it is found to be used in a church's Scientology-like stained glass.

Packie may or may not be on that plane, that plane may or may not be headed to the next location, but one thing is sure: Packie is gone, not a loose end - at least, for now. he got out safely, but the bum...

Jerry Kapowitz - unlike packie, that character IS a big loose end, and that is... look, I said I think somewhere else, those diamonds were followed all over the place. Why wouldn't they be followed to a meager bum who is blowing a huge crime syndicate's money. I bet the bum ends up dead and we get his mansion... lol... and his gunshops.

So the big question is now raised - is that the end of the diamonds? Or was that the hint to the next part of the story, given that it was the end of BoGT where the bum gets them, a big reminder of when we heard what happened to the diamonds as niko. Who gets sent after those diamonds? Because that's how you'll arrive at vice city, on a plane probably, because planes landing in a miami sky is iconic as sh*t, prior to the first game tounge.gif

I am 100% sure that we will see the diamonds in the next GTA too !

-In the beginning of IV we see the diamonds in the hand of a guy and after he put it in bowl.

-The diamonds apper in all the stories ! Luis,Niko and Johnny

-At the end of TBoGT we can see that Jerry Kapowitz found them. And he took them out of Liberty City.

-Rockstar would do a big mistake if they won't continue the story of the diamonds ! It could be the best thing that will connect Libety City with the next. And the best thing that will connect the people of Liberty City (they tried to get them so hard, I think they won't give up !)

-Also we don't know what happened to them (excluding that Jerry Kapowitz got them). They could been saled for drugs, money, buildings, cars, etc. That would be good to know in neXt.

-And, why they would give a name to a hobo if they don't want to continue his story. Why a hobo would get the diamonds ?

-Hell, he even have an Artwork !

We will find out in neXt

Just a quick thought, if he has bought a Liquor & Gun store he no longer has the diaminds, going after him would be a fruitless task as the diamonds would be gone.

I personally think they put him in there so we know what happened to the diaminds rather than left wondering what happened to them.

I was thinking that too, but then I realized that we could just steal the diamonds of the buyer.

But I don't know, I don't think it's necessary to continue the diamond story, it could just be an LC thing.
