Tanks, monster, etc appear in traffic?

I'm not sure this is the best place for the topic so please move if not. wink.gif

 

Anyway,

 

I'm working on what you might call a personal (not to be released) war mod and I have been scratching my head at trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

 

I am trying to take off all other "Civilian" cars and put on the streets Rhinos, Fbi Ranchers, Barracks, etc..

 

I tried to edit the .ide file and change all vehicles to "ignore," and then change the vehicles I want to "normal," thinking normal is a generic type of vehicle, anyway, as I'm sure many of you know probably, normal didn't work. I then thought of a vehicle that appears everywhere. a Taxi! So, I replace the type of vehicle with taxi. Walked outside and I saw some taxis (which I have as ignore) but no rhinos.

 

I then tried to place it as poor_family (or something similar) and I went to Grove Street area to make sure I'm not doing something correctly and still nothing. Though I did see some poor_family type cars that I am sure I marked "ignore"

 

 

What am I not doing correctly? How do I completely take out some cars and add others in so that they appear throughout all of SA?

Make a backup copy first, then edit cargrp.dat with a text editor. Change the vehicles listed on each line and you might be able to get the desired results - maybe. Since Rhino's, FBI Ranchers, etc. are police vehicles and not exactly sure if they will behave as expected.

 

Other files you might want to examine are popcycle.dat and pedgrp.dat, but you shouldn't need to edit them. The script specifies that a particular zone is Entertainment, Desert, Residential Average, etc, popcycle defines the distribution of the various ped groups, pedgrp defines which peds are in a group, and cargrp defines who drives which type of car.

Ok, the cargrp.dat was exactly what I need. I added a SWAT Tank (or van or whatever) in and though they are not as frequent as I would like them to be, they are there. Now sadly, it crashes when I add rhinos or Barracks. Probably because they are police cars like you mentioned. Is there a way around this or is it hard-coded into the game?
