So did some people suicide bomb some other dudes in India? I mean it's a tragedy and all, but this is an international forum where people don't really know many events outside of their own country.

Wait, what? I'm pretty sure most people I know knew about this, it was definitely one of the biggest attacks on civilians of last year.

It was pretty horrific and executed ruthlessly and coldly. There were a number of attacks around the city with grenades and assault rifles being the main weapons, I remember a first hand story of it on the news about some people in a restaurant hiding behind tipped tables while a gunman sprayed into the building, only to have him stop then start again minuets later. Some pretty scary sh*t.

It was definitely a sad day for Mumbai, and for all civilised people around the world.

Here's an article for those of you who missed it somehow

Honestly this happens so many times, I forget pretty quick. All the news reports kind of blur into one.

Yeah I'm with OnePiece on this one. It's a huge tragedy, but you hear about:

a. School shootings

b. Suicide attacks

c. Car bombs

d. Natural disasters

all the damn time, I'm not saying the even should be ignored, but it's the first that I've heard of it. Shows how much of this stuff is going on these days. Or just plain ignorance.

Oh. I remember the panic around India last year... suicidal.gif Our school started to have terrorist drills ever since. The drills are fun as f*ck because we just mess around when we are suppose to be hiding under tables. tounge.gif

I'm in America and on Thanksgiving Morning (It was the 27th by then) that was all everyone was talking about!

Yeah, I signed up exactly one year ago.

Seriously, of course the bombings are tragic. It actually shows what has becomes of the world today in a negative way, when these attacks happen every year, and when we hear about it all the time. I think that 40 years ago such an attack would make much more of an impression. And school shootings in America are almost forgotten by outsiders after a couple of days, for example that shooting in that military base a few weeks ago, the news channels don't report about that anymore.

These killers didn't show any kindness to their victims, they gunned them down like swine. And yet we still hear people defending their actions on the basis of injustices "their people" have faced.

I'm sure it came as a great consolation to the victims to know that they deserved to die because of what those poor, misunderstood terrorists were going through.

Well I find it worrying that you both seem to be so ignorant.

Basically the Mumbai attacks were significant because they represented a bolder, more swaggering brand of international terrorism. The sheer scale of the destruction by a handful of individuals showed that the terrorist cell responsible still had the power to wreak such horror despite all the sanctions, all the attention and all the firepower pitted against Global terrorism.

The fact that the attacks were planned, organised and executed from Pakistan with the apparent tacit support of the Pakistani army has also led to the possibility of conflict between India and Pakistan which could further stir up the clusterf*ck that is the Middle East. Sure, tragedy happens all over the world every day but there was something about these attacks.

They were India's 9/11, Madrid bombings or 7/7, not just another car bomb or another school shooting. They were a milestone.
