supermortalhuman
http://gta.wikia.com/Rotterdam_Tower The Rotterdam Tower was built in 1930. It dominated the skyline just after another tall skyscraper, the Zirconium Building was built a few blocks away. The Rotterdam Tower was the tallest building in the world, but was overcome by another unnamed skyscraper in another city. The tower got its name from "New Rotterdam", Liberty City's former name during the 1700s; this is a reference to "New Amsterdam", New York's name during the same period. What was the first building to be taller than the Empire State Building, and where is it located? edit: FOUND IT! SAN FRANSISCO! Wiki: New York City's Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world from 1931 to 1972. 112= Transamerica Pyramid San Francisco United States 260 m 853 ft 48 1972 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_talle...gs_in_the_world San Andreas will exist and so will Vice, this sh*t just keeps piling up! General Goose
Actually, it looked like it may also hint to Chicago (being home to the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere) or a city in Asia like Dubai or Hong Kong. And with San Andreas; I'm hoping R* does each city individually. SF and LV will be in the 70s, LS, not so much in my opinion. supermortalhuman
aye, but the first building that topped the Empire State was in 1972, and the building referred to is the one that topped it, and it was conveniently unnamed so far in the game - through a bit of research I learned that the Empire State was overcome by that building in San Fransisco. Does anyone know the context/source of the info on that wiki article? I assume it had to be from the History Channel parody History Of Liberty - does anyone have quotes of exact wording and context? jnzooger
Interesting to note about the Rotterdam tower... In the PC version (at least), you can actually see the texture over the door says "Empire State"... http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/jnz...empirestate.png (warning, big file) (Note: Just verified that the texture is not there on the EfLC version on 360.) supermortalhuman
That's a really nice find in itself! I knew they used some stock models from their artists They probably had so many of these models before they even built the city it would probably astound us to see the bank of assets they draw from and the bank that is left behind unused each time around. Tipper
San Francisco would be cool, especially given the fact that San Andreas' rendition wasn't really satasfying. But still, I don't think it is actually a hint. When they imagined the story of Rotterdam Tower, they weren't going to say that it is and always was the tallest building in the world, they had to say it was finally overcome. And as it was the only possible thing to say, I don't think it is a hint. But speaking of Rotterdam Tower, I think it has been discovered before, but inside the building, at ground floor, we see a sign saying "Rotterdam Tower" and all aroud it are written some city names (GTA cities like Vice City and Los Santos). There are four names, I can't remember which (although I'm pretty sure Vice City and Los Santos were) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/433723-rotterdamn-tower-history-gives-us-more-to-go-on/?do=findComment&comment=1059653785 Share on other sites
Algonquin Bridge
Sorry to burst your bubble there, but the Transamerica Pyramid isn't even close to being taller than the Empire State Building. Transamerica Pyramid: 260 m (853 ft) Empire State Building: 443.2 m (1,454 ft) The Empire State Building was surpassed as the tallest man-made structure in the world by the Griffin Television Tower Oklahoma (KWTV Mast) in 1954. It was surpassed as the tallest free-standing structure by the Ostankino Tower in 1967. It was surpassed as the highest Skyscraper in the world by the World Trade Center in 1973. So...next GTA could be in LC again? /joke I liked San Fierro, but it did feel a bit dead in San Andreas. So a IV-era revisit might be in order. Preferably with lots of Bullit/Dirty Harry references. General Goose
Now, we have three options: it could be pointing us to Chicago, another city (say, in Asia, or one of the clock cities), or it could mean sh*t all. CryptReaperDorian
Transamerica Pyramid: Big prick jokes are prohibited. Haha, I still remember that in GTA SA. A thing to note in GTA SA is that while it was the largest building in San Fierro, the building called "The Hole" (what is it based off anyways?) has a larger elevation than any other building in the game. I'm guessing it's on a nice sized hill for it to be so high up. It sucks that the Chicago Spire was put on hold. It looks too amazing to put on hold. It's supposed to hit 2,000 feet high compared to Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower, still prefer Sears Tower though, just renamed this year) which is 1,730 feet. The height of the Sears Tower without the antennas is 1,451 feet which is 3 feet smaller than the ENTIRE Empire State Building. So jumping off the Sears Tower in a GTA game would most likely be the equivalent to jumping off the very tip of the Rotterdam Tower (Empire State Building). Don't get started about the Burj Dubai though which is 2,684 feet. It opens on January 4, 2010. Algonquin Bridge
Or a little Easter Egg "shout-out" to the former cities. It's all speculation really. Which is what this entire board is all about. The question is; which city do you speculate is first in line for the next game, if R* decided to drop this "clue" in the Lobby? Algonquin Bridge
Ah, sorry. That's the crappiness of my Digital Camera.
