Which GTA cities have you been to?

Recommended Posts

As a lot of debate is about the next location, I thought it would be interesting to see who has been to the real life versions of the cities that have been used so far, and it could give some interesting discussions. I'm including all the cities here (apart from anywhere city as thats impossible) so London is in as well.

If a Mod would be kind enough to do a poll. Not sure how many options you can have so how about -

Just New York

Just LA

Just San Francisco

Just Las Vegas

Just Miami

Just London

2 out of the 6

3 out of 6

4 out of 6

5 out of 6

All of them

None of them

Feel free to state which ones exactly, and any other comments about them e.g. how similar they were like the GTA version (assuming you've played the game featuring that city), which ones you prefer etc.

Will be interesting to see if anyones been to all of them. The only one I'm missing is San Francisco. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

I've been to Miami and really all of that stretch north of there, which is why I love Vice City so much...it's the only one I can relate to. tounge.gif I've also been to New Jersey(Alderney)...hellish traffic around Newark.

I live in New York, and lived in Miami for like 3 months or so. Just like Smirnoff who relates to Vice City, I relate to Liberty City. The Dominicanas, Jamaicans, over-priced hotdogs, subway, chinatown, etc etc I can relate to all of that. Maybe if they do a next-gen Vice City I might relate to that too.

Believe it or not, all of them. Go to Florida once a year, Orlando, Miami, The Keys, and Jacksonville. Me and my brother go to Las Vegas every year. I went with my father to San Francisco in 2007, I also went to London in 2007. and when I visit my other brother in San Diego, we usually drive up to LA for a day. and I live across the river from new york, and live in new jersey, so obviously ive been to liberty city.

I live like a few miles from SF, I used to visit LA every other week, and my ex gf lives in LV (and I visit her a lot). My uncle lived in Miami when I visited him a while back. My dad was born and raised in NY city, and we have gone back there a few times.

Unfortunately, the closest I've gotten to London is Frankfurt, Germany.

I've been to London and we've been to the states twice, but not to those cities.

The first time I was in america and when we got to our hotel next to a highway, when I was standing and looking over the highway and looked around I not only had a culture shock, but the first thing that I thought about was how similar those highways were to San Andreas, lol.

I've been to San Francisco and Las Vegas; neither were represented well in San Andreas. In fact, they were downright appalling ph34r.gif

The cities in the game were empty, with almost no interiors (especially dumb in Venturas, as many of the best Vegas sights are indoors).

Liberty City seemed like a slightly closer portrayal, but really not by that much - Northwood (Harlem) and Bohan (The Bronx) didn't even feel like dangerous neighborhoods. Also, Chinatown had virtually no restaurants or shops (or crowds confused.gif), and Grand Central Station didn't have an interior!

And for the love of god, people, write how they were similar to the real thing! Nobody (except myself) has done this so far! The topic starter stated it very clearly as one of the main purposes of this thread confused.gif

Just New York and Miami. I went to New York on vacation in the summer of 2002 and my family flew to Miami on our way to Key West when I was a kid (1989 iirc). The only thing I remember about Miami is that my sister lost her stuffed animal on a bus and my dad and grandmother tracked it down for her (we stayed in a hotel in Miami for one night but I can't really remember anything). I used to live in Carson City, Nevada but never ventured to the not so far away Las Vegas or San Francisco (both roughly 3 hour drives I think)

Yea man, there is a lot to be done before Liberty City really feels like NYC feels on the tube, let alone in real life.

I agree that they did not nail it in Miami nor did they nail it in San Andreas - I'm speaking about maps here. Every game - including GTA III - pre-and-post "wasn't just new york" era - nailed everthing else and the maps nailed Until this Liberty was offered in contrast. Now we can all see that Liberty failed in III, and the more we play this one, the more we can see missing from it... but it is still as much a revolution as III was imo.

Now Vice City did not nail Miami. Scarface World is Yours would have nailed it if they didn't design their level the way they did (lacked freedom, but it was really good).

If you really ride around the cities in the old games you can see so many problems, especially in san andreas - it all deserves the High Def treatment, especially san andreas.

I do not know if they will do things based on decades again, though... why not? They probably should do the 80s again, 90s again in SA, to High Def THAT part of those games as well.

Just NYC/Liberty City

but remember that GTA makes the cities just parodies of real cities, so they won't be accurate. However, if you looks at maps of SF, NYC, LS, they do look similar to their counterparts' maps, pretty cool to see.

>implying SA was trying to portray them realistically

>implying what GTA IV did was unrealistic despite never going to New York

>implying New York in actuality is exactly as it appears on TV and in movies
