Vehicle handling

Recommended Posts

I really hate the way vehicles handle in the game. It's almost impossible to make a good turn. If you are driving a car and need to make a turn, you have to almost stop and then turn if you don't want to end up hitting a wall or making annoying 180 turn. Oh, and motorcycles are awful, they are no fun to drive at all! They handle horribly and if you want to get some speed up, you will probably end up in the hospital. Fall of motorcycle and you basically dead. I loved driving motorcycles in previous GTA games, but in GTA IV they became dangerous and no fun at all!

What do you guys feel about the way vehicles handle? Do you find it annoying or is it fine?

I always been a huge GTA fan but driving vehicles in GTA IV is no fun no more. Do you have any tips on how do get used to "realistic" vehicle handling? Any suggestions on making good turns and moreover, driving motorcycles.

This really frustrates me, because most of the time in GTA you are driving and when that looses it's fun factor, the whole game becomes frustrating and unappealing..

Bonnet view...... All the way bonnet view. Behind the car is a pain in the ass as there a not enough visual queues to what the handling is doing.

Stop mashing the handbrake like a retard too as thats why you are doing 180's. Once you get the tighter handling sports cars on the next island you'll find they do perfect corner slides which are easy to control on the bonnet cam by feathering the throttle. The soft sprung old bangers you can at first not so much.

*Edit* Get a 360 pad too, much easier.

im in the usa currently and everyone ive seen takes corners at 3 miles per hour try that smile.gif but seriously american cars are known for driving in a straight line. try not to break and steer at the same time if all else fails handbrake it round the corner smile.gif

The game was made to be as realistic as possible. You'll notice this in car steering, braking and acceleration. You'll find that driving cars in this game is much more realistic. The faster you are driving in real life, the larger your turning circle is. If you turn to hard at too higher speed, you'll spin out or possibly roll in older cars. This is why the turning circle (the size of the circle the car makes when you turn the wheels and perform one full rotation, returning to your original location) becomes bigger with speed, as most people are playing the game with a keyboard and keyboards are simply on/off switches, meaning you cant define how hard you turn.

The same with acceleration, in IV you accelerate slower, because not many cars are 0-100 in a few seconds, like SA and VC. Braking is much harder, but more realistic aswell. How many cars go from 100 - 0 in 20 or so metres?

You'll get used to it soon. You'll find that on the first island, the cars are crappy ones and won't handle very well.

I remember the first time I tried to turn in Roman's car in the very first mission, I crashed. Very soon, though, I mastered driving in GTA IV. Maybe it's because I used to play a lot of racing games, or maybe it's because it's really not that hard. I used to think that the physics in previous GTA games were fantastic, now I can't stand them. I just finished playing Vice City, and the driving in the game feels like its fast-forwarded and as if the cars have perfect traction.

Like everyone else has said - you'll get used to it. If you're like me, you'll even come to love it. I can drift from corner to corner in my Comet without a problem ;-)

That's called realism

Just stop whining and get used to it. If you're used to it, it actually drives better. Or go play GTA VC if you don't like IV.

I dont get it why peoples are whining about the Camera Behind Car view, well, whats so bad on it? Just remap WASD To arrow up,down, left and right, drive with the left hand and use the mouse to view around the car without problems, if you have any.

If you cant control a car with only one hand, you suck.

indeed.

So much in getting some help fro you. Instead of giving some solid tips, you attack me if I was a child. I'm probably older than most of you and I know GTA IV was aiming towards realism and I do not have a problem with that, I just want to know how to get better. If that's to hard for you to explain, then don't even bother replying.

Ok, I agree with the OP. Yes, GTA4 is more realistic than previous GTAs, but driving is less fun now. Who needs realistic? In previous GTAs I felt cool just driving around. In GTA4 I'm randomly killing pedestrians and lampposts whenever I turn a corner. Bull in a barbershop. Driving is still cool and mastering the difficulties of driving in GTA4 is part of the pleasure of this game. But it's less fun than it used to be.

You might try the realistic driving mod. Many love it. I was looking recently for a mod that reduced sliding, but I couldn't find it.

If you didn't attack the new handling, we would love to help you.

Brake before corners, gas in corners or don't gas. Your choice. But DO NOT BRAKE IN A CORNER. If you master cornering, do try using handbrake.

Try to take corners wide at the beginning and end, and stick tight to the inner corner.

1: not too tight turns (straightest possible way)

pic tomorrow. using paint + broken collar bone = fail
