REAL PERFORMANCE FIX!

Those FPS are big and load of full pissholes.

150-150FPS???

Ow come on, thats unbelieveable.

Startup the game and FRAP, record, place them on Youtube.

We all people complaining about lagg and choppy and some

lack of braincells come to here and says

"ZMOG!!11one, i haz übermega spinazz fpz

i gut mai frs orgazm wit huge fpz n gtagme

People with Quadcore 2.4GHz and GTX200 series only got around 40-50FPS.

Can you post some important info apart of your 'mister sceptical boy medal' ??

What can you know about framerates if you want fraps recorded evidence? recording with fraps reduces the framerate a lot.

Go and buy a better rig and you can see big framerates in your screen.

My performance fix?

I got me a Core i5 750 @ 2.66 GHZ, what a difference, can now max out the game and it still runs smooth, and looks great. Yup.

care to share the price and what video card you are using ?

I upgraded to C2D for GTA as a prime reason, cause CPU + motherboard for Core i5 750 @ 2.66 GHZ was

damn expensive.

Expensive? A core i 5 is only 200 bucks, and you can get a 4870 now for 120, not sure your definition of expensive is, but a high end gaming rig is hardly expensive, unless you buy from alienware.

After my upgrade, i sold my old Mobo, cpu on e-bay, upgrade was only a bit more then a console, and this PC will be good for a few years without having to worry about upgrading.

Well, this 'tweak' has done a little good job but now my game stutters. confused.gif

Kinda worked for me too wow.gif At first I tought of a placebo effect

But benchmark test showed me a 20-25 FPS improvement

A bigger percentage of my CPU was used tho

(my english does suck! I KNOW!)

Forget all the commandlines. They will just make your quality graphics and textures sh*t, or will decrease the performance of your game if you improve your Graphic quality. The only cure to better performance is (if not already) you get a Graphics Card with like 1 or 2GB of memory, faster CPU (Quad core), more RAM and a big hard drive. Only way. If your limited with 512MB of video memory, a sh*t processor and CPU, then non of these commandlines will make your game better.

Well,I do have 1GB graphics card,4 GB of RAM and fast CPU,but GTAIV still lags like sh*t,even with the lowest settings and unnecessary processes turned off.

If you have a good system and its running slow, its your system not the game, when you say fast CPU, how fast? 1 gb ram on your video card doesnt help on a slow GPU. Whats your specs? I have no issue maxing out this game, but i have a core i5.

But it's illogical that super system has slowdowns with GTA IV. I have more than 60 fps 90% of the time, but when I have slowdowns under 60 fps, there are no options that can solve it.

So, if I have under 60 fps framerate at 1920x1200 all very high, the same slowdown occurs at 1280x720 at very low.

Those are the things that origins 'bad performance' sensation for a game as GTA IV.

This fix works. Now i'm enjoying a high fra, erate at higher settings. Still need to fix the microstutter, but this is awesome, 30FPS with high all (just high, not very high expet for shadows) while before this fix i only had 20FPS with medium textures and high everything else + very high shnadows).

u disabled DEP, right?

i mean the OP was telling ppl to do the opposite (to enable DEP), but seems an issue was at least brought up.

No, the OP was telling people to add GTAIV to the DEP exclusion list. At least this is how I understood it.

OK, now I see it. Under windows 7 you basically have the option to either turn on dep for essential apps and services only or to turn on dep on for all apps, but those your specify on the list.

Just showing you people who think I meant 'turn off DEP' heres the pic of the options:

Do you understand that that option is a lot closer to "turn on" then it is to "turn off" ?

Who me?

I just read a post that said:

i think he meant turn off all except what he selected or only turn off what he selected

thats why I posted the pic biggrin.gif

So, you turned DEP on for all apps and that gave you a performance increase?

well, some of the people who genuinely tried it have posted how much it improved their games fps!.

Do you have any other performance fixes applied? I have an HD 4850 as well and an Intel Core i5, and my settings are worse than yours (1920 x 1080, medium textures, high everything else) and I get 25 FPS and you get 35. How much RAM do you have?

My specs are:

Processor:  AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad-Core Processor ~2.6GHzMemory:  Geil 4GB 1066MhzVideo Card:  XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GBOperating System:  Windows 7 Ultimate x64Motherboard:  ASRock K10N78-1394

I do not have any fixes/mods/tweaks(on my gta) whatsoever so far. I just installed GTA applied patch and that's it. If I tweak my GTA like I usually do, I'll probably get like 40-45 fps on this benchmark.

The thing is, what mostly matters on how much fps you get, is how good your windows is tweaked. My windows looks horrible, like windows 98, everything tweaked to the max to give me really good performance. On startup it eats about 700-800 MB ram, not many processes running, lots of services disabled etc.

With some test I can see the worst scenario is night time in zones with a lot of trees. Testing with graphic options, the most intensive option is shadows.

I noticed this too, with Shadow Quality off I get a consistently smooth (60+ fps) framerate with everything else maxed out at 1920x1200, as soon I use any other shadow settings there's a significant drop in performance... It doesn't matter if the shadow quality is low or very high, the framerate is the same. mercie_blink.gif Too bad the game looks rather dull without the shadows...

Ok so firstly let me apologize. I was so quick to announce how thrilled that I was that I assumed it was the OP's trick that fixed my problems. It was not.

In my haste, I forgot that I had not tried AMD Fusion before, what I had previously used was Game Booster. So I did a test, and there was relatively no difference in performance or benchmarks with DEP settings. Then I tried AMD Fusion with Online Gaming (which I had to go back and reenable wlan autoconfig in windows services because it shuts down wireless). BOOM!

I had about 27ish fps before Fusion.

After Fusion:

Statistics

Average FPS: 50.85

Duration: 37.30 sec

CPU Usage: 75%

System memory usage: 60%

Video memory usage: 67%

Graphics Settings

Video Mode: 1920 x 1200 (59 Hz)

Texture Quality: High

Texture Filter Quality: High

View Distance: 20

Detail Distance: 20

Hardware

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

Video Driver version: 8.14.10.708

Audio Adapter: Speakers (Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio)

AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor

File ID: Benchmark.cli

Next I will try AMD Overdrive a little and OC'ing the 4850 in CCC.

Thank you for the suggestion to try AMD Fusion, sorry I didn't realize it earlier!

honestly, DEP has nothing at all to do with in game performance. all it is designed to do is stop services gone awry, or suspect services running malicious code or code running in a way it shouldnt. if it did anything to the game at all it would shut it off if something went wrong, otherwise it has no tie in or effect. just google dep or data execution prevention and youll find a detailed explanation of what it is and does and realize it does no good what so ever. personally i have totally disabled it 100%, as a coder / programmer  it causes too many issues when i am test running incomplete or new code.

I'm glad that someone slapped sense into this thread before I did.

ok so basicly i had gta4 pc running at a (fairly) stable 25-30fps while on windows xp on mostly high settings but ive switched over to windows 7 now and ever since i reinstalled gta4 ive never gotten a playable fps

Here are my Specs:

Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.6GHz

Memory: 4096MB DDR2 System RAM

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4670 + 512MB DDR3 Dedicated RAM

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

Motherboard: ASUS P5Q SE/R

now if i run Gta4pc on lowest of low settings aka : 800x600 textures on low ect ect. i get an average of 15fps while outside and in a hevey firefight around 8fps -_-

But heres the thing i put all the settings on Ultra high as maxed out as possible i Still get the same fps 15outside around 8in a firefight

Now im no Wissard but theres something Wrong here .. Yes ive turnd Vsinc off as im not Completely that dull but still the same result ive tryed multible fixs/patchs/reinstalls and still nothing i used to be able to make gta4 videos back on xp and record at a desent fps with fraps going but not now it seems

so im thinking its something to do with windows7 or it trying to run like dx10 or 11 but i see no difference from when i had xp... i dunno what i did on my xp copy to get good fps but whatever i did there i want to be able to do here...

heres a quickly done video back when i had xp :

im stumped and need your help for my future machinima ideas =/ i no its a Horrible port from the console to pc but none the less i have no idea how to get a stable fps back...
